Title: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Post by: AshKetchum on Mar 20, 2007 at 08:41 AM
Currently in development for FOX TV is a pilot/possible TV series called The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which follows the events after the Terminator 2: Judgement Day movie. Lena Headey (300) has been cast as Sarah, while Thomas Dekker (Heroes) is playing the teenage John Connor. The series is produced by Mario Kassar and Andrew G. Vajna, who were producers of the Terminator films.

This should be interesting--according to the producers, they're also making a 4th Terminator movie, and this series will somehow connect to that movie, as well as provide links to the 3rd movie, Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines.

Firefly's Summer Glau and The Nine's Owain Yeoman are both signed up for the pilot.

Just finished watching the pilot. David Nutter (Traveler) directed a very suspenseful pilot. Although Lena Headey could not live up to Linda Hamilton's intense incarnation of Sarah Connor, her take on the character is more suitable for the medium of television.

Firefly's Summer Glau and The Nine's Owain Yeoman are both signed up for the pilot.

When these two started kicking ass, I was euphoric especially for Summer since she's underused in The 4400.

It was acquired by Solar. I'm guessing it'll probably be on Crime/Suspense in the very near future.

what is it with james cameron sequels, that hollywood has to botch up a perfect sequel with a lame-o third arc. i.e, t2: judgment day with t3; rise of the machines.  aliens with the downer alien 3.
now they come up with this series to further confuse the terminator mythology.

Agree with T3 but only that it was unnecessary. Other than that, it was an OK piece of work by Mostow. The chase scenes there are the kind of action eyecandy I like. There's a real sense of danger. Makes Michael Bay look like Baldo Marro. Kinda wished Schwarzenegger played the villain though. The first Terminator is still the best of the bunch. T2 was a little overproduced.

Alien 3 though I keep recommending to everyone who ignored it. David Fincher got crucified for this by geeks planetwide but I personally think he didn't deserve the flak. Flawed for sure but well worth a rewatch, if only for that sense of dread. Interesting script by Vincent Ward, who made the terrific and underrated time travel adventure The Navigator. Parts of it I like far better than both Ridley Scott's and James Cameron's Aliens.

The classroom shooting scene was shown during the premiere last Monday.

Ohnga, nag-time travel pa sila (Sarah, John & Cameron) from 1999 to the present...doon nawalan sila ng damit (just as in the Schwarzenegger Terminator movies) .  What a treat for fanboys.

Well hopefully the BD version would be out soon but in case you are in the vicinity of Pasig, my wife is returning to Manila sa first week of June with her 500GB external drives filled with new HD contents..   You may bring 3 blank DVD-Rs at my place sa Pasig and I'll copy you the 9 episodes...free...spread the high def blessings kahit papaano..he he he

Cant wait for the 2nd season.  Hopefully it comes back kahit medyo mababa rating towards the end of the 1st season.

From IMDB FAQs  ;D

How is Terminator 3 related to this series?
It isn't. Sarah Connor Chronicles will be a reboot of the Terminator universe's continuity, starting from where Terminator 2 left off. Series creator Josh Friedman says that the reason for this is that Sarah Connor is a vital component of the series, and her absence from T3 was a major factor in fans not taking to it. He describes SCC as an alternate timeline.

in the trilogy, T3 was supposedly the first re-appearance of a terminator from the T2 timeline.

John was way older ion T3 than in the current TV series

After watching the pilot and the discussion about Dyson, I was wondering: Why would killing one man (John Connor) destroy the resistance? He can't be so special that someone won't just take his place. Heck, if killing the man who created Skynet does not stop Skynet from being built, then surely John's an even less vital person than that.

Oh, and they shouldn't have been able to carry Summer on to the chair when she was knocked out. She should weigh a ton, regardless of her size.

But I liked the first couple of episodes. The action's good. And I wanna see where this goes.

Exactly. Also, I don't get it how can Cameron act very human when she first met John. Then after revealing that she's a Terminator, she's suddenly robotic. If she's an upgrade and has that ability, why not use it always? Anyway, I just try to ignore these.

I hope they start Season 2 very soon cause I'm hooked  ;)  Great season ender IMO

Yup, this one, too. I understand it's a bit of a misdirect for the viewers but wasn't it already heavily promoted that she was going to play a Terminator? So don't get much point in that.

But yes, these are nitpicking and over all I like the series.

I've watched until the 3rd episode...it's been great so far, except for some inconsistencies: if Cameron acted like a regular schoolgirl in the Pilot, managing to fool even John, then why does she act all robotic in their new school?

Thinking about time travel hurts my head...and while the gang's leap to 2007 seems possible, won't they run into their future counterparts living in that era?

