Does anyone here remember these feature length historical (non-musical) movies that Armida produced for Aawitan Kita?
Dung-aw -- my favorite, I may be mistaken but Lino may have directed this one -- about Gabriela Silang. I believe "dung-aw" is a dirge, and the movie opens with images of Ilocano women in mourning. Romy Vitug served as DP and he did one of his best works here, shooting breathtaking vistas of desolate Ilocandia dunes.
Lakambini at Supremo -- about Andres Bonifacio and his wife, it's a blur
Sisa -- this one had an ominous darkness and a tropical Gothic quality, but ultimately ruined by unconvincing mad scenes.
I believe there were a few more.
Presumably because of a wealth of government funding, these were some of the best crafted feature films to come out of the industry. Technically they were first-rate, production design was as authentic as it got, and most of the talents came from the PETA stable. The end results themselves were a mixed bag, bogged down by speechifying and myth-making. Dung-aw though had some of the most powerful images I've seen in our movies.

Dung aw is Lino, with a script by Mario O.
I'd love to see that.

Armida & Lino had a tumultous, love-hate relationship. Both of them fought for censorship.

Armida has a 16mm print in her impressive home archive...

Cool. She use a cane now, but still feisty after all these years.

If I ever show up, I know what she'll want to do with that cane! :o

LOL! Ask her to go on producing more quality movies and proceed with Carlito's film version of LARAWAN. ;)

I talked to him about that. I said what he should do is horror--maybe a remake of Turn of the Screw. For some reason Henry James becomes him.

Its about time Carlitos should make a comeback. And speaking of BIbeth Orteza, I hope she's now ok.

I hope so. Breast cancer has the best chance of recovery.
