Do you still remember time slots and channels for Philippine television during the '70s and '80s? For example, during the late '70s, did Channel 7 show Muppet Show before the Donnie and Marie Show on Sundays, and did the station show Three's Company and The Benny Hill Show after that? And did Roald Dahl's Tales from the Unexpected appear right after an hour-long show (was it Quincy, ME)?
How about the following: My Favorite Martian, Mario (and his Machine?), Starsky and Hutch (Wednesdays?), the Rockford Files (Channel 13?), A-Team, The Greatest American Hero, Wait Til Your Father Gets Home (?), Joey and Son, Duplex, Iskul Bukol, Champoy, The Love Boat, The Knight Rider, CHiPs, the WWF, Soap, Barney Miller, MASH, Connections, Cosmos and World at War (late '70s, Channel 9?), Dukes of Hazard, Remington Steele, Sapphire and Steele (Channel 9 or 2?), The Avengers (Channel 13?), John en Marsha, Chicks to Chicks, etc?

You got them roughly in order, IF memory serves me right. I was a GMA-7 addict back then. The schedule was something like this (no guarantees... it's been 30 years, and I was in prep/grade school back then):
Mondays: 9:00 Barnaby Jones
Tuesdays: 9:00 Soap, 9:30 MASH
Wednesdays: 9:00? The Love Boat
Thursdays: 8:00? Eight is Enough (eventually moved to Saturdays)
Fridays: 8:00 The Hardy Boys, 9:00 Starsky and Hutch, 10:00 Petrocelli
Saturdays: 8:00 The Planet of the Apes/Little House on the Prairie, 9:00 Combat (I think...)
I know BBC-2 had "The Bionic Woman" on Tuesdays at 8?... but for the life of me, I cannot remember what day RPN-9 aired my favorite show at the time, "The Six Million Dollar Man."

Sapphire and Steel was on GMA-7. I remember watching it faithfully week after week, even though I could barely understand what was happening, and even more strangely, I kept expecting Dr. Who to pop up. ;D

I remember the series very well, when it was aired on Channel 9. It dealt more on urban legends, mysticism and the occult. Nothing about Jason Voorhees was ever depicted in the TV series.

That's what I originally thought... Why call it Friday the 13th when Jason is not around to save the day? But later, I became so engrossed with it... nice theme... find cursed artifacts and restore them in the vault.
Another TV series that I thought was good was "Shadow Chasers?" Something about a news reporter running after the supernatural.

This was a great series kahit medyo bitinang ending. Patakas ko pa to pinanonood nun kasi late night na. I was hoping to see all the elements come to life. Creepy and eerie ang dating kahit low tech ang special effects. I was fortunate enough to borrow the Region 2 DVD set from trekker. It's her most prized possesion.

I can imagine...somewhere in Hollywood, they are contemplating putting "The 6 Million Dollar Man" to the big screen (whatever happened...I think Will Farrell was attached to play Lt. Col. Steve "Not so Stone Cold" Austin, but methinks Steve Carell is more bagay for the role).
How about some stunt casting on the side...like wrestler "Stone Cold" Steve Austin laying his patented can of whup-a$$ on the Bionic Man for laying rights on his handle.

that is similar in some ways to lost, being a group of people stranded on an island. kaibahan lang e parang
they are from different time eras or dimensions. cannot recall everything really, all i can remember was
that one of the stars was jared martin and he sorta came from the future and he had this tuning fork
thingie and this girl who's name was liana or lleana or something and the thing i remember about her
back then was she looked like leah navarro. it aired over channel 7 tuesday evenings. cannot really
remember much about it but i liked it and was bummed that it got cancelled.

dont remember the ad on tv, remember la germania, but the thing i remember the most about
tv times were the posters. i know i still have some of them in the house somewhere, just dont know where to start to look...

