Title: The Amazing Race 7
Post by: AshKetchum on Jan 21, 2005 at 03:01 PM
news release from The Futon Critic:

ELEVEN NEW TEAMS AWAIT THE STARTING GUN AS THE NEXT 'THE AMAZING RACE' IS ABOUT TO BEGIN

The Emmy Award-Winning "The Amazing Race" Returns For Its Seventh Edition With a Special Two-Hour Premiere, Tuesday, March 1, 9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT

The next 11 teams ready to globetrot the world are at the starting gate awaiting the official start of the seventh edition of the Emmy Award-winning THE AMAZING RACE, which begins on Tuesday, March 1 with a special two-hour premiere episode (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT).

THE AMAZING RACE 7 returns to its regular Tuesday (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) time period beginning March 8.

THE AMAZING RACE 6, which regularly wins its time period in key demographics, is currently averaging 11.27 million viewers, 4.5/11 in adults 18-49 and 5.1/11 in adults 25-54.

In September, THE AMAZING RACE was awarded the Emmy Award for Best Reality program for the second consecutive year.

Jerry Bruckheimer, Bertram van Munster (who co-created the series along with Elise Doganieri), Jonathan Littman and Hayma Screech Washington are the executive producers for Bruckheimer Films and Earthview Inc. in association with Touchstone Television and Amazing Race Productions. Amy Chacon and Evan Weinstein are the co-executive producers.

Seems like March 1 is too soon...I think it's better to let the show get some rest.

Also, the news I've been dreading about TAR7 is confirmed--that Rob Mariano and Amber Brkich from Survivor are included in this batch. I just hate these two; they're the reasons I stopped watching Survivor, and hopefully they won't ruin TAR for me. These two mediawhores winning TAR is just...unthinkable.  >:(

You beat me by 10 minutes!  ;D

Yeah, it's disgusting that Rob & Amber are in this installment. Hopefully they'll last as long as TAR's other "Reality TV Couple" did... Big Brother's Allison (and Donny) got the boot on the second episode, right?

Here's a link to the announcement: Survivors Amber & Rob to try "Amazing Race" (http://www.ew.com/ew/report/0,6115,1019163_10_0_,00.html)

darnit. I would have preferred they put in ami cusack and her gf instead. Ami did say in some interviews that she auditioned for TAR and they put her on survivor instead.

*sigh*

Whatever you think about them, they seem to have the makings of a good racing team though. They've both shown that they cope well with stressful situations and uncomfortable accomodations. And especially for Rob, they're no slouch when it comes to physical challenges either. They're also pretty effective at charming and manipulating other people, which is always useful.

I'd respect them more if they said they were just playing for fun and plan to donate any possible winnings to a charity.

That was on an isolated island, and they hardly moved around or went anywhere--they just...stayed there. Whatever, nothing is going to make me like these two, unless they kill each other during the race. I couldn't stand them on Survivor, and now they're about to hog camera time on TAR as well. I'm still hoping that their fellow racers are smarter than they are and will know who they are beforehand and form alliances against them.

I find it unfair Rob & Amber's in this race. They have an edge, people know who they are (at least reality TV freaks like us! LOL!). The rest of the contestants , no one knows anything about them yet. What if in their trip somewhere, Rob & Amber are recognized by some reality TV freak? Would they get help, would they be ignored, will they be asked for pictures? Who knows? But whatever it is, they have the edge.  They're known in Europe, Australia & Asia because Survivor AllStars aired in these continents. CBS obviously wants them on TV.  Ang daya. :P

TAR 7 -----  Philippine route AGAIN ------ anyone heard about this rumor?

My officemate went ballistic when I told her that Rob and Ambah were joining TAR 7.  I guess they don't know when to quit.  Atleast we already have a team to hate  :)

I'm in minority here, but i welcome amber and rob in  TAR7.
I hope they don't get eliminated early.
And I hope other stars from other reality shows will have a chance to
compete in TAR. This will make things more interesting.

Oh, I would gladly welcome other Reality stars on the show.

Just not these two manipulative media-whores.  :)

It would've been much, much better if the other supposed contestants were true, like Richard Hatch and Rudy Boesch as a team--Rudy himself mentioned one time that he & Richard were approached to do TAR. Now that would be a riot to watch!  ;D

Was browsing through the Sucks board, they have the whole list of Legs and Eliminations for TAR 7 already! :o Wala pa ngang announced contestants. I wonder where they get that?

If that spoiler is true, then Rob & Amber didn't make it to the next half of the leg.

