Any feedback on the Infinity Primus line of speakers? I heard they're already available at Digital Dreams in SM North EDSA.

This is what I have gathered for the Primus line:
1. These entry level speakers of Infinity are quite good performers according to this review: http://www.stereophile.com/loudspeakerreviews/404infinity/ and this one http://att.com.com/Infinity_Primus_360/4505-6467_7-30589023.html
2. For their performace they are affordable, Primus 150 may cost around 9k to 10k and 160 may cost around 11k to 13k. The tower type may cost around 20k to 22k.
3. It's available at Digital Dreams in SM North Edsa Carpark. Look for Amboy, he'll gladly entertain your querries.
Honestly, have not heard them yet. But when I get the chance I'll share it.

heard the Primus 360 (model) tower type, 25,000 (made in China) taller than AE EVO3 by about 6 or 7 inches ..on a a very short audition, it sounded very pleasant, no earpiercing treble compared to the KAPPA bookshelf from the same manufacturer at 44,000 PHP (Made in denmark)...Tweeters of both model looks identical

the Primus line uses MMD (metal matrix diaphram) while the Kappa uses CMMD (Ceramic Metal Matrix Diaphragm). the primus 140 can go up to 20kHz while the Kappa 200 can go up to 27kHz - lots of detail and not earpiercing to me. the Kappa takes months to break in too.
in addition, the Primus 140 is 86dB compared to 89dB for the Kappa 200.

i auditioned primus 160 last wk, for me oks na oks mids and highs nya, ang problema lang pra sa akin is hindi sya naka bi wired. >:(

got a primus 160 last week and sounds good out of the box. mga 1 month siguro dapat mag exercise ito para medyo lumambot but overall clear highs and good soundstage. will post again for new improvements.
btw, i'm only using my luxman hybrid amp but good details. panay puri no, syempre love your own ;)

i have the primus 160 and it sounds good to me. If you are looking for good bass for a bookself speakers, then I recommend you to get this. But my plan was to use this as surrounds but it is too big, (puwedeng puwedeng kasing fronts to eh) kaya I'm thinking of selling it to get a sub for my ht. parang sayang....tsk tsk tsk. :'(

heard it... and it's just an ordinary sounding speaker. no offense. maybe you guys may want to look at their service warranty,... it's an important aspect before buying electronics etc... after sales. to tell u honestly, not impressed with the Primus Line. it's just a speaker made in china.

I auditioned the Primus 360 at Architectural Audio (they carry the Primus Line) side by side with AE Evo3 and MA B4. Personally my pick would be Primus 360, then B4 followed by Evo 3. But that's just me ;D
Don't ask me about coherence, timing or other audio jargons - I don't have the slightest idea how they are percieved and what they are to my ears. My preference was based on the sound these 3 speakers were reproducing using a few musical pieces that I threw at them during the audition ;)

Heard the Infinity Primus 152 driven by an HK receiver at a JBL store in High Street. Excellent mids. Great musical speakers, but leaning towards the bright side.

he means the tweeters are a little bit louder than the mids, I'd assume it's not ear shattering as he did not descdribe it as "harsh." tried my NAD 304 on Infinity FS speakers before, tweeters weren't a problem if you sit farther away from the speakers. bass response could be a problem though, the "hard" bass naturally loses impactbut the decline in volume was sharper and didn't help the imaging. then again, the 304 isn't exactly known for pounding midbass, although it does reach well into sub-range bass.
what amp are you planning to use? make sure yours has a beefy power supply, the 304 had a lot of reserve but it couldn't keep up with the 3-way FS speakers. curiously enough it did better with my lower sensitivity diamond 8.4's, and that's in my condo with no acoustic treatment.most likely it was the tweeter to mid balance.

Great speakers! the primus 362 provides the discerning listener with all the inherent Primus 362 build quality, superb dynamics, extended bass punch, coherency and transparency coupled with precise stereo imaging.

Bass department was also lacking in the Wharfes, which I did not expect because they were utilizing 8" drivers. Will see how the Primus series compares tomorrow.

sure they use 8" drivers, but you also have to consider the amp, mainly it's freq response and, given the multiple-driver speaker and your mention of a center channel, it needs more current (Im assuming it's an A/V receiver).

Confirming with sir Jeff of Theaterworks if the speakers were set to "small" instead of "large". The salesperson told me it was already set to "large" so I took his word for it but he might be wrong. I didn't see the remote of the receiver so I didn't tinker with the receiver settings.
EDIT: Another thing I remembered, the subwoofer setting may have been set to "subwoofer" instead of "main". Will have to audition again when I get the time to.

my 2cents about Primus360 . . .
Likes:
1. Best price for performance towers for my taste & budget.
2. Strength of these FS lies on the midrange & sub. They produce detailed and realistic vocals.
3. Fast & heavy bass punch
4. Highly efficient . . . easy to drive at 93db
Letdowns:
1. Can't do bi-amping.