Finally found a copy with Erik Estrada and Farrah Fawcett (inset photo) on the cover. Issue date is 30 April - 06 May 1978. It has 2 articles on Phil. TV's Silver Jubilee. :)

i actually found around 6 copies dating back to 1979 with donny and marie, leif garrett, cheryl ladd, robin
williams in his mork and mindy days on the covers. kaso wala na yung mga posters. the thing is the magazine

Gosh, I remember that I used to buy TV Times magazine religiously, mainly because of Farrah Fawcett-Majors. I even had copies of these until about the late 80s. Had to throw them out kasi nag-aamoy luma na 'yung cabinet ko.

I can't remember the Invisible Man that much. I think Man from Atlantis was shown on Channel 13? (How about the old Flipper series?)
Also, did we follow the U.S. Saturday programming format? I remember watching Shazam, Isis, Land of the Lost, and Sigmund and the Sea Monsters. Also, there was a time they showed My Favorite Martian Saturday mornings.

No no no... The Man From Atlantis (with Patrick Duffy and Belinda J. Montgomery) was definitely on GMA 7. It was on Mondays at 8PM, before (or was it after?) CHiPs at 9PM. THEN came Barnaby Jones at 10PM pala. ;D

UFO was shown on Channel 5. Noontime - Sundays I think. Then later reruns were shown on Channel 9.
Stingray was on Channel 13 - afternoons.
Channel 5 also showed Gigantor.... and Jonny Quest.

LOL, that's right! I fondly remember Space:1999--in fact, I liked it a lot, because of the sets, the stories where mostly they did a lot of talking, and its bizarre, impossible premise of the moon breaking away from earth's orbit and travelling into deep space.
At school, avid Star trek fanatics hated it, but I liked it better than Star Trek, and liked it even more when they introduced Maya in season 2.
As for UFO, wasn't that the granddaddy of all scifi shows? And also the spiritual predecessor of Space:1999 (same creators/producers), but UFO had way more cooler vehicles and concepts (moonbase, SHADO, interceptors, etc.). If I remember right, the aliens breathe some kind of black liquid, and their ships were kinda cool. The entire UFO series is also available in expensive DVD sets. 8)

ng movie na i cannot recall the title starring dennis quaid and martin short. this series was a totally different one.

If the review starts with this sentence "Maryo de los Reyes was good in High School Circa 65 and great in Gabun. But he cannot compensate for the inferior material in Annie Batungbakal." early to mid-80s...
i fondly remember getting up early on saturdays to catch the Saturday Fun Machine on channel 9... sunod-sunod na cartoons, kasama na yung Superfriends ;D
isama na rin natin ang mga ito:
That's Entertainment on weekdays (saturday was the day for those production numbers, where the thursday group would always win the best presentation).
Old pinoy movies on channel 9 after eat bulaga (sampaguita and lvn movies where I learned about the ibong adarna, cofradia, etc).
Weekdays at 10:00 am, Sesame with Kuya Mario, Ate Sienna, and others, later renamed Batibot
Weekdays at 4:00 pm on channel 4 was the show with the lady who did crafts (name of the show escapes me now, but it's the show after which Negosiete was patterned) / or at channel 2, The Three Stooges.
Tuesdays (or was that Mondays?) at 7pm on Ch 7 - 21 Jump Street
Wednesdays at 7pm on Ch7 - Mission Impossible
Saturdays at 7pm on Ch 9 was MacGyver
Sundays after the GMA Supershow was Lovingly Yours, Helen
and lest we forget, Flor de Luna on Ch 9 and Anna Liza on Ch 7... Dallas and Dynasty na rin...
late 80s were the mini-series on Ch 9 like Boracay, Davao, etc...
tapos wala pang cable non, so pinaka-cable na namin yung TV station ng Clark Airbase where I watched Jeopardy... pinagti-tyagaan kahit malabo...

where the kids get to play parlor games and win all those awesome toys.
Grabe ang inggit ko sa mga batang iyon... ;D especially when there's this kid who got a Macross Veritech fighter model... Paborito ko pa namang anime yung Macross dati...Arrgh!!!!