LOL, you can't really trust those spoilers. For me, even when it's so tempting, I refrain from reading those threads so my viewing is spoiler-free, mas enjoy kasi to watch if you don't know the outcome.

If that spoiler is true, then Rob & Amber didn't make it to the next half of the leg.

Team profiles are up on the CBS site (http://www.cbs.com/primetime/amazing_race7/). Looks like an okay mix; we've got the first mother & son team, a male gay couple, 2 roommates who dress like each other, and a former POW. There's also a tactless jackass and a manipulative skank from another reality series, but everyone already knows that.  ;)

i don't think this will be shown on studio 23, will it?

rob and amber played well in survivor-- it was a game of survival, so they had to do all the dealing, scheming, and lying they needed to do to win (although ethan won it in africa just by being a nice guy)... they played to win. kanya-kanyang diskarte yon. i hate how they won but they played it the best they knew how.

i think rob and amber will spice up TAR7. most of the other teams might make it hard for them because as rob said to amber in the teaser "you don't think they'd let us get the million again, do you?".

sana na lang they met someone na hate na hate sila at instead na tulungan sila to get to the destinations eh niligaw sila, bwahaha!

Please note the altered time schedule for AXN. It will return to its 8PM time slot next week (March 9).

Contrary to my initial pre-race statements, I'm actually enjoying seeing Rob & Amber on the show. Not just because they're familiar faces, but I like seeing how bystanders/racers feel about them and react to them. It's a new angle that at least puts something unique in this installment.

I think the installments of the race really are too close together. It was better when we had months of anticipation. I really like the mix of players, but I just found the last half hour completely boring already. I was just waiting to see who would be eliminated.

The hot blonde roommates look like twins.

The brothers look like twins.

The boyfriends look like brothers.

The black guy looks like... Keith from "Six Feet Under."  ;D

this should only be a 1-hour episode!   >:( they made it into a 2-hour episode by making the commercials really loooooong...  >:(

i also find the last half boring.  i kept on pressing the fast forward button para matapos na.

i like the part where Gregg and Brian teased the gay couple!!  hehe   ;D

good thing the 2 blonde couples are still in the race.  eye candy for me   ;D ;D ;D

On Megan and Heidi: Can't believe people still won't check all the departure times before picking a pile/tree/or whatever it has been in the last 6 seasons. Still! And their reason was "We're already here" and "That other one might not be faster." Well check, why don't you? Thankfully for them it ended up not mattering.

On Rob and Amber: When Rob said "We've already won a million," Amber just smiled, which I took as "Watch it there boy, I won a million. We're not married yet." :)

On Debbie and Bianca: So should their description "Lifelong Friends" be put in quotation marks? Is it supposed to be a euphemism for something else? All that kissing and I love yous and babys. The even argue like a couple which is quite different from the way friends argue, but which if you ask me to explain why, I won't be able to. :)

Agree with Mr. Hankey and SPaCeMaN SPiFF. I thought the black guy looked like Keith, too. And that Lynn looked like Ross. Though from some angles, he reminds me of My Big Fat Obnoxious groom, too. Also, Debbie and Bianca remind me of Laura Dern. One of them. Sometimes both of them, hehe.

i agree with sardaukar on comment re: Debbie and Bianca......after watching the episode,  re checked the website of CBS, expecting a change in their profile, coz the 2 of them are really................hmm, how did brian (or was it greg?) put it to his brother while they where lining up at the airport, and the "lifelong friends" were like kissing and saying i love you............"HEY THOSE TWO GIRLS ARE LIKE....... ::) ::) ::)(significant pause, probably noticed that the camera are focused on them) NEVER MIND"  :-X

Dunno 'bout Rob (Boston Rob, is it?), but I absolutely loooved Amber in Survivor: Outback along with Elizabeth (doesn't she host a show aired on the Lifestyle Network?). If next week's preview is any indication, we probably won't have to wait long for the other teams' resentment towards Rob and Amber to start rearing (and reappearing) its ugly head...  ;D

Go Amber! ... only?  ;D

lynn talks like "ross the intern" too.

as for debbie and bianca... it's very rare to see "touchy feely" americans, but they exist. now, it is still completely possible that they are more than "friends". but if you ask me... they probably are just that. as for arguing like an old couple... well, friends can be like that too. just watch "the odd couple" or "grumpy old men". LOL

just finished watching "growing up gotti" on star... and holy schmitt! they all remind me of rob. (who, by the way, is exceptionally "slimy" this time... LOL.) i thought was funny how amber was off-handedly teasing rob about his weight gain... "i can't wait to get on with this race... looking forward to losing some pounds." was kinda shocked when rob said  "... WE win another million." uh, hello?? it was AMBER who won the first million... not youse, stupid. LOL.

