Title: Arrested Development
Post by: Phobos on Oct 31, 2004 at 06:19 AM
I knew next to nothing about this show until my cousin bought the first season on DVD and let me watch it with him. After watching the pilot, it quickly became my favorite show of the year. Funny, witty, endearing with a healthy dose of cynicism.

The show is critically acclaimed, but not really winning the ratings game.

I hope it gets a better time slot next season so it can find its audience.

Buy it now on DVD. You won't regret it.

I was able to watch around 6 episodes already. I like it, very entertaining. ;) I like Portia da Rossi here (as opposed to her Ally McBeal persona....btw, is it true she's a lesbian? Sayang naman!). I love the brother in law (Lindsey's husband) ;D ;D ;D! Such a crazy family!  That's why I probably can relate. Siguro kung Philippine setting ito, it's like Abangang Ang Susunod Na Kabanata (sort of...). Masaya na magulo. Fun! ;)

Just watched the first three episodes of the new season.

The show's funniest guy is still David Cross. This guy's schtick is consistent, from his "Mr. Show" days to this role - it's not for everyone, but if it works for you, it really works.

Although the show's brand of humor is getting just a little bit repetitive for me, I still think it's the best sitcom currently on the air.

Saw a teaser of Arrested Development in National Geographic (which is linked to Star World). Guess Star World will pick this up soon. Yey!

No time given, it was a plug of upcoming shows for all of Star World's affiliates (NGC, Star Sports, Star Mandarin, etc) and Arrested and Idol were the only two shows I was familiar with (was half asleep when the ad came out. :) )

I just saw etc's coming attractions spot awhile ago after Conan O'Brien, and was surprised to see that Arrested Development was one of their upcoming shows.

Yey! On two cable channels (Star & ETC)? Alright! :) (Parang hindi ko ma-access ahead of time, ano? LOL!)

One of these channels is bound to get the Housewives soon, unless hindi maunahan ng Studio 23!

E! reports Zach Braff (Scrubs) is joining Arrested Development. Whooweee! That's two for two for me. :D  But, this show isn't doing well with ratings, might be getting axed if it doesn't pick up. :(

Nice to see Julia Louis-Dreyfus return to the show, and it looks like it may become a recurring role.

I think it's probably the last 6 episodes for this show, though. It's never good when a show's pulled for February Sweeps, then it returns with double episodes as soon as sweeps are over. It's exactly what Fox did with Joe Millionaire 2 when it flopped - finished off the show as fast as possible during non-sweeps periods.  :(

3 episodes in, and this show is definitely on my must-watch list. It's hilarious without a laughtrack, and the "documentary" look is perfect for it, reminding me sometimes of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

replays on etc is every monday morning, 4:30am - 5:00am. horrible sked--so far i've managed to watch all 3 episodes by programming the vcr timer every friday night at 7pm.

the color tone quality on etc is very good, unlike starworld's color on our tvs here--it's rather dark and sometimes muddy. it could be just in our area, but still, i prefer to watch the show on etc than starworld.

Pati rin si George Michael --- looking more like his TV Dad (Jason Bateman)

Perfect casting. Perfect rin the guest stars for Season 2--- Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Ben Stiller, Heather Graham, Zach Braff. :) Why oh why is it not picking up with the TV audience? Maganda/nakakatawa naman humor niya.

I'm a big fan of the show. Maybe the reason it's not raking in the audience is because of the satirical/black comedy-no laugh track environment of the show. I guess it alienates the general public. Personally, I think audiences now are not as sophisticated, say, twenty or thirty years ago. They want to be spoonfed even to the point of telling them when to laugh. Had M.A.S.H. been shown today I think it would also suffer ratings-wise.

Official Press Release from FOX:

FOX DOES MORE TIME WITH "ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT," ORDERING A FULL THIRD SEASON

FOX gets ARRESTED again. The network has ordered a third full season of the Emmy Award-winning comedy series ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, it was announced today by Peter Liguori, President, Entertainment for Fox Broadcasting Company.

"ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT is one of the best comedies on television. The decision to order another season becomes easy when you consider its amazing cast, creative brilliance, critical acclaim and advertiser appeal," said Liguori. "It's my first official pick-up since taking the job, and I think it's a great way to start."

The critically acclaimed series revolves around Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman), the good son who must run the family business and continue to pick up the pieces as he keeps his offbeat family from falling apart. The comedy has featured guest appearances by numerous stars including Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Liza Minnelli, Heather Graham and Ben Stiller. Last year, the show received five Emmy Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series, Writing, Directing, Casting and Editing. Additionally, Jason Bateman won a Golden Globe for Outstanding Actor in a Leading Role - Musical or Comedy Series and the show was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards for Outstanding Musical or Comedy Series. This past season, the cast was nominated for a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. The show was also named an AFI Program of the Year and received the Critics' Choice Award for Best Comedy, among other accolades.

ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT is produced by Imagine Television and 20th Century Fox Television. Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, David Nevins and Mitch Hurwitz are executive producers.

I can't say I'm surprised. We've all known that this season was going to be the last. They've had a good run. Although I am secretly hoping for interest in the show to pick up again once it gets syndicated. Then at least new people would regret not having watched the series in the first place. Sort of like Star Trek, and Firefly.

Just to clarify: Yes, the show's been cancelled, but the first NEW episode (of the remaining eight) will be shown on December 5th. The show has been temporarily pulled off the FOX lineup for the rest of November sweeps.

So we get to watch them for about 2 more months...  :(

I just saw the final episodes of this show. All were awesome. They were a perfect way to end the show, and at the same time leaving enough room in case they get picked up by Showtime. However, I honestly  wouldn't enjoy another chapter in the lives of the Bluths. It was a good run, and now it's time to move on.

Kudos to the writers for a great show.

And it looks like, it will be offered outside the US, too. This is nice. Hehe, also saw the episode when Dan Castellaneta was guest, very funny. And of course, with a subtle "D'oh!" Sigh, i love this show. :)

Speaking at a New Yorker Festival event that reunited him and the entire cast (http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/10/02/mitchell-hurwitz-promises-an-arrested-development-movie-and-new-tv-episodes/), Arrested Development creator Michael Hurwitz announced that a 9- or 10-episode Arrested Development limited TV series will be aired first, which will lead into the movie.

Season 4 was released today! :D

Just watched the season premiere. More nostalgic than great, but still very funny. I liked the subplots more than the main dorm plot.

Will probably pause and do a Season 1-3 repeat first.

Only 3 episodes to go in the 4th season. It's one of my favorite all-time shows. The 4th season's structure reminds me of Lost. It's still very funny!

Finally finished all 15 episodes after watching on-and-off for the past couple of weeks.

Not my favourite season, but I liked it. I must admit that my expectations have been propped up unfairly high during the really long wait.

My favourite storylines were the George Michael, Tobias, and Gob ones. I wish we had a bit more Maeby, and I liked the last Buster episode. I just got super distracted with Portia de Rossi's face during the Lindsay episodes, though. Almost unrecognizable, especially when I flip back to the old episodes on Netflix.

Finished a marathon of Seasons 1-4 chronologically. If it's been a while and you don't remember details of the episodes, I'd say this is the way to go. Small plotlines, minor characters, personality quirks all get revisited.

I wasn't initially a fan of the 4th season as I was watching it, but kind of got into it by the 8th or 9th episode. On the whole, they were really still the Bluths we'd come to know, although the holder of the moral compass of the family kind of faltered. Much like Superman did in Man of Steel.

And yeah, for me the biggest distraction was Portia DeRossi's bloated face. George Michael, on the other hand, got far more angular.

I look forward to further Bluth adventures. Hopefully with a bit more of Buster next time.
