does anyone know of any cases or covers to protect the discs? i keep reading about flimsy cases, fingerprints adhesive cases -heh-, and cardboard cases like fight club that are prone to mishandling. has anyone seen any protective covering like those thick plastic sleeves they store laserdiscs in? me? i dont have any problems with handling the dvds cause my hands arent clammy and sweaty but i want to protect my "investments" nontheless. Although, after hearing about HD-DVD im refraining from buying too much dvds at this time.

Protecting and Handling DVD's require the same care as CD's and LD's as of the present, I don't know if there are plastic cases like those of the late Laserdiscs are available, but I do know that the plastic cases like those of Dreamworks DVD's are available locally. They can be found at some magazine shops like shop and lift at Virra Mall in Greenhills for 95 pesos each.

I dunno know rin about any special plastic covers like the ones for LDs. But you can try looking at National Bookstore for a plastic envelope type that would accommodate a DVD case.
What I do for my collectible DVDs is while in storage, I place them in thin clear plastic envelopes. These are the othes that come as packaging for some magazines or catalogs. The material is soft and clear and it minimizes scratches on the celophane-like covering of the DVD case. Kasi di ba they tend to get scratches even by simply sliding one DVD case over another.

Dump my suggestion about clear plastic envelopes at National Bookstore. I went there yesterday to check out some pero mali naman ang sizes. The closest was too tall for a DVD. Plus high posibility of scratches on the plastic cover when you slit the DVD case inside the clear plastic envelope.
Sayang kasi P9.75 lang sana siya each.

why not just get the dvd disk, and put it in a normal cd case and keep the cardboard box type case in a safe and secure place where no one would touch it, you don't need the case to play the disk anyways.
like my video rental store, they don't give the original case, they just have the dvd case (bought at 10 pesos, i think) with a photo copy of the cover

1. Are the Amaray cases the carton type covers of MGM?
2. What's snapper box graphics?
3. What's a snapper box - is this the typical black plastic cover of DVDs?

Hi weddingsingr - you've got it backwards. The Amaray case is the "usual" plastic DVD case, while snappers are the unpopular cardboard ones used by Warner Brothers and New Line (MGM din ba? Because my Princess Bride, A Fish Called Wanda, Fiddler on the Roof and This is Spinal Tap -- MGM releases all -- came in Amaray cases)

Protective sleeves for DVD cases:
Snap Case - nilalagyan ko ng plastic cover mismo yung carton nya na para kang nagko-cover ng books/notebooks.
and nilalagay ko pa sa individually wrapped plastics na kagaya nung sa mga CDs.
Keep Case - also I bought plastic/cellophane na kagaya nung sa mga CD but in the size of the DVD's Keep Casing parang Brand New pa din ang dating and preserve pati yung outer covering nya away from scratches.

Where do you get this DVD-sized plastic covers? I need to get some of these, too. :)
As for me, As much as possible, I use the original shrink wrap, lalo na yung mga Criterion titles na may sticker na "Director Approved". But sometimes, it's a hassle to put it back dahil yung shrink wrap very fragile and it's sometimes too tight.
One advantage of putting the DVDs back in their shrink wrap: It looks new, when they are stacked together in a shelf, yung mga gustong makialam, nahihiyang buksan o galawin, akala bago ...he he he ;) (I noticed this once with my brother who has a habit of dropping by the house and watching my DVDs when I'm not around) ;D.

For my dvd's with cardboard packaging like the one used for fight club and moulin rouge, what I did is I made a case out of acetate, where I can easily slide my unprotected DVD cases into.

actually ay barya lang naman sya.
and ang bilihan kasi nun ay 500 pcs. minimum and it is resealable and very much like the same nung sa cd resealable plastic bag.
at hindi ko yata mapapaabot ng ganun kadami ang koleksyon ko, hehe. ;D
bale may nag-alok lang nyan sa akin kasi ang binibili ko talaga ay plastics for sandwich and pang-baon.
kaya ang baon ko ngayon ay puro disc, hehe! ;D
ang nabentahan ko na nung plastic ay si Compaq pa lang, bale try lang sya ng 20 pcs. and 100pcs. cd-sized for his cd collections, too.
minsan nga lang ay hindi kasya yung snap case kasi yung mga kanto nya ay nakaka-sugat mismo sa plastic kaya maghahanap ako nung pang snappers and for dual-thick (like criterion or dual casing before na makakapal) at malamang na 500 pcs. na naman ang minimum noon.
kaya lang kung bibili kayo ay mas mapapamahal kung via fedex pa ;D
but i'm always there in ayala makati commercial area.