Didn't find it odd that Debbie and Bianca are that way towards each other as my closest girl friends and myself are like that with each other (yes and now that I think about it, people wonder too! :-\ ). I just think it's a girl thing, that boys cannot understand. But...on second viewing of the episode, nabahiran na ako ng malisya ;D so I checked their profiles, checked other boards....hmmmm, napa wonder tuloy ako? ;D

Rob still sounds Italian no matter if he's speaking in another language.

I'm somehow missing Mirna and Charla. I'd like to hear words like: bike-o, basket-o, truck-o. ;D

Going slightly OT, thought TAR fans may wanna know....

TV Guide calls this an Amazing Rip-Off  :D:

Variety reports that NBC is putting together an unscripted television show that will let everyday people search for their own national treasure by cracking the NBC's version of "The Da Vinci Code."  Producers Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz will produce "Treasure Hunters" for the network. The show will be an hourlong reality program that will send multiplayer teams on a global quest to unlock the secrets of an intricate puzzle. Each clue will unlock another part of the mystery. Whichever teams puts all the clues together first will discover the location of an undisclosed treasure.

Da Vinci Code meets Amazing Race? Seems like a concept straight out of a video game too, no?

Nice bunch of racers, this time around. They all seem so pleasant. Quite opposite of last season's bunch. Even Rob. Don't know if I like that or not. But I do know that what Rob did earlier sa ticketing office, was fine, IMO...strategy eh.

Edited to add: Saw the Insider Videos at the CBS site. There was friction between the gay couple and the POW in the first episode....have to check back that video, couldn't quite get it. Anyway, sige na nga, I'll root for Rob and Amber! Haha! ;D Took two episodes to convince me, and I so didn't like them in ASS!

THE INSTIGATOR - Insider video
- Amber: Rob, you don't have to be rude. Just because they're mean, doesn't mean we have to be (inaudible)....
- Rob: (says something about being the instigator)
- Amber: I know you do (are? - forgot what she actually said, and she smiles while saying that, it wasn't cute, wasn't sweet either....but my goodness, this girl is nice!)

I'm so surprised they get along!!! Amber is probably what Rob needs. So, if anyone's expecting a Jonathan-Victoria part 2, or a Hayden-Aaron part 2, I don't think this team is it (baka yung POW/beauty contestant pa...)

Can't deny that they both are good racers, almost as good as (gakk!) Colin and Christie. Rob may be devious, but he sure knows what he's doing in the race....so far.

Phil also shared a few tidbits sa Insider Videos (may pagka chismoso pala to ;D!) --- the reason why the boys cried at the pitstop was because the one elimated and their team, hooked up the night before, shared one room at the hotel or something. They were close to that elimated team. :)

Rob and Amber seem to have a healthy relationship which surprises me a little considering how it started. Good for them. I'm actually starting to root for them.

Oh, and what's with Meredith referring to himself in the third person there at the end when they were looking for the pit stop. To Gretchen: "You guide us from here. Meredith is trying his best." Weirdo.

Sad to see Rob and Amber have taken their dirty Survivor ways onto a show like The Amazing Race. I think this is the first season where players have used bribery to shut people up... and bus doors, too. It feels dirty in what I felt was a very clean reality show.

Is this the first time we see two racers actually cry for the team they beat on the mat for second-to-last place?

The detour/road blocks were boring for me, though. Shoe shining and pushing books/going to market. Eh. Remember when they used to go racing at Le Monde and digging through mountains of poo? Now those were fun. Or when clues were cryptic and you actually had to interpret them - like "Find the giant clock with the cat" or "Search for the green star from the tallest building in the city." Those were at least a bit of a mental challenge.

That was a cranky comment. I think I'm getting reality-saturated, since I'm watching this, The Apprentice 3, The Apprentice UK, Survivor: Palau, American Idol and The Contender. I think I'll need to drop two to start enjoying the ones I'll continue watching a bit more.  ;D

Spoilers

As much as I don't like teams that quit, I equally don't like tasks that are so difficult that it's actually more advantageous to quit rather than finish the task. They should either extend the penalty to 24 hours (like with Momily--why'd they change that anyway?) or--better--stop with the eating challenges.

I mean, even assuming it tastes good--which it doesn't seem to--that's still a hell of a lot of food. Imagine 4 16oz. steaks. Although I guess the caviar would still be the worst.

