Title: Korean TV Series/Movies Recommendation
Post by: ryu on Apr 28, 2005 at 05:19 PM
Hi guys

Korean movies and telenovelas are really "in" these days.
I really like My Sassy Girl, Il Mare, The Classic, and so on....

Just recently, I borrowed "Lover's in Paris"
and boy, I'm glued to my sit watching this. I really liked it. This is the first telenovela that my whole family (including my yayas) watched together (but of course through dvds na since we dont really watch any telenovela on TV)

This leaves me to my next question, what korean telenovela do you recommend we should watch next? My friend/neighbor have Stained Glass, Last Dance, Full House, etc.  What should I borrow first?

Any jologs here in pinoydvd forum?  ;)

Present!  Hahahahah! ;D  Haven't seen any of the Korean Telenovelas currently on TV. But the movies you mentioned ---- I love, love, love the stories! The number one Korean Telenovela of some two years ago was All About Eve yata (not so sure because tele-dramas in general, I don't like.)

They're remaking IL MARE for Hollywood, you know? Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock are said to star in it but I don't know if this is a done deal. IL MARE na SPEED? ;D Bagay ba sila for the story?

I am now watching this with my wife. Normally, I play it around 9 pm then matatapos kami before 12 midnight. Pero laging bitin, we both enjoy watching it. Really funny. After Lovers in Paris then Full House, so my watching experience of telenovela is quite good.  Siguro until Sunday, tapos ko na itong series na ito.

A Moment to Remember is really worth watching.

Daddy Long Legs and My Boyfriend is Type B are good or "ok lang"

Lover's Concerto is also a good film.

Lover's Concerto is also a good film.

I was able to watch this in cable " cinema one" dubbed in tagalog. Ok naman sya.
Another twist near the end like most korean films.  :)

hmm, wonder how it would sound? hehehehehehehehe

was interested in this movie because I thought it would be like a korean version of Strictly Ballroom. It started like Strictly Ballroom, the man is a pro teaching a newbie girl dancer.    :'( :'( :'( hu hu hu - recommended if you want to cry. At first, I though medyo parang hindi ata maganda.
pero,  after episode 4, addictive na yung story and when the story almost end and I though tapos na ang   iyakan, pina kabahan nanaman yung puso ko dun sa last scene.

My heart is still aching. I went to work heart broken. Maga yung mata namin kakaiyak. Buti nalang hindi ako pinagtatawanan ng misis ko.  :-[

I'll stop muna borrowing Korean dvds. Magkaka heart attack ako. e meron pa naman na ipapahiram sa akin na Autumn in my heart and stairways to heaven. Ayoko na muna.  :'( :'( :'( :-[

hehe... I'm one of you guyz.. hehe...

Since you loved My Sassy Girl, try catching Crazy First Love.  ::) You might also like it. Remember Gyunwoo? His also the leading man on this film. Its genre is also love and comedy. As usual, Gyunwoo gets the crazy part again. Unlike in tne My Sassy film, Gyunwoo is twice more wackier and wilder on this film.  ;D

Oh yeah, I might forget... Have you heard of Windstruck? Some people say that it's a prequel of My Sassy Girl. I'm just not sure about it but it also have some connections in some parts.Check also this film out. The characters on My Sassy are also the one on this film. It's kind of serious compared to My Sassy but its also good.

Ei, do you want a korean film like so close? Put also on your list My Wife Is a Gangster. The girl there is sooo coolll!! It's a comedy and a karate thing. hehe. I was actually entertained with the stunts and the leading girl. I actually loved the first one. the My Wife is a gangster 2 is not that good so just check out the first one. harhar. Well, I hope you'll like it because my cousin who is kind of choosey on the films he watch didn't like it.  ;)

Oh my... I'm sorry... I should have posted all my messages as one... I remembered something kasi after I have posted it.