I dont know if this is true( coz I havent actually seen the actual item ) pero I vaguely remember a computer shop in AliMall( 3rd floor ) where they sell CD-films, or protective films na ididikit mo sa read side ng CDs mo, and they say it's for DVDs, too.
Ill try to look for it again, and give you guys a report kung bogus yun o hinde.

Sorry, only able to see this thread now ;).
One place where I got these kind of protective plastic for DVD cases is in Divisoria - Commoner's is the name of the shop, located near the corner of Ilaya Street and the road that leads to the Divisoria Mall. I suggest you bring along a sample of each of the different cases you mostly have so you could try it. Last time I was there, around Christmas time, they sell in packs of 100s. They have samples of different sizes, and the plastics are resealable (similar to CD cases) ;).
Lastly, dont worry about the price - nothing to steep. Lets just say you'll swear your visit to Divisoria is well worth it. So don't bring too much cash lang po, paalala lang :)

Here's the exact location of Commoner's Plastic Store in Divisoria - its right across the fire station at the point where Juan Luna and Ylaya Streets intersect.
For those bringing their cars, there's a parking lot about 50 meters from the store. For those taking public transport, the Divisoria-bound FXs pass by Juan Luna and you can get off right across.
For resealeable plastic cases that are great fit both for keepcases and snappers alike, the price is P27.50 per pack of 100's. ;)
Worth the trip, right ? ;)

I bought mine at Virramall 2nd floor near Astrovision. the store sells mostly cd-r's, cd cases and cd binders well. They have a sign posted, for sale DVD Cellophane. If i recall it sells for P50 per 100pcs.

I asked one of our helpers to buy the plastic sleeves for the CD and DVD size with the resealable sticker at the end na 100 pcs each at RAFFS Alabang and the total price for everything was P56.00 unfortunately the DVD plastic was not the exact size and it was loose so it really didn't look nice on the DVD so what i did was cut out the excess with the heat sealer that you buy at tiangges and now it's just prefect.... time consuming lang nga to do it :(

i went to divisoria the other day hoping to find those protective sleeves...but to no avail...they have no stocks left (inubos niyo no? ;D)
and i end up buying plastic sheets which look like ziploc bags...8" inches and costs 100 bucks for 100 pieces... ;D

are these plastics acid free? if they arent, they will do more damage in the long run to the card board

Whoaaa acid free , kala ko for photos lang yon ah ;D My DVDs are normally in the regular Amaray cases and it has its own plastic covering na diba so i don't think it will matter anymore if those plastics are acid free or not BUT i do appreciate the info just in case i do get the cardboard type casing :) Thanks for the info

Magkapareho ba ito? Went to Astrovision Greenhills. Didn't see that sign. Nagtanong din ako sa loob, wala raw silang DVD cellophane. Any other place in Greenhills where they might have this, if this is indeed the kind with a resealable adhesive? That's what I'm interested in. Ito rin ba yung nabibili sa Commoner's/Raff's? Kaso nga Makati/Mandaluyong/Ortigas/San Juan lang ako nakakaikot.
Also, how can I tell if it's acid free plastic?

i asked someone to go to commoners in divisoria but the sleeves they have are too wide for the DVD cases. a store in the 2nd floor of virra mall, greenhills (the one that sells magazines, posters, photocopied vide game guides, and euro license plates) sell these for P5 or 6 per sleeve. in fairness ;D the sleeves are a way thicker compared the ones in divisoria. but they are too much for me since i need over 500 pcs :(
can someone direct me to a wholseller that sells quality (and cheap) sleeves.
i remember during the laserdisc days when video shops have their own custom made plasic sleeves. does anyone know a shop that makes them?thanks.

My sister's business is on making souvenirs and that includes making those "acetate boxes" for those souvenirs. she's made me slipcases (like those from anime dvds) ill try to ask her if she's willing to make more if anybody would be interested... ill upload the photo when I get home this weekend

I've posted in assorted buy n sell... sorry can't get a decent picture because I don't have a decent camera right now... but anyway those aren't made of the acetate for xeroxing (that's quite thin) but from a different thicker plastic which I don't know where my sister acquired.