Auditioned the Primus PC350 + P362s today via avshop, very accomodating person. I really liked how the highs sounded, it was forward and sharp (which may not be to some people's liking). Bass/mid-bass was present and packed quite a punch.

Really? These are really good speakers. Especially the pc350 and 362 combo. More people should check them out Great value for money. I used to have this set up at home then I upgraded to the Jbl studio L. :)

I heard the P362 set yesterday hooked up to a big HK receiver (don't know what model), the pair created a broad stage with a very lively presentation. :) They were good with jazz, and awesome with rock. :D

the 362 are very good speakers. great value for money. great for audio and movies. you should hear the a full set of infinity primus. primus 362 for fronts, primus pc350 for center and primus 152 for surrounds. ang ganda. add the primus ps212 sub and you'll rock the house down. :)

I know sight also has a Primus setup . . . yep there are lots of better sounding speakers out there but might cost twice as much. Pwedeng pwede na ito for 50/50 HT and audio listening, mura pa.

yup im satisfied with the primus naman, soon nalang if ever naka ipon again for the 2nd build ng HT setup ulit will try to audition those b&w's again. since first time ko palang mag setup primus is enough na ;)

not yet will still be using my old polk m series surrounds and polk audio psw100 aswell, according to avshop (marc) ok na daw yun, kapag nabitin soon then upgrade the sub, but for the rears thats ok na daw since its just for the effects daw. the subs baka after a couple of months, btw i will be using primus pala with the HK 255 im satisfied with the sounds kanina sa audition :)

We're in a similar situation. In my case I'm still using my JBL SCS260 subs and surrounds with the 362/C350. Ayos pa nanam. Wala pa kasing budget nag-upgrade ng sub ;).

Was browsing the new Infinity Primus lineup for the region and I am getting the impression that Primus is moving down market. The excellent C350 center and P162 bookshelf was removed. On the subwoofer side only an 8" sub remains with the 10" and 12" subs also removed.

I think the Philippines region of the website showcases the previous generation (360, 250, 150, C25) and not the current ones (362 162 152 142 250 350)
And according to avshop the P162 wasn't really marketed here. Up to P152 only.

No that's not the case. I visited the site before when I was shopping for my floorstanders and center. The P362, C350 and P162 was was there.
What's on the website now is Primus II 150, Primus II 250, Primus II 360, Primus II C26, etc. They are definitely a new line. Plus they are available in beech color.

The infinity primus 362 speaker during the past few months came up in discussions in the audioholics and avsforum as the mystery 500 dollar speakers in the floyd toole listening test comparisons that trump up many high end designs costing much higher including the b&w 802n. I have long wanted to know what the best performing speakers were after reading the papers by Sean Olive and Floyd Toole but it is only recently that I found out the identity of one of those speakers - the infinity 362. I am very happy to discover this because I can have a chance to own "Revels" that are somewhat affordable.
While I tend to believe them, it is important to note that Sean Olive and Floyd Toole are from Harman and that Infinity is a Harman company.

I'm initially looking at Polk TSi (or maybe can even get the monitor series kasi super cheap sa US) but I also heard previous generations of the Infinity Primus Series.
Anyway if someone could send me a pricelist (cash) for these ones that would definitely help me in my decision.

Sir, PM mo si Marc (AV Shop) isa sya sa seller ng Polks and Infinitys, sa kanya ko mabili ang Polk monitor 70 ko, but unfortunately last batch na raw yon 'coz it was replaced by a newer model like Tsi and Rtia's.

Come by the shop and audition the infinity Primus series. You can compare it with Polk, Jbl, B&w and Wharfedale speakers using Hk, Denon and Onkyo receivers. :)

I ran into them in SM North Edsa (JBL/Infinity showroom at the 5th floor annex) and was quoted 15,550 cash/card price (no discount even for cash) and the irony is, its not even available for 'audition'
I find it strange (hence was turned off with the salesperson) that you cannot audition speakers before you buy them.
It will be paired with an HK stereo receiver (HK3470) for stereo/2.1 use

Any feedback on the new primus?
I got a pair of 163's = $160
a pair of 152's = $100
PC250 = $75
total = 335 - about 14k++ php
the pricing can't be beat for a 5.0 set up. but i havent heard it though. just read good reviews. I'll be using it purely for HT in a small room to be paired with a yamaha 671 which i also got on sale.

still using an infinity set. IMHO, the p363 is way way better than warfs. also much better than the TSI series. cant go wrong either with its price tag. :D :D not the best looking FS though

I personally recommend this speakers, i do personally use them also for ilang years na, we do have them on demo also para sa mga pdvd peeps sa qc area na curious marining.

I tried comparing bookshelves. Polk TSI200 and the Primus 163 using a Yamaha recevier. I like the Primus better for HT purposes. sa music naman I tried the same using an itegrated amp the polk sounds better. but thats according to my un-trained ears.

11 years and still in love.... with my primus 360... experimenting with schiit saga-->t-amp, very nice... i can hear the 6sn7, other speakers more expensive pero waley ang tubo