Title: Re: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Post by: d4nu65+3R on Apr 23, 2008 at 11:12 AM
im finding the storyline getting too convoluted for my taste, too many terminator models running around . i dont know if it's just me but there seems to be too much talk rather than action, and if you thought about it, because of the 2007 jump, there should be 2 john connors running around.  i need a pen and paper to explain really.
Title: Re: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Post by: sardaukar on Apr 23, 2008 at 06:19 PM
Following "conventional" rules of time travel, there will be no "future" John and Sarah in 2007 because they never go back to 1999 (was it 1999?).

But if, for example, their trip to 2007 was only temporary and they go back to 1999, then, 8 years later, they might see their "past" selves running around in 2007.

It's hard to explain, hope I made some sense.

This one's pretty good. The last few episodes really picked up the pace.I never thought I'd say this but Lena Heady gives Linda Hamilton a run for her money as Sarah Connor. Iba yung appeal ni Lena, my gash. Summer Glau's great too. Even though she's playing a cyborg, her grace and fluid movement really shines through. Advantage talaga yung ballet background niya. Looking forward to next season.

there's no future john and sarah because they literally jumped to 2007 from 1999., meaning, they skipped the years 2000-2006.  much like being transferred from the first coach of a train to the third without going through the second coach. something like that.

but, if i follow your second example of them going back to 99 and move forward through time, isnt it safe to assume that the future they left would now be what you call a different timeline. ang gulo no?

From Comics Continuum: (text with spoilers was removed)  ;D

"Fox has picked up 13 episodes of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles for the 2008-2009 television season.

Brian Green, who guest-starred as Derek in the final episodes of Season 1, will become a cast regular, joining Lena Headey (Sarah), Summer Glau (Cameron) and Thomas Dekker (John).

The show currently ranks as the No. 1 new scripted series this season among Adults 18-49.

Produced by C2 Pictures in association with Warner Bros. Television, the show is executive produced by Josh Friedman and John Wirth. James Middleton serves as consulting producer, with Toni Graphia serves as co-executive producer and Natalie Chaidez as a consulting producer."

Possible that the other one becomes an alternate reality, yes. A universe where every possible change/decision, branches off into a different reality with all possibilities existing side by side. But usually, in time travel stories, people stay in the universe they left/went to. Where changes they make in the past affect future events. Otherwise, it becomes less satisfying from a story telling point of view if things don't eventually show results of past actions.

Garbage's Manson Joins Connor

Shirley Manson, leader singer of the pop band Garbage, has taken a regular role next season on Fox's Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Scottish musician will play Catherine Weaver, the chief executive of a cutting-edge high-tech company, the trade paper reported.

Sarah Connor Chronicles is returning for a second season in the fall after launching in midseason as the highest-rated new scripted series of the 2007-'08 season.

It stars Lena Headey as Sarah Connor, Thomas Dekker as her son, John Connor, and Summer Glau as terminator Cameron Phillips.

I finally caught up with the current episode over the weekend.  I've been reading a bunch of comments on other sites and one of the theories bouncing around that I find intriguing is the possibility that Weaver's plan is defeat and replace Skynet with a more developed robot faction.

BTW, any ideas who this "brother" could be (the one with the terminator blueprints)? Cromartie/John Henry perhaps?

Sorry, still ambiguous to me -- especially since Jessie wasn't even wearing a jacket during that pivotal scene. She was wearing a plaid shirt.

And unfortunately, we might never know because it looks like there won't be a third season.

Yup, looks like it. Lena Headey, Thomas Dekker and Summer Glau all want a third season but chances of it happening are quite slim at this point.

Kick ass finale.  ;D Several days after first watching the episode, it still lingers and makes the first two movies even better. Hehe...  ;)

It's official: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles has been um, terminated.

FOX has announced that the show has been cancelled. A snippet from Entertainment Weekly:
"[Sarah Connor] has completed its run," Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly confirmed at a press conference this morning. "I think it had a nice little run. It was a good show. It was not an either or [with Dollhouse]. We did see it tailing off a bit [in the ratings]. It had a nice creative core, but, ultimately, we made the bet on Dollhouse, so that's it for [Sarah Connor]... We make no apologies. We gave it a lot of support and some consistent scheduling. We tried and thought it was time to move on."

Wow, talk about an arrogant, lame announcement. Maybe J.J. Abrams should've handled the franchise...

What can one expect from a company whose bread and butter is American Idol?

Likewise, with Terminator: Salvation opening next week (if it hasn't already), won't it cause viewer fatigue on their part?

Right now, one of the best reasons I tune in to TSCC is Stephanie Jacobsen. I love how she looks and that barely concealed Australian accent.

At least Stephanie can still use her working visa in Melrose Place...she has just joined the cast of the relaunched 90210 spin-off along with Ashlee Simpson-Wentz.

FOX! Darn it! Every series I love they cancel: Firefly, Arrested Development, Dollhouse.

Don't you dare cancel Glee!