Anyway, I'm actually not only into Korean films and tv series but also into Japanese and Taiwanese. Haha. I've just finished watching A Promise of Love at the Dolphin Bay nga eh.  ;D ;D ;D

Here's the catch: Last last month, I finished watching the Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO) Live. It's a Jap TV series. I highly recommend you to watch this. Its concept was from its anime series. It's really really good. I'm pretty sure you'll like the story because the people whom I recommended the tv series loved it and some even burned it for their copy. One of my classmates even slept 4 am in the morning because she can't stop watching it. I tell you, the plot is pretty unique. There even came a time that I said to myself that the scriptwriter of GTO live must be really bright to have come up with such story.  ::) ;D :D I promise you, you won't regret watching it....  ;D

For those who loves a twisted serious love story... try watching BUNGEE JUMPING ON THEIR OWN. The first part of the story is actually boring because it's a "from the past" sort of thing. But when you reach the mid part to the end, it's actually shocking - a really unique one! I never watched anything like this. hehe.

I forgot the name of the actors. But if you're watching the ALL IN chinovela (would I say, Korean novela) shown in Qtv channel 11 (7:30pm Mon-Fri), he's also the main character.  ::)

Me and my cousins just finished watching korean films. Among the films I've watched, I liked INNOCENT STEPS. Watch it. It's a new released film - 2005. The lead character is also the actress from My Little Bride and The Tale of Two Sisters.  She acts better on this film.

what if modern korea were a constitutional monarchy with a king? you get a comedy/drama series called princess hours (goong). unique setting but still the same old story. adorable cute girl falls for an a**hole guy, in this story an a** prince. and as usual the lead actress makes it interesting to watch and carries the show. im still on the 11th episode out of 24. so hoping this one would've a different ending for the characters.

finished  ;D  still loved it and highly recommended, but dont expect too much with the story. everything happens as expected. its just very sad that our favorite character yul had to go through much sacrifices until the end, a somewhat tragic ending for me. nice music and great use of teddy bears to summarize every episode  ;)

....

and My Name is Kim Sam Soon - recommended   :) :) :)

There is something in here that really stuck in my head or is it in my heart that I don't know.
I felt something I can not describe that made my whole Sunday just thinking or do nothing.
I felt somehow what possibly the guy was feeling.  :-[   drama ko....

my wyf loved princess hours. but there were scenes that kinda dragged the pace.

one scene that really struck me was when the queen mother was watching a tv series and she was really enjoying herself. she was watching "kim sam soon". :)

so i watched it (with a bad english subtitle).
now i know why even an empress would watch it.  ;D
no wonder it was the highest rated series in korea last year.

ngaun ko lang napapanood ang tagalog dubbed.
by using pinoy slang and gayspeak sa script, sobrang okey ang lines & delivery! :D

sad movie

we rented this movie thinking it was a love actually korean remake. well, its kind of but all of its stories had sad endings. the title actually spoils it for you. fortunately for us, its title when we rented it was a season for love. i have no complains for this movie except for the title. i mean a 5-year old could've thought of that. anyhow, its now one of my wife's fave korean movie cause this one made her cry the most  ;D  which previously i think was the classic. btw, it has an all-star cast, at least for those familiar to korean films

 ;)

finished watching Kim Sam Soon. its not your common korean series. the lead actress is not the attractive type (physically... well you know what i mean). there were many bathroom scenes... reminds me of beavis, i need TP for my b*ngh0le. and what i like about it is that there was no evil villain. recommended indeed  ;)

I'm currently starting to watch Emperor of the Sea (tv-series), just borrowed the dvd set.

I'm also watching the show currently showing in KBS channel during the weekend (Sat. & Sunday starts around 8:30pm)
Does anyone know the English title for that?  The show is set around medieval Korea vs China(Tang Dynasty).  Or if there's already a DVD set out there. Tnx

he was cool. reminds me a lot of my tutor friend, guy fighter whom every girl likes, the simple chic, the usual korean comedy/drama. but i like this one better than MTF because it was simply more entertaining and had funnier scenes. its fight sequences/wire-fu are better. first korean movie i've seen that deals with the sensitive AIDS/HIV issue. even had a gogo yubari look-alike that's cute as a doll. i wonder why gorgeous koreans are most of the time single in their movies. are they everywhere?  ;D

just found out the lead actress here, Jeong Da-Bin, committed suicide last feb. if you've watched the series Attic Cat and My 19yo Sister-in-law, then you've probably seen her. one actor said "Celebrities are under a lot of stress because of their uncertain future". instant fame really has its price  :(

I also loved the cameo at the end. ;D

Hmm....Park Si Yeon is Miss Korea 2000? Kim Sa-Rang (Sexy Teacher/Who Slept With Her, A Love To Kill) is also Miss Korea 2000. ;D

REgarding Korean actresses' suicide, I remember one other korean actress who committed suicide because of supposedly being so engrossed with her role in one of her movies. I can't remember the name (their names are difficult to remember) but I can still remember the face.

