As for me, I only have Gump on DVD. The rest are VHS origs.

Post by: X44 on Mar 10, 2003 at 10:49 PM: Don't agree with Oscar very often so the closest to a Best Picture I have in my collection is Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon which won the Best Foreign Film statuette. I also have The Godfather Part 2 on VHS. I haven't gotten the box set yet. Not until I get over not wanting to own that horrible third movie.

I do have two winners on my wish list: Unforgiven and The Apartment. Both undisputed heavyweight champion masterpieces.

I did have Silence of the Lambs but I gave it to my Dad. Not such a big fan of that one, either.

Only the ff. titles are not in my collection so far, and the reasons for not having them, viz:

1. Wings (1928) - not yet released on dvd
2. The Broadway Melody (1929) - not yet released on dvd
3. Cimarron (1931) - not yet released on dvd
4. Grand Hotel (1932) - already ordered w/ sir darius of warners but not yet recieved
5. Cavalcade (1933) - not yet released on dvd
6. Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) - same as Grand Hotel
7. The Great Ziegfeld (1936) - same as Grand Hotel
8. The Life of Emile Zola - not yet released on dvd
9. Mrs. Miniver (1942) - same as Grand Hotel
10. The Greatest Show on Earth (1952) - soon to be released on 4/06/04

it's just sad that the Chicago available here is from star records. i just don't want to buy it. Million Dollar Baby is not released on DVD here. A Beautiful Mind is still on the market, but i'm waiting for a new edition. From Here to Eternity is also available, but i want a good edition. Gandhi is about php500 only. Terms of Endearment is an old DVD so i'm waiting for a new release.

i'm hoping for Titanic to be released here by October 26. Ben-Hur is now available in the astro stores.

i've noticed that you put on a (didn't know this won the best pix-hehehe) in LOTR ROTK. actually, i felt the same way too. however, i realized that the film "MUST WIN" the best pix, in order to compensate for the loss in LOTR TFOTR, and for the tremendous effort that the producers/cast/crew gave to entertain and inspire audiences.

the trilogy is so much better than some other films that won the best pix. so the win by ROTK, is not just for ROTK, it's for the whole trilogy. this is just my opinion. hehe.

welcome aboard......i'd been into collecting oscar's best pics since 1999 & yup, lots of my r1 DVDs were bought on-line, but you may also find a lot of these titles at pinoyDVD marketplace, minsan mas mura pa doon :).......patience is a virtue ika nga, before you know it you're now earning lots of moolah to finance our hobby 8).......buti ka nga estudyante palang eh nakakabili ka na ng DVDs, ako dati nag-aarkila lang ng betamax tapes & from that you can approximate my age, hehehe ;D

i rarely watch any film that wins the best pix kasi...but i loooovveee the LOTR Trilogy! for me, its a very good adaptation of the book. :)

i think it is, at least the earlier batches for this SE release, am not sure lang for the recent batch ::)......kasi sa r3 yung initial batches were in digipak pero yung mga bago hindi na :(

maganda lang yung gold color ng slipcase but the slipcase itself is too thin and flimsy and looks really cheap. :( I believe these are repackaged items.

Anyway, I never gave any thought as to how many of my DVDs/BDs were Oscar best picture winners but upon checking, here's the few that I found:

2001 - Gladiator (BD steelbook)
2003 - Chicago
2004 - LOTR ROTK
2007 - The Departed (steelbook)
2008 - No Country for Old Men

2003 - “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”
2005 - “Crash”
2006 - “The Departed”

Would like to add a lot more but I've watched the other winners to death in earlier formats - VHS & VCD so I'll order the likes of Platoon, Silence Of The Lambs, Gandhi, Rain Man, The Deer Hunter & The Godfather I & II etc. once I sorely miss them.
