-
any movies / scene na ok yung bass
-
check this out. http://www.svsubwoofers.com/faq.htm#moviedemos
Some examples : Attack of the Clones, Phantom Menace, Black Hawk Down, Twister, LOTR. Some of these movies don't have lots of bass but when they do they go really low.

I used U-571 (DTS) and TITAN AE to pound on the Revel B-15 subwoofer, If you want to scare your friends these 2 dvds are a pleasure to listen to. ;D
-
Try nyo ung "Pod Racing" sa Starwars EP1, grabe LFE nun!

i agree with you on DTS U571 ;D boom, boom, boom
-
where can i find these test disc? thanks
-
They're not really "test" discs in the true sense of the word, but really movies for showcasing the LFE capability of your set-up at certain sections of the movie. And you can use any of these sections to test. If you can get hold of those THX-certified DVD titles, there's always a THX segment there for audio and video test that you can use for more thorough assessment.

hi im a new dvd fanatic.. just want to ask a question.. ano ba yung decoder? nahihiwalay ba yung mga sounds nun? hehehe sory medyo inosente pa hehehe
-
I always use DTS demo disk 4 & 8 (DTS-ES) to demo LFE & surrounds to my guests. Beats opening every DVD and forwarding to the awesome LFE & surround scenes.
Demo disk 4:Haunting, AntZ, SPR
Disk 8: LOTR TTT, Pirates of the Carribean, Daredevil, Gangs of New York
Believe it or not, the loud LFE of these demo disks serve as my stress reliever when I am tired.
Specially the explosion in LOTR TTT wall breach scene! Grabe, my HT room & sofa shakes from this scene.
Also:
Blade 2 (DTS-ES) Club scene
Day After Tomorrow (Flooding scene)
AVP
Sky Captain
-
MASTER AND COMMANDER ung kay russell crowe
-
- Godzilla
- Titanic
- Jurassic Park 1-3
- dts demo discs - release 9 is the latest as of posting
:)
-
Just watched Fantasia 2000 (classical music with lots of LFE) last night
Others:
Monsters, Inc.
Incredibles
Pearl Harbor
Minority Report -Shockwave gun scene, test the slam of your sub!
-
The Pod Race Scene at Star Wars Episode 1.. Its a vibrating experience!
-
i tried yung 10.5 na movie! oks din puro earthquake yun eh! hehe ;D

THE LOST WORLD (JP2) dts
SAVING PRIVATE RYAN dts

MASTER AND COMMANDER ung kay russell crowe
The canon shots go really deep here, but not that loud. Like the 10hz in the SW pod races, they should tell you how low your subs can go, but not how powerful or slammy.
-
SAVING PRIVATE RYAN dts
While the first 30 minutes of SPR can test your sub for the explosions, it really does a better job more as a showcase of what a 5.1 surround set-up can do as the bullets criss-cross the room and the machine guns fire from every direction. It's probably the most intense surround activity cramped in 30 minutes.

sir av! pano pong 10hz? nameasure po ba yun? tnx!
-
The HAUNTING 6.1 DTS-ES

sir av! pano pong 10hz? nameasure po ba yun? tnx!
A spectograph can measure that. Not at home. The pod race contains 10 hz components according to some lab measurements in at least two net articles I read a few years back. So if your sub can go down to 22hz as most serious subs do, others down to 18hz, then the sub can really do its job as there'd be a lot of those low frequency signals the sub can work on.
-
What a wonderful thread! I actually remembered that I base my collection from this criteria: good LFE.
Keep em good LFE titles pouring boys... :D
-
sir av! ah ok i got it! test ko ulit subs ko with that! hehe tnx ;D

Thats what I always expect sa mga THX titles; but I was dissapointed by the "The Abyss" dvd R3 version kasi wala syang THX test menu although nakalagay sa packaging na "THX Certified". Grabe talaga ibang R3, madaya! Well, kasi baka dahil P299 lang sya...

