Anyone else watch Showtime's show Dexter? I just started and it seems promising. Only 12 episodes for the first season. I totally did not recognize Michael Hall!
If you're not familiar with the show here's a brief description:
Based on Jeff Lindsay's novels Darkly Dreaming Dexter and Dearly Devoted Dexter this crime thriller follows Dexter Morgan. Dexter is a forensic blood spatter expert for the Miami Dade Police Department. He is the main support for his sister. He has a steady girlfriend, with two kids who adore him. He also has an active "night life". Based on a code instilled in him by his foster father, Harry, he hunts down people who have escaped justice and makes sure they don't get away with a crime again.

I've seen the first season already. It's one of the most original shows to debut last year. It was rewarding to see it through its entirety. I only have a minor pet peeve: the actress playing his sister.

This is next on my DVD catch up list, so I can join your discussions soon. I was supposed to start it today, but I got sucked into Showtime's Dexter instead. I love the premise - a serial killer who kills... serial killers! ;D

Dexter is surely addictive. Michael C. Hall was robbed at the Emmys this year. Hated his character in Six Feet Under but he is really mesmerizing in this one. If I'm not mistaken the first two episodes of season two are already available. ;D

This gem of a show has one of the most simple and direct tag lines ever. Takes life. Seriously. ;D

Caught a few episodes of the first season and it's definitely intriguing. Michael Hall's virtually unreciognaizable from 6 Feet.

Brilliant first season. I was about to order the book from Amazon, but the reviews mostly said the series vastly improved the book, so I passed instead.

just watched 1 episode. had no idea what the show was about, just recognized the lead from Six Feet Under. holy crap! i can't believe this is being shown on tv. yey! something to look forward to.

Just finished Season 2 premiere, and it looks like it's way better than the Season 1 plot. My only problem, I think this will be their biggest case. I even thought it'll be reserved for the season finale. So what can the writers offer next after this?

This is a very dark but great series. My stomach aches after watching an episode but you get stick with it becasue it's interesting.

I'm a big fan of the show, but I have to admit Season 3 was a bore until the Dexter-Miguel conflict. Too bad it lasted for a few episodes only.

Yup, but the skinner only appeared half way of the season. He was no contention compared to the season 1 serial killer and the storyline on season 2. I didn't find that much conflict and suspense for season 3. Unlike in season 2 where i was after the next episode to make sure he wasnt caught.
Oh well, i guess i was expecting too much. But it was overall ok. Not much steamy scenes though. :P

I was hoping they'd focus more on Miguel, but even the DA was no challenge for Dexter. A major serial killer storyline has already been used in Season 1, and partially in Season 2. At least they've tried to change that in Season 3. Can't wait for Season 4 when Deb starts to connect the dots. To kill or not to kill the sister... ::)

Actually maganda naman Desperate Housewives I like it just like Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice but I prefer 24 or Dexter because mas may action and suspense. But Julie Benz's addition to DH makes it more engaging to me now :P

tama ba, if recall correctly 1) ice truck killer which got me hooked already, 2) dokes and lila who showed a lot of skin. 3) jimmy smits finding freebo and 4) trinity kiler and courtney ford :o which also showed a lot of skin! and julie benz. yun nga lang all died last season.
can't wait for the next twist!

Just finished Season 4. I think I should have stayed away from reading the reviews since all of them give away the ending which should have been a surprise. Nonetheless, even though you know its coming, the way it was done still has quite an impact. :'( I do wonder who the audience is more sad for. Dexter or Rita?
I really wish the releases for the DVD or Bluray sets were much faster so that I can watch the episodes on my time.
Also, Michael C. Hall has become one of my favorite actors because of Dexter. I can't wait for season 5 myself but as much as I want the series to continue, I don't know how much more they can continue to stretch the concept as the writers can only go so far in a series that continues to stretch boundaries. Stretch too far, it will become a parody.
I hope this series doesn't end up like Nip/Tuck which went downhill after Season 3.