I also find it funny and ironic that Rob was supposed to finish all that food when his skill in Survivor was eating so little, hehe.

When you watch this week's episode (and from here on out till Romber is eliminated, IF eliminated) just remember that Rob has a degree in Psychology. Just want to point that out....caution: more scheming ahead. :) Master manipulator, that Rob. ;D

Title: Re: The Amazing Race 7
Post by: Mr. Hankey on Mar 16, 2005 at 04:48 PM
"Eating till you puke" is definitely a newer roadblock that someone needed to challenge, since it's senseless. Rob's rebellion did make me smile, but I'm still annoyed that my favorite "purely skill" reality show has been invaded by "Survivor-like scheming."

I don't know... I think when you join The Amazing Race, unless a task is really impossible or you're unable to finish it due to injury, then you have to try your best before throwing in the towel. It's what you signed up for. Scheming and manipulation before you've really done all you can seems off for this show.

But then again, Rob's new tactics have reignited my actual interest in the show, which otherwise is so routine and repetitive already.

Double-edged sword. Soon we'll see Johnny Fairplay types on this show, as well.

i think Rob and Amber will have a hard time winning.  although Rob is a "master schemer," most of the other teams are scheming against them.

I actually found it interesting to see how Rob's Survivor techniques worked in their favor during that last episode... and surprised that a number of the other teams so easily fell for it considering how they all seem to be conspiring against them!

 ;D  ;D  ;D

But then again, Rob's new tactics have reignited my actual interest in the show, which otherwise is so routine and repetitive already.

Double-edged sword. Soon we'll see Johnny Fairplay types on this show, as well.

It has actually made the show more interesting for me as well. How far will his unorthodox TAR schemes take them? Abangan!

Johnny Fairplay on TAR...now THAT will be a hoot! (How'd his TNA wrestling stint go, BTW?)

He actually had a TNA wrestling stint???  ;D

**********

Rob and Amber annoy me more each week. I didn't like how they were gloating about being quitters. It's just annoying to lose to people like that.

Ray was exceptionally disgusting in his comments today. Ageism at its worst.

Next week looks to be the most violent episode of all time. Since PinoyDVD will be going offline for a while, you may not see an alert, so set your VCRs NOW:

Next week's installment of The Amazing Race is a TWO-HOUR special episode. So the "live" East Coast Feed on Studio 23 should be from 10AM-12NN on March 30th.

Yahoo! My favorite team is back in front!  >:D

Why don't the other teams just concentrate on the race rather than obsessing over Rob & Amber? If they're not careful, this might just lead to their early exit from the race. Despite the negative baggage the Survivor alums caryy, you can't deny they're running a good race  ;D

Teams I hope will be eliminated next:

Ray and Deana (?) - hopefully beaten out by the old folks. ;)
The boyfriends - starting to get really annoying ::)

The brothers remind me of that guy from SNL who's also in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back... forgot his name...

Anyone still rooting for Rob and Amber after the last episode? Joking that Meredith intentionally pushed his wife and refusing to give them even one cent? Not even pulling down their windows and asking if the cameraman on the ground of an overturned car was alright, then actually smiling about the accident on-camera?

Rob has actually made me see Jonathan in a new light. Jonathan's a saint beside him - even Jonathan gave the last place team $20, and that team didn't even have an accident and have to give up their bags at the end of the non-elimination round. Rob, on the other hand, even saw it fit to call the senior citizens he didn't help "con artists".

That said, after what for me has been a so-so season, I felt this week's show was the best episode of this series of all time. A lot of drama, interesting (and heartwarming) challenges, an exciting final race to the pit stop between two teams, and a satisfying elimination.

Did anyone see what happened to Deana? I couldn't figure out what happened to her to cause her face to be completely swollen/distorted at the pit stop and in the after-game interviews.

By the way, early heads-up again for Pinoy viewers: DST starts in the States this weekend, so if we follow what's been happening the previous years, the "live" satellite feed on Studio 23 starting April 6 should now be at 9:00AM on Wednesdays.

Set your timers accordingly.

Does anyone know if Studio 23 will also cover the extra episode they're airing in the States next week? If ever it's carried simultaneous with the East Coast feed, then that SHOULD be on Thursday, April 7 at 8:00AM in the Philippines.