hehe i just found out that my xmen1 has thx optimizer stuff! hehe how do u properly tune the system based on the freq sweep there? tnx guys!
-
Just arrived so havent watched the whole movie yet, but chapter one pa lang busog ka na sa LFE:
Blade Trinity DTS-ES
-
sir matz u have the stealth ryt? try that too! ;D
-
hehe i just found out that my xmen1 has thx optimizer stuff! hehe how do u properly tune the system based on the freq sweep there? tnx guys!
The LFE sweep on the THX optimizer will require an SPL meter to check for flat frequency levels at your listening position as the frequencies traverse the crossover point between your main and sub from 200hz to 20hz. Without it, you can just use your ears. If there are peaks and suck-outs, then you can adjust the crossover points or use bass traps or use paramteric eq to attain the flattest response you can get
-
sir av! wat do u mean by peaks n suck-outs? the aim there is for the seamless transfer of bass ryt?
-
sir matz u have the stealth ryt? try that too! ;D
Yes, but it just arrived last night. I still havent watched it yet. My friend (who bought the DVDs for me) said that its the only movie in his opinion that beat "Top Gun" out of his personal No.1 "Jet fight movie" of all time.
I hope to watch it soon, sana lumabas na yung mga new model front PJs!!! GRRR!!! kakainip
-
sir matz! yup i liked stealth n ok din effects nya! wer did ur friend buy those from?
-
Hong Kong and its DVD9, unlike our local dvd5 release.
I just watched Amytiville Horror last night, and sulit sa LFE talaga mga horror movies. It helps big time in giving you the creeps and scaring you with the suspense music & sudden bursts of sound.
-
sir matz yup i agree w that! hehe lalo kang nagugulat sa sounds eh pag horror n suspense! are those R3 in HK? how much ba dun? tnx bro!
-
The Grudge. Sobrang low volume ang receiver para di ako magulat......
-
The T-REX first apperance in Jurrasic Park contains real room shakers. I only have the DD version. The DTX version must be awesome.
-
sir av! wat do u mean by peaks n suck-outs? the aim there is for the seamless transfer of bass ryt?
Sorry for delayed response. Saw this just now.
Yes, the aim is seamless crossing between the sub and main. But the THX sweep can also identify peaks (in-phase reinforcements) and suck-outs (out-of-phase cancellations) due to room modes unique to your room geometry. Then you can correct for these abberations.

SAVING PRIVATE RYAN
PEARL HARBOR and other flicks by Michael Bay

man, my brain almost exploded after reading through this! ;D ;D ;D

after reading dozens of Sir AV's posts on technical audio information, I have already established a great deal of respect for him. I just feel bad that I can't really understand 95% of what he says :-\
sir av, if you'd think of holding an Audiophile 101 class for dummies, let me know ok?
cheers! ;)
-
karamihan ng mga dts-es at dts dvds ata...
LOTR - TTT and ROTK (mga fight scenes)
Gladiator (Battle of Carthage)
Minority Report (dun sa my lfe na baril ata yun)
Saving Private Ryan

Thank you, Dunforgiven. The things I say can always be verfied by a simple google search to check them out for more details. In the case of room modes, that's the phrase you can google and there are many excellent explanations out there.
And no, while I'd like to, I believe the net is a great 101 course for virtually anything under the sun. ;D Thanks again.
-
sir av! tnx for the reply! yup i got to check my speaker n theyre in phase naman. so with the freq sweep test wat do i have to reconfigure here just the XO's of the avr or the sub? tnx agn sir!
-
After 1 year in the shelf, I finally pulled out GODZILLA last night and cranked the subs to higher than normal volume.
It felt like Godzilla was stomping in my room.
-
sir av! tnx for the reply! yup i got to check my speaker n theyre in phase naman. so with the freq sweep test wat do i have to reconfigure here just the XO's of the avr or the sub? tnx agn sir!
Can be both, if the avr's XO doesn't go low enough and you hear a peaking of bass signals slightly below the AVR's XO point. Adjusting the sub to an XO lower than the AVR can help.
-
sir av! 80hz is the lowest setting in my avr... n the XO of the sub is said to be 40-220 thats for the DTX 4.10... so how do i finds the best setting for these? tnx agn!