Does anyone remember that B&W Filipino movie that stars Jose Mari Gonzalez (I think) with Dolphy and Panchito in secondary roles? It's a take on R.S. Stevenson's "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde". They showed it on Channel 9 (I think) several times (together with Omega Man a few years earlier).
About FEN, they showed something like two sitcoms a day (many of them shown only a week earlier in the States), an action or drama series after, followed by a movie or sports. They also had Mr. Rogers, Degrassi High, Square Pegs, and other kids' and teens' shows during the afternoon, a special during the weekend (a movie, Elvira's horror show, SNL, or WWF Main Event), and more. Weekdays at 4:00 pm on channel 4 was the show with the lady who did crafts (name of the show escapes me now, but it's the show after which Negosiete was patterned) / or at channel 2, The Three Stooges.
Tuesdays (or was that Mondays?) at 7pm on Ch 7 - 21 Jump Street
Wednesdays at 7pm on Ch7 - Mission Impossible
Saturdays at 7pm on Ch 9 was MacGyver

In the late 1970s, Sesame Street was on Channel 9. It was shown without commercial interruptions, with only a Toyota commercial before and after the show. 9AM with a 4PM replay yata. I'm not positive, but I believe The Electric Company was on Channel 2.
How about the British action series The Professionals?

You have the channels right for Chico & the Man, Maude, Joey and Son and Chicks to Chicks. Welcome Back, Kotter was on Channel 9, Taxi was on 2, Duplex was on 9 on Saturdays at 9pm yata (sometime after Kaluskos Musmos).
Since we've covered a few kids shows, does anyone here remember The New Mickey Mouse Club on Channel 9? It aired during weekend afternoons. Not the version with Britney Spears and N-Sync, but the one with Lisa Whelchel and Nita, Todd, Shawntee, Scott, Mindy, Pop, Allison, Curtis and Kelly? Wow... I remember A LOT of their names! ;D
And you're right about FEN. I would GLADLY give up my entire SkyCable line-up for that channel. It had practically everything - recent series, SNL, sports, films, Jeopardy!, Phil Donahue/Oprah, Carson/Letterman, Nightline, soaps... name it! But back then, there were only 3 (going on 4) major networks in the States. With the now full line-up of FOX and with UPN/The WB currently in existence, I think they'd need a second channel to cover the same percentage of TV shows as they used to.
Again... why all the interest, ralfy? Just nostalgic... or are YOU interested in creating that site you were talking about earlier? :)

For Pinoy shows, I remember Prinsipe Abante (did it star Bert Marcelo, and based on the older Prinsipe Amante radio program?), Uncle Bob's Lucky 7 Club (Sunday mornings? found out that Uncle Bob used to own the company from which GMA was formed), some sitcoms that are still being shown on Channel 9 (which I have not seen for some time due to the proliferation of cable channels; esp. John en Marsha which they showed briefly after Nida Blanca's and Dely Atay-Atayan's demise, and I think the sitcom with Quizon and Redford White) and Channel 13 (Iskul Bukol a few years ago).
About AOL TV, has anyone been able to view some of the shows. I can't but I was able to download a high-quality versions of the first episode of "Eight is Enough", though (DRM-protected); I didn't continue because I became impatient (I just wanted to view the streaming version).

I can't remember Flash Gordon (I grew up with Japanese cartoons during those time slots) and Channel 5 was gone by then. I do remember watching My Favorite Martian Saturday mornings (I think the afternoon was filled with Sigmund, etc., Shazam, the Mighty Isis, and so forth). Was My Favorite Martian on Channel 5? Also, dad used to watch Hopalong Cassidy and the Lone Ranger (did they show the latter on Channel 13 later?). There was also Showcase (Channel 13), shown during those hot afternoons, but I can't remember if they showed Rockford Files after that or only during the evenings.
Where did they show the Logan's Run series? I also remember watching the Planet of the Apes TV series. There was also Land of the Giants, the Time Tunnel, etc.