That was a very sweet victory for the brothers, and a very bitter one for psycho Ray. Would've been nicer if the old folks had outran him  ;). Haven't had a thriller of a pit stop like that since the pool in Sri Lanka (?) last season!  ;D

I absolutely adore Gretchen and Meredith. They are so nice and so optimistic. It makes one wish he/she could find a life-long partner like them.

I wonder if the South African lady would help Rob and Amber if she had known how evil this couple had been in the race.

Funny to note that even while they insisted they shoud be among the strong teams, Ray and Deana only managed to place first by doing the fast forward. Also amusing is that they now join the ranks of TAR teams who finished first on one episode, then got the boot on the next. Good riddance! BTW I think it was a food allergy which caused the swelling on Deana's face (ala Hitch)

Despite their competitiveness (which admittedly is coming out like a mean streak), and smugness, I'm still rooting for Rob & Amber  >:D

dadag ko lang that Lynn... the older half of the gay couple reminds me so much of ross, the intern on jay leno's the tonight show.  ;)

dagdag ko din... lynn and alex reminded me so much of the gay couple played by Nathan Lane and Robin Williams from the movie The Birdcage.

can't help but to cheer rob and amber kasi nakakaasar yung ibang team na sila ang nagiging basis para mauna sa race.

i agree.  naawa ako kina brian. kita mo yung concern nila sa camera man nila.

AND... as*h*le  si ray. deserved nyang ma eliminate. masyadong nya kinakawawa si deanna.  napansin nyo ba na lagi sa roadblock si deanna ang pinagagawa nya at driver pa nya.

This was my first time watching the entire 2 hrs episode of amazing race. I was proud of the 2 oldies on how they made it...buti nalng naalis na yung mag syota na ang babae was so pessimistic all throughout. Boston n Amber(dapat naman pnagbigyan nalng nila ang iba na sumali) nanalo na nga sila sa survivor mukhang they're planning to join the entire reality show >:( The 2 brothers, despite the accident they still made it which was awesome on how they got so emotional... - Didn't Ray hit/jab Deana right in the eye, with that long stick during the detour round (although not intended)? Plus the flour (?) probably irritated that and made it worse, so she's squinting. Eye's pretty swollen too.

i dunno... i'm actually quite amused by lynn and alex's antics during the show. and stopping to check on the fallen brothers only wins points in my eyes.

and c'mon... their disgust for rob and amber simply mirror my own feelings for the "devil spawned" couple. (probably why i like them more. LOL)

at this point... i'm pretty much rooting for anyone BUT rob and amber. their offhand comments simply prove how much they truly deserve each other. (amber!! wake up!! don't allow an a-hole like rob to breed! ugh! as if freddy and kendra wasn't enough. LOL)

There goes the last team I actually wanted to win. I liked them and the two all-female teams. Now it's just "I hope to see Romber get eliminated already" for me.

With no one better to root for, I'll settle for Joyce and the Keith-lookalike for now. They seem to be nice people, though they're really pushing the race card to the fullest in Africa.

As far as I know, AXN's schedule is correct. The mid-season recap aired just this Wednesday in the States--the day after this week's episode (episode 7)--and therefore aired on a Thursday here. And that's why you caught the replay of the recap episode last night. This coming Wednesday will be episode 8.

If you want to catch a replay of episode 7, there's one at 11am tomorrow with the recap episode following right after it.

Although Ron & Kelly know its happening, they can't help but be manipulated by Rob & Amber. You have to admit, they're running a good race. And can you believe the string of good luck the survivor alums have? spoiler  Its an extended leg so we have yet to see whether their decision not to use the yield will bite them in the ass end spoiler  >:D

Even if there are equalizers, I think it's about time we lost Meredith and Gretchen already.

This "double leg" is actually a non-elimination leg without the pit stop/penalty... it's still the same number of episodes as last season, since the two-hour finale is already scheduled for May 10th in the States (11th locally). Sana may "live" AXN Broadcast ulit... less screen clutter than Studio 23's.

AUGH!!! (Totally unrelated to TAR, but I just needed to type it right now...)

For those who haven't had enough of Rob and Amber. Here's an article from CNN online

Rob-Amber wedding to be TV special
CBS devoting a two-hour show to 'Survivor' contestants

NEW YORK (AP) -- They fell in love on TV, and their nuptials will be shown on TV.

A two-hour prime-time special on the wedding of Rob Mariano and Amber Brkich, who were cast members on CBS' "Survivor All-Stars," will air May 24 (9 p.m. ET), the network announced Tuesday.

"Rob and Amber Get Married" will document the planning, the bachelor and bachelorette parties, and the wedding ceremony, which was held Saturday in the Bahamas.