I just watched Polar Express the other day and the LFE for the train arrival scene was really good! It was rocking the room and my guests (lots of pamangkins) were really impressed!
-
Pare kahit ano yata movie watch sa system mo eh it would rock the room, nakatodo yata yung velo eh LOL ;D joke
-
Ewan ko, walang volume knob so I dunno if the volume is already max or not :D.
Anyway, thanks for lending me the Polar Express, Mabuhay si ricky!
-
Maganda nga sound ng train sa Polar Express. Una ko narinig sa HT ni Danrd, ganda din ng setup ng HT nya. Ganda include sa demo disk itong Polar Express.
-
I watched Torque last night (DD). This is one good LFE movie, I know the story sucks, but a good portion of the movie is filled with LFE. Its more on engine sounds, unlike the usual explosions for LFE.
-
i just recently watched PANIC ROOM (Superbit), and wow... it made my chair rumble! The dts track is superb!
-
Check this out:

Nice link bro with lots of demo references :D
-
I just watched Deep Impact SE last night , after over a year of the DVD in the shelf.
The video transfer wasnt impressive and so was the LFE during the doomsday sequences. They could have done a better job.
-
MAN ON FIRE DTS, watched it and saw some kinks in my room....dami ginalaw ng LFE nito..doors, closets....buti na lang. will treat them ASAP. ;D ;D
-
Yup grabe talaga yang man on fire , background music pa lang astig na ;D
-
Flight Plan
Lots of LFE in the whole movie. Intro pa lang, puro LFE na.
But no one scene is particularly worthy of being demo material, but the whole movie.
Lots of background noise using the surrounds, people talking, etc.
-
King Kong
-
Lots to mention...but for now im enjoying my system with the DTS #10 demo disc. ;D ;D ;D
peace!!!
-
kapapanood ko lang ulit, di ko alam kung nabanggit na dito
master and commander....yung scene na me canyon battle sila...
swordfish... yung explosion sa chapter one yung sumabog yung babae na may bomba sa katawan...then yung scene na pinagbabaril ni John Travolta using ultimax gun yung mga govt. agent, atsaka yung scene na binuhat nung crane helicopter yung bus nila....... di ganon kalalim ang LFE's nitong mga to pero nakakatuwa yung ingay lalo na yung sa helicopter, talagang parang umiikot sa likod mo yung tunog.....and to think na medyo luma na yung movie and walang DTS....Dolby 5.1 lang...
isip pa ako...hehehe
-
Nanny Mc Peeh
just the part when her "baston" falls. The vibration shakes our coach ;D
-
The bank robbery scene in HEAT. I think it will test how fast your sub is. With the right sub, this scene will make your heart pound with the sound of firearms. Very distinct yung bass for each type of machine gun, lalo na yung kay Al Pacino. :)
-
Latest movies I have watched that have good LFE
Van Helsing (story sux tho)
DOMINO DTS-ES
Not just awesome music, surrounds and LFE. But even the HF noises are just SO CLEAR!!!
Every shot fired, water splash, glass break, guitar string plucked, speech, clinking noises, etc are excellently encoded in DTS-es with stunning clarity.
Chinese Tall Story DTS

Steam Boy
BOY, the movie had lots of LFE. the last 45 mins of it was so full of it.
Watch this movie many times and break in na yung sub mo ;D.
There was a scene there with the "steam armored men" that had very tight bass (explosions).