Forgot all about this thread already ... Raffs Alabang sells DVD Protective sleeves with the resealable thing na exact size ng normal dvds.
I bought mine a last year after I got a taste of the wrong sized one which was a little bigger lang than the normal one.
I will try to go there tomorrow to check if they still have those sleeves and give this thread an update as to how much they cost now :-)

If you are coming from Asian Hospital along Civic Drive, turn right to Centennial Lane then turn left ( walang name yung street eh ) and after a few meters enter the jeepney terminal thats at the right side ( you have to pay P6.00 if you enter there and it says entrance only pero nakiusap nalang ako to go out there too and pumayag naman ). As soon as you enter after paying just go straight and you will see a store that sells packaging materials and yun na yun Raffs.
There's an entrance at the other side too pero hindi ko alam yun so call them nalang and ask them for directions.

korek... that's an opinion. me? i'd rather see my dvd's cases wrapped in clear plastic rather than scratched, dusty or "scored". and if putting seeing them in plastic will prolong my cases' life... so be it. but that's just me... :P

Ako naman as always I am very "maingat" with our dvds because my husband and I spend so much in getting them.
Keeping them in those resealable plastics DEFINITELY protects the quality of the dvd covers and since they are so cheap naman pagmedyo the resealable plastic is medyo gusot na masyado... just change it to a new one and WOW super mukhang bago nanaman yung dvd mo forever :-)
Yes, kanya kanya lang yan but I feel that because I take care of how my dvds turn out even doon sa cover then definitely mas bigger ang chances ko na laging mukhang clean and new yung dvd ko compared to someone who doesn't use the resealable plastic :-)

Just came from Raffs Alabang to look if meron sila resealable plastic for the TROY LE. While I was inquiring about shrink wraps and other stuff, the guy ( Raymund ) told me that I'm lucky kasi inabutan ko pa sila doon kasi lilipat na sila .... WHAAATTTTT ( with matching sad,shocked and ka-aawa-awang face ) WHYYYYY ??? Ang sad news naman niyan. Why kayo lilipat and where ?
Raymund said na lilipat na daw sila sa Cavite lang naman ( Waaaaaaaaa ang layo kaya non ) so i said meron ka bang map going to the new place? Aba, at meron siya... after looking at the map, lalo akong na sad kasi wala akong kilala na road doon. HehEHEhEhe. So I said pwede paki sulat naman yung address ninyo please. And he did naman soooooo here it is...

Put some of my DVDs in these plastic sleeves yesterday. Wow! nag-mukhang bago because nagkintaban yung mga packaging. I'll be busy this weekend repacking my DVDs and cleaning the shelves na rin. Many thanks again to ms. diver. :)

If you're coming from makati going to QC, nandoon siya along edsa. Siya yung last store na makikita mo sa bldg na yun. I saw it lang in passing but I think it's worth looking at kasi madali lang siya puntahan.

Oi cherubrock OT ka ha !!!! ( diver tiradors cherubrock with lots of monggo seeds na super lakas ). Ako gusto ko pumunta sa podium noh kaso yung asawa ko po ang ayaw magpapunta sa akin doon kasi nga po hindi daw safe yung parking sa baba ng mall at saka OO, nakapunta na po ako sa guadalupe :P

Hehehe.. Seriously though, diver has been kind enough in the past to give us some of these protective sleeves, in various sizes pa. The biggest is a perfect fit for irregularly large packaging such as the local Troy LE and Band of Brothers tin, while the smallest is great for snappers! ;D

Two weeks ago I was able to asked my cousin, who lives in Bacoor, to buy me some resealable plastics from the same factory. He was able to buy just 100pcs. of size 7" x 10" for P140. You can put 2 amaray or snapper cases in one plastic. 1 slip case the size of the Korean Big Fish LE or Black Hawk Down Superbit DE but too small for LOTR EE dvds. These type of resealable plastic is of the zip lock type. I don't know if they change policy since then. I will have to ask my cousin to go back to the factory again.

naku, none of those are the same size, and sayang naman kung bibili ka ng marami just to cover 1 boxset. you may well have to improvise with what's available, as in tailor fit your outer boxset from plastic cover, i got that idea from carreraGT when i bought my "Bug's Life" from him. :)

Sorry, the stall doesn't have a name. but its easy to find. Just go to the 3rd floor of Shoppesville, there's a short flight of stairs about 5 steps up to a "mezzanine" . This area is where the computers/peripherals, CDs/DVD games even CD-R king shop is located. The stall selling the protective sleeves is at the right side on the top of the stairs. Bungad lang. 8)

i suppose a 7"x 10" would fit up to 3 DVDs but you'll have to measure first just to make sure, my friend will be getting the 6"x 9" plastics this Tuesday, i'll have him check the price for the 7"x 10"s and will update you. :)

7 x 10 fits LOTR Special Extended Editions perfectly. The 8 x 11 plastic naman fits the R3 Limited Edition Troy perfectly :)