I WON'T comment on the precise schedules because what's the point anyway of bringing it up, what's essential are the show themselves and the way we were. My most resonating memory on the choices timeslot for me then is between 10 am to 12 pm in 1981. Thats the time where one finds CAFETERIA AROMA with the late APENG DALDAL (no other comedy show has topped this one obscure laughter-fest in my book). By 11 am, I switched the channel to RPN 9 to get mystified by IN SEARCH OF.... - an investigative program on the supernatural, the strange, the weird, the unexplained. It talks of such topics like UFOs, ancient astronauts, magic, the occult, missing persons, Fortean phenomenas, and some such weirdness. By 12 pm, most Filipinos doesn't have much TV choice then but to choose between two main variety shows, STUDENT CANTEEN & EAT BULAGA. The Eat Bulaga trio is the certified progenitor of vulgarity, swardspeak, street/kanto language, bawdy/double entendre songs and scoundrel behavior on TV. They even raped a poor "bold" starlet named PEPSI PALOMA in around 1985 of which they were haled to court, but the case has been pending for the last 23 or so years - NEVER DISMISSED - because, one, Paloma has committed suicide shortly thererafter because of the trauma and her inability to gain justice; and two, as a result of Paloma's death, then lawyer RENE CAYETANO who represented her pro bono, could not effectively pressed for the case. The "ungas" trio also has powerful backers & connections. But in the second quarter of 1981, Eat Bulaga, amidst the execrable characters of its hosts, has given me an embarrassing source of pleasure - the CARRIBEAN DISCO SHOW DANCE CONTEST. This is that obscure, totally-forgotten-in-time, short-lived dance contest where a lovely lady dances with smoldering Latina flourish to the tune of Lobo's "Carribean Disco Show Medley." Remember that? "Come Mr. Tally Man, Tally the Banana, Daylight Come & We Wanna Go Home...." I even skipped school just to catch that contest during its entire season run. It was just a hilarious contest, nothing more nothing less. But two decades later, I came to realized that what those ladies were doing is copy the 1950s Argentinian star CARMEN MIRANDA in her exaggerated customes and choreography, the only thing they skipped doing is to quote Miranda's famous line, "Banana is my business." At the very least the contest has a vague Broadway/Hollywood pedigree or at least pretensions. Today, Eat Bulaga still holds dance contests - but the inspirations is borned out more by the shameful Japayuki and burlesque cultures.
On early evenings, you catch CHAMPOY with Subas & Noel. Very well-written & thought-out jokes & skits, no green, bawdy stuff. Just decent, dignified laughter inducers that doesn't resort to the toilet or the bodoir. In our province by the time Champoy airs, we can't view it anymore in color because the voltage steps down to 150watts and when that happens the TV becomes momentarily black & white with distorted signals. By 7 pm, all channels air the news - and that's actually a decree by President Marcos. I had no problem with that, 7 pm primetime just seemed to be the best time to air the news.
On Friday late evenings in the same years (1981 to around 1984) if I remember it right, the most anticipated program I hold unto is AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING. It begins around 10 pm, right after reruns of the 1960's AVENGERS. I remember closely the grapplers of old: Tony Atlas, Andre The Giant, Pedro Morales, Antonio Inoke and many other superstars.
Thats how I remember the old TV timeslots. And I also got my Spiderman drawing printed inside the pages of the TV GUIDE. The old days were indeed better.....

I can actually find the exact schedules (which includes the number of seasons and other details) by just looking at old newspapers at the uni lib but I'm too lazy to do that at the moment. It's very interesting to look not only at the schedules but at other details because they add more to my memories. For example, I do remember seeing Wednesday as an important day, but I don't know if it was because Starsky and Hutch was shown on that day. The strange thing, though, is that I saw several episodes but can hardly remember the show today. I do remember SWAT, though, and I think it was shown weekend afternoons on Channel 2. Finally, they might help those who want to add more details on Pinoy shows in www.imdb.com, where I could not not find an entry for "Eh Kasi Babae".