Tidbit about the other possible ending from the article.
I understand you wrote two endings to throw people off. What was the other ending?
PHILLIPS: While Dexter was packing to leave, he saw on the television that a child murderer had just escaped from prison. Either escaped or fallen thru the cracks. So he's thinking, "Do I join Rita on vacation or do I and then he looks towards the camera and he has this big decision.
In my opinion, that ending would have been good but not memorable.

Season Premiere: 9/26/10
Much like the way Dexter was emotionally shaken coming out of Season 1, Season 5 of Dexter feels a bit like Season 2. Did that make sense? What we mean is that this season will primarily focus in Dexter coming to terms with his own guilty conscience while trying to evade capture by his own co-workers at Miami Metro – with Quinn now sliding into the old Doakes role. Sometimes we still wish that this series had saved its Season 2 "Bay Harbor Butcher" storyline until now as that tale really felt like a later season arc. But now that Dexter seems to be truly hollowed out – as a man who tried to live a normal life and failed miserably – will the Butcher return in some form in the media?
Packed with guest stars like Julia Stiles, Jonny Lee Miller, Chris Vance and Peter Weller, Season 5 might not have a definitive "big bad" for Dexter to slay, but it will most certainly keep us busy.

Just watch S5 EP1, quite ironic about the funeral home scene as it reminds me of 6 feet under. Dexter telling the kids and the grandparents about Rita's death is a classic scene.

This season (6) was good but i think the best season is still the Trinity Killer season.
I just hope the writers can top the Trinity Killer season since Dexter will be ending after season 8 unless they go the "Smallville" way where the series got extended and extended until it reached season 10...which i watched (all seasons) as well...ehhe!

just finished watching season 7 and after reading some fb updates regarding this season i thought this would be last one. ano na kaya mangyayari sa susunod now that Deb is also a killer now and with Hanna running loose on Miami? and i'm sure this thing about Dexter almost getting caught is not yet over even with Maria's death.

The producers have said that next season will already be the last, and that they already have a definite ending to the story in place. Hindi uso sa kanila 'yung gawain ng local networks natin dito where the storyline is artificially bloated if the show is doing really well in the ratings.

But I noticed lang, kahit putol putol panunuod, kahit hindi sunod sunod ang episodes eh I find myself still watching/hooked sa current episode that they are watching.
I feel every episode is good as stand alone.

For someone who's been the paragon of methodical restraint and discipline for 8 seasons, I just find it hard to believe that Dexter would all of a sudden be so careless, so sloppy, all in one day.
Too neat a wrap-up, methinks. Although yeah, no season finale will ever please a show's entire universe of fans.

A very depressing and unfulfilling ending. Death in the storm was more fitting. The producers felt if he died or got arrested, it would be too predicable. That's then problem when the suits mess it up for the writers. I guess, they wanted options for the future. I propose he teams up with Walter White.

That would have been a fitting ending. To push it a bit, Dexter is bound on a table with plastic just like his victims. Around him are photos of his kills. Close up on his face as he draws a blank stare as life is snuffed out of him. Fade to black.

A more fitting ending indeed. But I don't think it would've saved the dismal final season. Parang matagal nang napabayaan ng mga writers/showrunners ang show, that's why they were stuck with such a sucky ending.
I was willing to give the final season a chance early on, but the showrunners kept diffusing the tension with so much filler and so many forgettable/disposable characters. I was expecting the tension/plot to escalate around mid-season, but at around ep.9, they still wanted you to care about Masuka's hot daughter or Quinn's feelings.
And in the penultimate episode, Dexter suddenly plays idiot ball (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/IdiotBall), which leads to Deb (the only other character I still care about) dying a mostly offscreen death in the finale... Mega turkey :-[

The original writer left after Season 4. That is why Dexter fell flat.

Of all the problems of the series finale, I hated most that Dexter thought that Deb deserves to be put in the ocean along with his other kills. Also, who else was waiting for a TDKR-like ending, waiting for him to show up on that cafe? ;D

Some time during the life of the show the writer/s changed. I cannot remember where but the plot lines went dry. But still this remains to be on my list of classics.

I actually see the potential for another season, though I don't see it happening in the sticks. If it IS happening, it makes sense to have it set in NYC, since it's the nearest major city to the current setting.