"dvd paper?" do you mean snap case? like the ones Warner Bros are usually using?, you'll have to give me the exact dimensions / measurement. the plastic sleeves that i have is very fine and in terms of thickness, the ones selling in shoppesville are thicker and a little more expensive. ;)

For those who want to have an alternative to Ranrans sleeves (especially those that cannot meet him), you could try those seleable plastic bags found at the grocery store. It is normally use as a container for putting food into the ref.
One brand that i could suggest is reynolds ziploc, but there are a lot of other brands. The plastic is air tight selable and is quite thick.
I got mine for 90-100 pesos for 20 pieces ( forgot the brand name) size is 7'' x 8''. But there are also those generic ones which is a lot cheaper.
btw, i bought mine at landmark.

Thanks for the protective sleeves. I've just finished putting those on my DVDs and boy, my small collection suddenly looked better and cleaner. No more worries about wear from constant rubbing of cases. :)

the 8x11 is good for up to 4 amaray cases lang sayang Ultimate Matrix is 5 amaray case and a thick box. :(

the next size would be 7"x 10"- this would be just a little too big though. if you're interested i'm selling this at 100pcs for P60 only. :)

hi ranran, I just talked to Raymund of Dasmariñas Packaging and he said meron daw sila plenty of sizes bigger than the 8 x 11 na resealable adhesive plastic sleeves. Would it be okay to order 100 pcs of the 9 x 13 resealable adhesive plastic sleeves please ? Thanks a lot ha :)
You know what you guys with box sets na iba iba na sizes can do .... buy a bigger resealable adhesive plastic sleeve and then buy that mini sealer that they sell sa SM na color white and customize nalang the plastic para that way almost all your box sets will look like new ;)
The one that they sell in SM looks like the picture on the left, yung gray color.

I got mine at SM Southmall. They were doing a demo at the cookware section ... it's right beside the tefal display. They set up a small table lang. Sometimes it gets ubos but they always replenish it but just to be sure, tell the guy that you are interested in getting a handy sealer. It's being distributed by a company called Edmark.

hi diver, my wife has the grey sealer pero she's having a hard time using it, anyway, i'll try to see if i can get a 9x13 plastic sleeve but the problem is i might get stuck with so much of this size plastic (medyo mahirap i-dispose).

There's a trick to holding it and using the proper pressure ;D Once you learn that, it's easy as pie. You can't put too much pressure kasi it will just burn the plastic or if it's not yet hot, it will just pull the plastic and ruin it. You have to slide it slowly but not too slowly kasi it will burn the plastic again.
If you live near me maybe I can show your wife how to use it or better still, when she's in shoemart let her go to that guy who demonstrates it and just tell him/her na bumili siya dati pero she's having a hard time using it and to please teach her.

Those plastic shrink-wraps are available at Dasmariñas Packaging also. Bought a few meters from them when they had a store near Asian Hospital pa. If you can't find any, I'm willing to give you some of what I have but you have to try to see first if they still sell them or I can check for you nalang since I will be going to their Cavite store sometime this week.

hi guys! i just want to ask if there is another store that sells these type of sleeves aside from the one in dasma, cavite? passed by this afternoon but the minimum is 500 pcs, thats too much! i only need around 200pcs 6x9, 50pcs 7x10, 50pcs 6.25x9 and a size that could fit the SW trilogy box set and the TIGER woods 3 dvd set. hope someone can help me... ??? ??? ??? sir ran? can you help me? hello question lang regarding these sleeves m new in this.
1. how will you stack this in your dvd shelf, hindi ba pangit tingnan and magulo yun plastic when its up already on the shelf
2. are the plastics on these like the one you can buy in national book store, na puede book cover. Im thinking of using these and use the sealer din
3. The seal on top is it like the ziploc bags or velcro type

Moks007... the sleeves we get from ranran come in different sizes so standard dvd cases (amaray to box sets) should fot them to a tee... its not really a problem when stacking them... hindi naman pangit tingnan... ;) ;) ;)
the plastics is a bit thinner than the ones used for books sold at Nationa... better bumili ka na lang kay ranran para hassle free na... they are sealed via adhesive strip ;) ;) ;)

thanks sir jeckjeck for filling in for me (medyo busy lately). anyway sir Moks, the adhesive plastic sleeves will not in anyway, impact the way you stack or store your DVDs, they are meant to fit your DVDs (as Ace Ventura puts it) 'like a glove' ;)

Ang mura naman nung resealable plastic na yun. P70 for 100 pieces? Yung pinabili ko, P125 for 50 pieces.