Mariano proposed to Brkich on the live finale of "Survivor All-Stars" in May 2004. Since she wore a shirt proclaiming, "I (heart) Rob," the answer wasn't in much doubt.

She beat Mariano by just one vote to win the reality show's $1 million prize, but told The Associated Press afterward: "We didn't even care who was going to win. We knew we both had each other for the rest of lives."

"Boston Rob" Mariano earlier appeared on "Survivor: Marquesas." Brkich was first a castaway on "Survivor: The Australian Outback." They are now contestants on the seventh season of CBS' "The Amazing Race."

spoiler

Not using the Yield turned out to be a good decision since the extended leg had what? 2 equalizers? Hats off to Joyce who didn't think twice about getting her head shaved for the Fast Forward. IMO she actually looks better. Unfortunately for them, there were no Toyota RAV 4s waiting for them at the end of the leg. The boyfriends are finally gone!! Meredith and Gretchen are definitely defying all expectatitons.

Wow, that was a very annoying way to end your run in the race. An inept taxi (motorized pedicab?) driver? Sheesh. I really dislike the team that lost, but it's just not any fun when it comes down to something like that.

I can't believe that a team where someone was actually dumb enough to get on top of the elephant adding extra weight to it and didn't get off once realizing the stupidity of her actions didn't get eliminated.

Lynn or Alex looks like Charlotte's gay friend on Sex and the City, the one whose mortal enemy is Stanford. Or has that been mentioned already?  ;D

i know what you mean... what a shame that those 2 got eliminated through little fault on their own. i guess medyo minamalas nga sila... remember that time when their jeep broke THEN had a flat?! wow!  :-[ (on the other hand ... i actually liked this team. they are respectful of other teams, except maybe for one, and you can genuinely see that they are having some semblance of fun throughout the race. LOL.)

hmmmm... methinks amber gave rob a good slap in the hand during the pitstop. he wasn't quite as annoying this episode. i can almost hear amber now: "honeyyy! you are acting like such an a$$ on camera... again!" LOL. rob has really mellowed a little... but hey! did you guys catch that contemptuous look he gave ron & kelly when they finished the camel road block before they did! brrrrrr! gives me chills...  :-X

oh yeah... kelly screaming at the crowd to help meredith... that was really sweet. :P

I think if Romber knew how far behind the other two teams were, they would have yielded Uchenna and Joyce (bringing the weaker team into the top 3). I'm sure despite their large lead, the final leg will certainly have an equalizer or two in there.  >:D

A satisfying ending to a season where I really didn't have a team I was rooting for. As much as I didn't want Rob and Amber to win, they really played the hardest and made the show more interesting this season. Uchenna and Joyce kind of proved that "nice" can win - to make up for the racist ("They like being poor! They keep breeding and breeding!") and the hothead ("Who dropped that gate on my face???") model team winning over Kris and Jon last season.

I just wonder how badly CBS manipulated the rules to get Rob and Amber into the final three. Remember last week, when Uchenna was helping Meredith and Gretchen with the boat, Gretchen told them it was illegal to help? How come on the other task of that very same detour, Rob and Amber got ALL the help they needed from the Englishman - as they did with local "guides" in almost every other leg of the race this year? It seems pretty mandatory and unfair.

Next up is... "Family Amazing Race" time.

Whoopee.   ::)

I was also curious as to why they said it was illegal. I was thinking perhaps no help on the physical stuff but everyone got help with the elephant detour in India. Or maybe it's no help from other teams but I know in a previous season, Chip helped Brandon with a task at the pyramids. So go figure.

And actually, I still don't know why Uchenna chose to help them there. He knew they were the last 2 teams. There's nice, I think, and there's just dumb racing. Lucky for him it didn't end up biting him in the butt.

On another note, I still don't like that there's no more task in the last city. They should have either the roadblock or the detour there. At least in the previous 2 seasons they had the maze and the pizza eating. There was totally nothing here.

All in all though, a fairly good season even though I was rooting for Rob and Amber.

Exciting and editing dito sa last episode.

I think Uchenna and Joyce deserved to win because they played an honest game. They did not even take advantage of the cab driver. Nauna pa rin yung prinsipyo nila at sobrang kahanga-hanga.

Nakarma din sina Romber. Heheheh! Sinusunog na kaluluwa nila sa impyerno.

I was glad Uchenna and Joyce won. The victory was so sweet considering what they went through to achieve it. No money to start the race...went to the airport to beg...they got a blessing to be inlcuded in the same flight with Romber...and up to the very end had to beg for money just to pay the cab driver. Gotta give it to them!!!