My friend lend me his American Haunting yesterday and was surprise on how good the LFE and surround sound was. The haunting eerie voice of the witch circles around most of the time and lots of LFE while the havoc starts inside the house.
-
Joy Ride
I ignored this a gazillion times at DVD sales. I never expected this to be a good thriller.
The DD is soundtrack quite good, lots of LFE and surround action. Crank up your sub for this movie for fun. When the trucks pass by, they will come from your surrounds and pan to the front. A good sub can really jolt your sofa & make you feel like trucks are beside you.
-
just watch the 'Infernal Affairs', a local HK film on which the new 'THE DEPARTED' movie is based.
its on DTS format with english subtitles...
the background music has lots of LFE's, the closing of the steel doors the gun shots are very good...there are some scenes that it seems you are in the middle of it ant the bass seems to be all around you....there is some scene that my pants are shaking a bit because of the bass....hehehe and the glass of my cabinet is rattling including the windows......
this is the latest that I've watch and I enjoy it...the movie itself is very good....
I watch this out of curiousity, If director Martin Scorsese find these movie in HK quite good and actually has to make a re-make of it, then this must be a good movie....
but honestly, after watching this movie, I cant wait for 'The Departed'..... the original HK flick is hard to top IMO....:)
-
latest DVD that I've watched with very good sounding reference (although this movie is relatively old already, being released in 2002 I think)
HERO (Jet Lee, Tony Leung, Zhang Ziyi) with english subtitle...and in DTS-es
lots of good sounding scene, sword fight sequence, thunderous horse running etc.... (and the PQ is awesome too, very good cinematography).
Yun nga lang lumilipad yung mga tao...hehehehe (typical chinese movie)
-
Ok din yung driven and yung ROTK with treebird talking. :D independence day scene na padating yung space ships.
-
up until now i guess the #1 for me is still master and commander! windows still shake during the battle scenes!
LOTR trilogy.
die hard 4.0
transformers
try this and it will give your subs a work-out! ;)
-
Definitely "War of the Worlds" lightning scene. Goes down to 5 hz.
"Finding Nemo" - tapping the aquarium.
"Destiny's Child in Las Vegas" - "Soldiers"
"Celine Dion in Las Vegas" - Titanic theme song
-
Definitely "War of the Worlds" lightning scene. Goes down to 5 hz.
I agree with this, muntik na bumigay yung old sub ko dito dati, nag-plak-plak na yung tunog, di kinaya, hehehe ;D
Try also Master and Commander, nice LFE :)
-
Yep, Master & Commander
I'll also add in Godzilla(1998)
The scene where the Big G enters Manhattan with his thumpin footsteps truly rocks my world.
::)
-
- " LOTR "
- " U-571"
-
Batman Begins
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
-
BD version of "Flight of the Phoenix." While this is a BD, I guess its still valid to post the *warning* here.
This disc is notorious for having very strong LFE. I waited a long time before I thought my set-up was ready (2 big subs, bass traps, correct bass management settings at the AVR, proper Audyssey calibration). Watched it over the weekend and the LFE is indeed incredible - might be the strongest and most continuous that I've heard. Maybe the strongest LFE is during the plane crash but actually, even the background sounds throughout the movie have really deep LFE.
The end-result is that it blew my Velodyne HGS-15, which I had suspected of having a slight damage. Now, it is really gone. :'( :'(

sinira ang Velo mo??? wow.
Sunshine BD version rin, I have to turn down the sub levels. Strong LFEs too, right at the opening scenes.
-
sinira ang Velo mo??? wow.
Yup. 1250 watts amp. 15" driver. Paayos ko sa friend ni Alvin. Meanwhile ...
Matagal nang tingin ko may defect but lumalabas lang with very deep bass. Ngayon, alam kong sira na talaga cuz when I do an Audyssey calibration, the distance to the sub is set at 4 feet, when it is actually more than 18 feet. I did the test 4 times before I realized that it was the Velo that caused the errors. When I removed the Velo and just used the Paradigm sub, ok na distance. The general rule is that if there is a big error in the distances that Audyssey detects, the problem is either ambient noise during the calibration or a blown speaker.
Ergo, watch "Flight of the Phoenix" at your own risk. ;D

The Haunting DTS ES
This one is gonna rock your sofas
-
Cloverfield
This is the deepest bass I have ever heard. I have 2 big subs that can go subsonic and there was very little audible bass you could hear and yet, my whole room was shaking like crazy. Kasi you can't hear subsonic bass (by its very definition).
It's actually kinda scary to play this movie at reference level cuz you could easily destroy your subs.
-
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
-
spiderman 1 superbit
-
can initial d 4th stage be considered as a good dvd to test LFE?
just bought a MS 409 last sunday (upgraded from the yamaha sub).
-
Another very good LFE test DVD: Rambo I. The claymore mine explosion. Incredible.
-
Watched lately Shooter and man this movie has lots of LFEs. The rifle shot was heavenly. Also the part where Wahlberg goes Rambo chased by a chopper when all of the bombs were activated. Shook my room considering that it's only DD! ;D
-
hmmm di ko pa napapanood ang shooter. :)
-
I just watched:
1. Finding Nemo (Chapter 25, the Darla scene); and
2. War of the Worlds (from the beginning until the lightning strikes 26 times scene)
Wow! What a difference a sub makes!
I was actually regretting buying War of the Worlds (I was thinking of Minority Report when I picked it up at one Astro sale) but if only for the lightning scenes, I'm keeping it!
-
for me... war of the worlds :D