Such a simple plot and very predictable. But if you enjoy sex comedies, then I'd recommend it. BTW, former Miss Korea Kim Sa Rang plays the teacher who teases all the pervs in the school  ;)  I'm just disappointed with their musical. I was hoping it would be more... sexy?  ::)

The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince

Finally found a DVD with english subs. Currently on Episode 5. It has an Imelda Marcos reference on Episode 1. I hope they'll include it in the tagalized version.

Yoon Eun Hye still won't pass as a guy for me. But I guess most of their younger generation looks like both, just as one of the characters said. For a 24 year old guy, she's still scrawny, and too pretty for a guy  ::)  But hey, Lee Jun Ki (King and the Clown) looks like a girl  :P

So far, best funny moments of the series, is when the lead guy is falling for him (Yoon Eun Hye), and beginning to question his sexuality  ;D

My Girlfriend is a Gumiho is fun.. Bad Family is good as well.. Secret Garden is one of the recent ones that I liked.. and Hong Gil Dong as well, about the Korean Robin Hood.. those are the cute/romance ones.. if you like action/suspense stuff, Resurrection, Time of Dog and Wolf and Story of a Man/The Slingshot are pretty good..

you can watch plentiful Korea-novelas from KBS World and Channel M, both are airing in Sky Cable channels 75 and 191 respectively.

scripts are simple to understand but intelligently done. stories, sub-plots have good weaving.

common elements: accidents, amnesia, connections from the past, love stories are feel-good, actions are about justice...

Recently watched A Moment to Remember. A very good drama about a girl with an early onset Alzheimer's Disease. My wife cried on this movie.  Loved Son Ye-Jin.  ;)

if you want to see a girl cry, make them watch this movie. haha

My wife and I have always liked Korean movies, not K dramas. We only started watching K dramas during the lockdown. She prefers straight drama, weepy stuff, no comedy. Even CLOY she found to have too many comedy moments, for her taste.

She liked That Winter, the Wind Blows. Currently she is enjoying the new series on Viki.com, When My Love Blooms, though a new episode comes out just once a week.

Any recommendations of similar series from the pdvd K drama gurus?

They really make good movies, this one is more gory than John Wick, selling children's organs thru that psychotic look drug infused Doctor.

You should try to see "I SAW THE DEVIL" serial killing at its best! One of the most unique movies I viewed as a matter of fact better than the western made ones.

Both I Saw the Devil and The Good, The Bad, The Weird are directed by Kim Jee-woon. His A Bittersweet Life (that climactic shootout is still fantastic), A Tale of Two Sisters (good horror) and The Age of Shadows (good historical spy thriller) are also highly recommended.

Windstruck

My Sassy Girl and Il Mare were so good that Hollywood adapted and made their own versions ... Il Mare was the movie The Lake House of Keanu and Sandra Bullock, I did not like the Hollywood version of My Sassy Girl - no way at par with the Korean version

If you like mababaw lang na comedy action series, try The Fiery Priest.
Just finished watching this and it is entertaining. Also hoping for a second season. Bagay sya sa Pilipinas because of the fighting catholic priest bida theme.

Dapat to mag unahan na ang abs cbn and gma na kunin to sa primetime nila (tagalized).

These are the TV series that we finished so far, and all are highly recommended -

Hotel Del Luna
Crash Landing on You
Touch Your Heart
Legend of the Blue Sea
Marriage Contract

Ongoing, just 3 episodes completed - The World of the Married

Nothing new on the movies, but we really like the movies of Jun Ji-Hyun -

My Sassy Girl
Il Mare
Windstruck

ang ganda niyan ni Jun Ji Hyun...

i was excited nung sinabi na she'll be in Season 2 ng Kingdom... kaya lang cameo lang pala and Season 3 pa siya talaga lalabas

^ tapos ang galing pa nila gumawa ng medical hospital themed series. Very believable and detailed, ganda ng production. Pati script and research nila akala mo talagang doctor sila na nag oopera.

Walang wala na talaga tayo. Pati Hollywood nalalagpasan na nila.