Rob said it's okay coz he had amber....Aba dapat lang! He's damn lucky to have Amber!!!  >:(

I just wonder how badly CBS manipulated the rules to get Rob and Amber into the final three.

This was what I thought too, but for me the entire race was manipulated to get Romber into the Top 3, just to sustain viewer interest for their upcoming wedding farce. It could also be a done deal, as in a "we're letting you join but you're not supposed to win" deal between the couple and CBS.

Whatever, I'm glad they didn't win, and Rob Mariano just made history by being the ultimate Reality Show loser, having lost 3 times now--Survivor: Marquesas, All-Stars, and now TAR. That speech he gave about having Amber was a crap-out, because he doesn't have the money, Amber does.

The finale was different in the sense that you could see everyone else so happy for Uchenna & Joyce, the clapping, crying, cheering, even whispered chantings of "please, please Uchenna & Joyce" while waiting for the first team to show up at the mat, compared to a lukewarm applause when Romber arrived.

Great ending.  I lost count on how many lead changes occured in that last episode.  The organizers really made sure of that by putting a lot of equalizers in the last episode
- limbo dance made sure that they are only within an hour of each other, at most
- numerous airplane ride
- the azucar thingy

Rob and Amber were a great team, no bickering within themselves,  I just felt they should have toned down their Survivor antics, although, I must admit, it added a lot of spice on the competition.  They also exposed a major flaw in the rules, contestants should not be allowed to have "guides",  they can ask for help from locals but not extended help as to act as the navigator for the team.

Ron and Kelly could have won it except for their relationship teleserye.  I think Ron is deliberately being such an obnoxious person to Kelly to sabotage their relationship, he clearly does not want to take the relationship to another level but does not know how to go about it.  Also, did you notice that Kelly never fails to say thank you even though they are really harrassed and struggling to keep up.  Move on, Kelly, you deserve better.  Please PM your contact number...  ;D

Uchena and Joyce really deserve this win.  The editing probably added to the cliffhanger atmosphere to the end but you ahve to give them all the credit.  Imagine starting the last leg with no money.  Begging all the way to the finish line.  Having to have her head shaved.  And with all the luck in the world - the only true golfer among the last six contestants; having the pilot open up the flight; crucial mistakes from the other teams at the critical junction of the game to overcome the flat tire.  Plus, their honesty and kindness is refreshing.

Also to be noted:

Meredith and Grethchen - great competitors even at their age.
Lynn & Partner - these two guys might have been a better competitor for the first two, they just wasn't able to recover from a mistake (driver should be lynched >:D)

Couldn't wait for the next one.

Just to show how Reality TV really isn't "reality": Ron and Kelly actually had a very bad break up shortly after applying for TAR and weren't even on speaking terms. Then Ron got a call from the CBS casting director two months after the break up telling him they were chosen for the show. He asked if he could bring a military buddy instead, since he and Kelly were no longer together, but they said no way. So he apparently called her to make "an arrangement" of sorts...

Galing, 'no?

I agree. At that point I thought the spoiler is wrong. Rob and Amber will win this. They were really good to get in that plane.

Then why stop? hmmmm   >:D maybe they called the airline/pilot/etc to let U and J in.  >:D

Found some interesting comments

"I sent an e-mail too. I am upset that AA would actually allow passengers that weren't on their passenger list to board.

The safety issue is a big concern as far as I am concerned. The plane was secured for taxi. The walkway had been pulled back, the plane according to Rob and Amber on Regis this morning had started to move and AA brought it back to the gate to allow passengers that weren't on their passenger list to board.

It's just not done. I have arrived many times while the plane was still at the gate but because the door was closed to the walkway onto the plane I had to take a later flight.

No way does this happen to every day people. They didn't have a boarding pass, they weren't on standby. It's all very fishy.

We aren't talking about some airline in India or some other country where they may brake the rules if they are pretty pleased into it.

This is a major US carrier that just doesn't break safety rules. I certainly wouldn't want to be a passenger on a plane where they open the doors after they are closed and ready for taxi for take off to allow people to board that aren't even on the passenger list. It's a matter of safety as far as I am concerned.

CBS had something to do with what happened. It was a fix!"

