Title: VIVA's Award Winning Homegrown Movies: Php 150 ONLY!
Post by: Mr. Hankey on Jul 09, 2006 at 02:14 PM
Viva has released a bunch of critically-acclaimed Filipino films at the really bargain price of Php 199 each. You'll easily recognize these titles as they have uniform packaging - silver jacket with "Award Winning Homegrown Movie" banner at the top, a box with the film's poster in the center, then a list of the film's awards at the bottom of the front cover.

Among the titles I saw:

Batch '81 (http://pinoydvd.com/board/Themes/mercury/images/post/thumbup.gif)

Bayaning 3rd World

Minsa'y Isang Gamu-Gamo

Miguelito: Ang Batang Rebelde

Ipagpatawad Mo

Narito Ang Puso Ko

Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak

Imortal

Saan Nagtatago Ang Pag-Ibig

Sinasamba Kita

Magdusa Ka

Filipinas

Boy Negro  ???

I also saw, Bulaklak ng Maynila, how is it different from the first release? no specs printed on the back. Are the special features from the first release retained.

I don't have specific information for that title, but I doubt it, since I bought six of these titles yesterday, and they're all completely barebones with uniform menus. All they have is a "Play" button and a "Chapter" button with 6 scenes to choose from.

I should have bought the first release, I saw it once, selling for 150pesos. I bought Babae sa Breakwater for 150pesos  instead, had limited cash that time, had to choose one item. Sayang.

Thanks for that info, sir.  :)

How are these DVDs?  DVD5 and widescreen?  (As if we have a choice)... :)

DVD5 and FULL screen. Picture quality varies per movie. The Bayaning 3rd World is excellent - with its black and white cinematography looking crisp and clear on video, while Batch '81 looks like my old original Beta copy - a bit too dark during certain scenes. Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak looks sort of cloudy throughout the film - like a faded old VHS copy was transcoded to DVD.

Here's a review (http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=54766.0) of the Batch '81 disc with screencaps from the disc.

IT looks like a Tipid DVD Collection. Nothing special. Just like 2 VCD's transferred into DVDs. I alredy got Minsa'y ISang Gamu-gamo.

Miguelito: Ang Batang Rebelde

^^ are these titles previously released by Viva? with a better looking cover?

if not might as well, settle for them. mabuti nang meron kaysa sa wala, diba?  ;D

If these were like the Ilusyon DVD release. with the well designed animated menus and features, Ok na Ok. kahit na 375, papakyawin ko.

Bought my first title from this catalogue... Minsa'y Isang Gamugamo. Picture quality is from good to bad, colors are faded. No credits, i'm not sure if it was originally shown that way.

Bought Tikoy Aguiluz's Segurista for 150pesos.

Alot of the titles in this catalog deserves better treatment. Oh well. Better than nothing, i guess.  :P

Hindi ba maganda ang pagka transfer ng Segurista?

Hindi ba maganda ang pagka transfer ng Segurista?

i'm not really an expert, but, the colors are uneven.

And side, note, just opened my copy last night, and guess what, the movie freezes on a lot of the latter scenes. Geez. I have to return this one.  :P

I grabbed a copy of "Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak". The picture was a little cloudy nga. I'd prefer the one being shown in Cinema One.

i think that they are just selling the last few copies. some may be repackaged, though. that's why i'm trying to get my hands on the titles i want to have with their 199 buy 1 take 1 scheme.

salamat sa info jekoy :) ako rin nga dati iniisnab ko hehe. pero kung kelan nagsisipag-ubusan, saka naman ako naghahanap.

and yes, some are being repackaged. i saw some at astro sm north. some fpj and sharon cuneta titles are now in thin digipak cases (parang yung old sharon 2-in-1 series nila). they even have the eco-friendly series - dvds are housed in cardboard sleeves for 150 each. parang di ko yata type yung ganung case.

oo mahirap na humanap ng bridal shower and bikini open na dvds. i got mine kasi a long time ago nung unang release. natuwa kasi ako sa movies hehe
