Pesteng Langgam!! >:( I was getting out my Amadeus DVD and when I opened the case, NYAH! Binahayan ng langgam!! The things were all over inside the case and on the disc surface laying eggs/hibernating. There were hundreds of minute wiggly worm things on it. I cleaned the disc throroughly with clean rag with a little bit of water to wash the gooey liquid that the damned things left behind. When I look at it there's no apparent physical damage and as far as I can see, I've already cleaned the surface thoroughly of any dirt/liquid/worm ant corpses/whatever. I try to play it and does start out OK. But halfway through the affected side, the DVD pixelates and stops playing. I forward a bit and the later chapters play.
What do you guys suggest I do, aside from mass ant massacre which I've already done?

Not to make light of the situation, komikero, but you could take this as a sign:
" Warner Home Video brings you a 2-disc Director's Cut of Amadeus
It is time to retire the old 1997 flipper DVD release of the highly inspired drama Amadeus as Warner Home Video is preparing a new Directors Cut 2-disc Special Edition for this film.
Directed by Milos Forman, Amadeus is the gripping and dramatic period epic, telling the story and celebrating the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This marvelous winner of eight Academy Awards portrays the rivalry between the genius Mozart (Tom Hulce) and the jealous court composer Antonio Salieri (F. Murray Abraham) who may have ruined Mozart's career and shortened his life.
No details or release date have been announced for this eagerly awaited DVD yet, but as always we will keep you posted on the details as they become available."

;D ;D ;D
Arrrggghhh!! Me thinks its also the black ones that are lucky!!!
Arrrrggghhh!! I hate those ants!!!
Hey komikero...better watch out for those ants...they just keep coming back....after their "home" has been devastated...they just move to another place to multiply and hibernate!! Better check your other discs!! These ants love staying in dark places.!!
I hope the dvd cleaners do help you get your disc on the go again!!
Good luck!!
;D ;D ;D

I also had that experience with my Matrix R3 disc. Pero di ko na nakita ang mga langgam, kaya di ko alam kung red o black. Washed the disc with tap water. Voilla, ok na uli, although the cardboard case edges' print was a bit damaged. ;)

Just happened lang kanina. When I removed the ants and their "stuff", nagkagasgas disk ko huhuhuhu. Anyway, I just washed it with water. Ok na siya.
Bakit kaya bnabahayan ng ants ang dvd case? The eggs were placed on the reflective layer grrrrrrrr. >:(

I think resealable plastic can prevent this problem. I also experienced ants in my Antz dvd (joke), in my Wild Wild West dvd. Before kc di naka plastic mga dvd ko...so ngayon okay na. Binabahayan sya i think kc di madalas panoorin hehehe (joke). Check nyo from time to time.

Weird. I also saw some ants in my DVD boxes. I checked for some leftover food but there were none so I just dismissed it. There were too few ants to have a colony, I thought. Now I'm going to have to open and check each and every DVD just to check.

thnx for this story, ill check mine too when i get home

hehehehe. actually, the reason why ants got in my dvd was because i jaz left my dvd lying around the house....unlike before, asa cabinet na sya ;D

Not to be the harbinger of bad tidings but there's a reason behind these 'infestations'.
Due to ROHS / Environmental compliance, most DVD manufacturers contracted by these big media outfits (the disc itself) shifted from inorganic based chemicals to organic chemicals to make the polycarbonate discs.
Alas, some of these chemicals emit a scent that is 'attractive' to ants.
I personally have experienced original DVDs being swarmed by ants, and yet they dont even bother the quiapo DVDs beside it.
Same is true for new laptops/gadgets - the ants love the keyboard membrane and soft plastic parts of remotes, camera controls, even the rubber 'feet' of Amps / AVRs / CD-DVD players / Speakers, because the softener for the rubber material is also organic based.
The only solution I know is fight nature with nature - citronella oil (a natural pesticide/repellent) sprayed and let dry on the areas where you store your stuff, or where you have placed your gears.

Nice recommendation. Im hoping that this will completely help prevent ants to go to our things