I didn't realize that "In Search of..." was on Channel 9, and I remember watching it during the early afternoon. I also wonder if Saturday programming followed what was done in the U.S., i.e., show programs mostly for kids. My earliest moment I remember watching TV was "My Favorite Martian" on Channel 5 (probably) around mid-morning (I think). It was a large Radio-something or Wealth-something TV with a wooden curtain that could cover the screen and vacuum tubes inside the set. I only got to see watch color TV only in the late '70s, it was a small set in a neighbor's house.
About Eat Bulaga, I think I remember one of the first times it was shown on Channel 9. Was it the one where Chiqui Hollman celebrated her birthday? I'm not sure but was Richie da Horsie also a co-host? What's with the "Ahas! Sawa!" expression? And did they have a nunchuk contest in this program or was it in Student Canteen?
I'm not sure about the Carribean disco show: did all of the contestants wear plastic fruits on their head or something like that? Did this take place during the same period when Dance Fever was shown on Channel 7?
I definitely remember Champoy but I can't remember if it was shown during the same years as Kaluskos Musmos.
I definitely remember the news programs: it was Harry Gasser on Channel 9 (I just found out that Newswatch was shown for nearly 50 years!). Was it Tina Palma on Channel 7? Who was on Channel 4? I also can't remember if commercials were shown. I'm not sure, but I think these were not allowed because the government argued that news was supposed to be a free public service offered by broadcasters. Finally, I'm reminded of Ariel Ureta and the statement, “Sa ikauunlad ng bayan, bisikleta ang kailangan.” In which program did this take place?
I remember wrestling shows on Channel 13 but not the times or days of the week. Maybe it was Friday since were were shown as late as 10 pm, and I could only stay up late outside school nights. (The exception, I think, was Sunday, where I was allowed to watch "Three's Company" and "The Benny Hill Show" on Channel 7. I remember sneaking down later to watch "Tales of the Unexpected.") ^Palibhasa Lalake was funny, until it "jumped the shark" when they started adding a lot of up and coming teen stars na otherwise walang mapaglagyan ang network (e.g the "gwapings"). A practice na way too common in TV sitcoms nowadays it seems.

CAFETERIA AROMA of Apeng Daldal, Meniong Villegas & company remains a true classic....in my memory. The laughs were not elicited by trying hard - for example in another show, Dyords Javier brings a piece of petrified chicharong bulaklak to "prop" a joke (that fell flat), or splicing the script with repartees (that almost always falls flat) between Nanette Inventor and Mitch Valdes. It was almost effortless, the laughable situations and dialogues simply flows over, I remember one line: Mamaya niyan mabubugbug mo na naman si Mare (a double entendre). I find it funny three decades later that when the nuns running our school has some administrative thing to do and they'd stopped the school for a day by 10 am - I'd rushed home too eagerly to watch the 11 am C. Aroma. Too bad Apeng died too young, and the show's archival tapes might be beyond salvaging. I still missed it, and would very much like to see it again.
One more show that airs at the same season in the early 80's was SAPAK TALAGA. Runs at 5 pm and is only 15 minutes long. Yes, just a quarter of an hour show that came off like an hour of joyful entertainment because at that time commercials were not being rammed our throats like enema to anus in our time. Sapak starred the late Joel Alano and Tessie Tomas and other characters thats obliterated in the memory. Joel is an INK follower and a promising actor but he died too young from natural causes. On the other hand, Tomas is still around and astounding is her career longevity. Sapak has brilliant timing and truly "funny knock, knock, who's there" sort of jokes.
In my books, nothing has been subsequently made in comedic sitcoms that surpasses these two's laugh-a-minute craziness, except that of Champoy circa 1981-1983....

Seems to me like walang efforts ang local networks natin to do any archiving of sorts. Sayang nga yung mga classics from previous decades, na definitely way better than the (mostly) trash we see on local TV nowadays.