Didnt realized that there are a lot of people asking the same thing

just had the opportunity to watch the finale today... indeed it was very exciting! I am very happy for Uchena & Joyce! They played nice all the way just like Chip & Kim from TAR5. Imagine, risking winning the million just to settle their cab fare! At one point Joyce told Uchena that they should just go in and pay later but Uchena replied "No, we got to cover this man." That is character!  ;D ;D ;D

I think people are putting too much into the AA flight. The pilot made a judgment call and allowed U & J to get on the plane... maybe his judgment was helped a bit by the fact that the 2 people who wanted to get on board were contestants of TAR... I'm pretty sure the boarding crew told him and I think it is impossible not be able to identify them as TAR contestants... TAR afterall is popular worldwide...  ;D

I hated Rob the whole race but I believe he really loves Amber... I don't remember a single time in the race that he got angry at her... In the finale after Amber jumped the bridge and had difficulty walking, Boston Rob immediately carried her piggy back! If that was Ron or some other guy like (Colin or whatshisname partner of Deanna and that rich a-hole from TAR6?) he would've just snapped at her! Amber is also really sweet when she still shook Uchena's hand on the plane while Rob sulked in his seat... Very nice tush too (when Rob was carrying her)  ;D ;D ;D

One question though and this may have been answered before... how does the camera crew get on board these flights?  ???

Fantastic race and deserving winners! I am not too excited about TAR8 though -- kids? Ughhh !!

Gay Amazing Race couple to marry in Canada

Former Amazing Race contestants Lynne Warren, 30, and Alex Ali, 22, are getting married in Ottawa, Canada.
The Amazing Race 7 boyfriends team of Alex Ali and Lynn Warren, who got eliminated in the show's broadcast of the conclusion of its Indian leg, will marry in Ottawa on June 1.

The pair said they are taking up the all-expenses-paid invitation from radio station Hot 89.9 to get married in gay-marriage-friendly Canada as they can't legally tie the knot in their home state of California. Their ceremony will be broadcast live on-air during Hot 89.9's Morning Hot Tub.

"Lynn and I have always, always thought about getting married. We've been together for five years and that's like 25 gay years," Ali, 22, told the Calgary Sun last week. "We were always planning on getting married, but in the States it's hard."

“Some people will be against it no matter where we get married, but the bottom line is we don’t care what other people think,” he says, adding his own father, who didn’t know he was gay before The Amazing Race aired, is having trouble accepting the union.

“We want to encourage other gay couples to take their futures into their own hands, but we are not getting married to be gay-right activists or for the press. We are getting married for the gifts and we are registered at Macy’s.”

Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan and actor Rosie O’Donnell are also expected to be on hand for the big day. A minister will marry the pair during an 8 am ceremony at the Ottawa Congress Centre, in front of about 20 family and friends.

Rob Mariano just made history by being the ultimate Reality Show loser, having lost 3 times now--Survivor: Marquesas, All-Stars, and now TAR.

Actually, it's his 4th loss. He also lost the All-Star Viewer's Choice (Rupert Boneham was the winner here).

Caught Rob & Amber on Leno last night. Must say that, inspite of Rob being an ass, he does love Amber. You can see it in their eyes, they genuinely love each other. Amber talked the whole time and Rob let her be. Well, good for them. :)

Not sure if I heard it right because I was already sleepy watching Leno but CBS paid for everything in the wedding pala! They really do not need the million from TAR anymore.

^^ yuck.  *vomits*

Another reason to avoid buying this set. I didn't even watch a single episode of TAR7, and I'm not about to start now. Romber are not the end all and be all of the The Amazing Race, and I'm not going to waste one peso for them--I don't want anything of those two in my home.  :P
Title: Re: The Amazing Race 7
Post by: Mr. Hankey on Dec 22, 2005 at 09:02 PM
I just finished watching the DVD set. Although Rob was an ass, editing did play a part in making him even worse:

1. The "keep the back door of the bus closed" scheme wasn't his, but he was just asked to talk to the driver on behalf of Ray since Rob knew how to speak Spanish.

2. All the time they made it appear that Rob & Amber didn't help Meredith & Gretchen when they came in last place during a non-elimination round and lost all their stuff, when in fact, Meredith was wearing Rob's clothes during that episode's interviews.

No explanation for when Rob and Amber didn't stop when they saw the brothers' overturned jeep, though. And Amber makes a disgusting comment about the incident showing that she and Rob truly are of one mind.

Rob says that in every edition of The Amazing Race, the final clue on the final leg is a riddle or has a twist.  I can't remember if this is true or not. For TAR7, Rob and Amber feel they lost since they failed to translate the name of the cigar shop given to them into Spanish - that was what he called the "twist."

Do you guys remember any other twists in the final clues in other seasons?
