Title: Unopened/Unwatched DVDs You Have for the Longest Time

As I inspected my disc collection, I noticed that quite a number remained sealed and other unwatched for one reason or another. Why buy expensive DVDs in the first place but not watch it? Ageing it like wine? Worst, some maybe suffering already from DVD rot :o

Anyway, heres a list of titles that remained sealed in my collection.  Ill update this from time to time to serve as my online guide. Why don't you put your own list too.

about dvd rot, i think it has something to do more with batch defects rather than something that will happen to all discs eventually. case in point, superman r3
i had it only for 3 months before the delamination or the cloudy areas appeared and rendered some of  the special features unviewable. luckily astrovision replaced it.
compared to my silence of the lambs criterion edition. one of the first dual layers discs. you would expect that it would show signs of delamination after all this time but it doesnt

Beauty and the Beast Platinum Edition.. just got it a few days ago.. too bad, a friend of mine lent me a ton of anime DVDs that I just couldn't resist leaving it on my shelf for now...  ;D

The Rock CC  - watched many times na kasi sa HBO :)
Last Temptation of Christ CC  - was planning to watch it last Holy Week.
Dogma SE- same with Last Temp
SE7EN Platinum Series- liked the movie so much, had to have the DVD.  ;D ;D
Akira SE - must have anime  :D ;D
Austin Powers 1 & 2 - what can I say big fan of the movie...yeah baby  ;D ;D ;D

I always make it a point to make a fast scan-through of the discs as soon as I get them, this in my paranoia that I might get a subpar copy.  

Thus I am left with no sealed DVD, except for my Wild Wild West R3 (dunno why I can't seem to have the energy to unseal it ;D).

Me, too. The first thing I watch are the special features, the trailers, and my favorite scenes.  

What I do have are DVDs (the main film) that still have to be watched from beginning to end:

Excalibur - loved this movie first time I saw it
Lawrence of Arabia - another movie I fell in love with
Star Trek I: TMP Special Edition
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn - Director's Edition
  (for this one, I plan to watch director's commentary
  first)
Little Women - the Winona Ryder version
Time after Time
L.A. Confidential
Ben Hur - too long, have to find time
Bridge on the River Kwai - liked it before, seems slow

Sometimes I get to borrow some titles without even watching the ones I have.  Maybe it's just that notion that your DVDs will always be there on your beck and call but rented ones need to be viewed to be returned on a date.  So buying DVDs and not watching it seems illogical but it is not really on watching it but just the joy of owning one. ;D

Hmm, my database tells me I still have 46 unopened ones, mostly classics and SEs. I do intend to open all at some point, though I must say opening a DVD is both a great pleasure and a sad event. I'm afraid to think of what that means...

same here. i always open my dvds and test them once they arrive. had a bad experience with the first batch of dvds i ever ordered online. the very first disc i opened (Phantom Menace) was defective and would not play.

well after my recent experience with my recently bought beauty and the beast platinum which had scratches but could play, i think i should start opening them. i've been able to have my scratched dvds replaced before but not this one. my first ever dvd was blade runner r3 and it was scratched when i opened it. buti na lang pinalitan ng warner after a year because i thought it was not replaceable.

However, additional unopened titles were added. Marami pa ring unopened.  Promise na talaga, stop buying muna ako ng DVD origs habang marami pang unopened.

With the economy going nuts, I am scaling down on my DVD purchases and plans to watch the titles I have on my list. Hopefully, mapanood ko rin lahat and the economy improves so I can buy more discs ;D

got this from the Warner P350 Sale. i loved Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket and was awed by 2001: A Space Oddyssey. however, i can't get myself to watch Barry Lyndon much more open the DVD.  ::)

well after months of sitting on the TV, i've finally openned my band of brothers' dvd, and i'm so glad i did. :)
the video quality was awsome and hearing the battle in gloriuos DTS was surely a treat, this must be one of the best dvd's to come out in 2002 8)

as for my other unoppened dvd's, i still have evil dead, book of the dead ver. and akira limited tin can ed.
i doubt if i would ever open this dvd's since i have other versions of these dvd's thats already been opened.

Hey bently, I'm one of the very few who have never seen this one before. Is this really good? If this is anything close to "Saving Private Ryan", then I'll buy it.

Kating-kati na kasi akong bumili nang DVD. I was just at Best Buy last night pero wala akong nagustuhan. I just need to get a new one to relieve my dvd itch, but I don't wanna waste my money on just anything.

go ahead and get it! you won't regret it!

i believe the story is a lot better than saving private ryan. the mini series brings you to the true story of e-z company from the start of WW2 all the way to the fall of hitler...the characters are very well developed, i think this is the most big budget movie series ever produced for a tv. with speilberg and tom hanks at the helm, i'm sure nothing was cut short...and it just shows on the video and audio quality of the dvd.

i also like the extra feature where they gathered all the true to life survivors of e-z company flew them over to europe and had them relive and tell their story. it really adds realism to the movie.

this has to be one of the best packaging. i even have it displayed near my tv! :) so bili ka na...! ;)

I also have opened and watched every DVD that I bought.  I like to check the DVDs I bought for any possible errors (both physical and otherwise).  There is only one DVD that I haven't opened and thats the Lord of the Rings 2-disc set.  The reason was that when I got the said DVD, I learned about (and quickly ordered) the Extended Edition.  Its not a loss anyway, since the features in the 2-disc DVD are different from the Extended Edition.  ;D  ;D  ;D

After 3 years on my DVD shelves, I was able to watch (sort of) Dr. Zhivago. Good thing, the disc played flawlessly especially on those Chapters mentioned in other topics that suffered from DVD rot/pixellation.

The first thing I do to new shrink wrapped DVDs coming home from a DVD shopping is to open them and see their conditions in case I need to have one returned/exchanged.  After opening, I don't necessarily watch the entire film, unless it's a title I'm aching to watch, I just browse through chapters to see if there's freezing.  Then I'll watch when I feel like it, often taking weeks or months after I bought them.   ;D

I have quite a collection of DVDs that's unopened.  Already watched the VCD, liked it a lot, so have to buy the DVD when it become available... but then it just get filed, since I already know the plot, and there are lots of other unseen DVDs, so they stay unopened...

Others like Lawrence Of Arabia, is said to be best seen on the widest possible widescreen TV, since I still don't have one, I don't want to ruin the movie, and that movie keep waiting for the Plasma that I never get to buy...

Still others are three or four hour movies (Schindler's List, Gone With the Wind, Ben Hur, etc) that I never find time to watch, don't want to watch it in two installment...

Probably a backlog of @20 DVDs (and another 20-30 VCDs), and keep growing (especially after every Mall-wide sale)... 

One of the problem with DVDs here is that they are not always available, more obscure (and even some new titles) may have one release, then disappear forever from local shelves.  So you are sometimes tempted to buy any title you might remotely be interested, many times, if you buy , say, 2 or 3 titles on one shopping trip, I watch one, and the other 2 get filed...

60% of my collection still sealed.  All LOTR gift set are still sealed.  I robot head still sealed and inside the box.  Almost all my LE's are sealed.  No time to watch.  :(

I bought 3 DVD titles from Astro a couple of months back. THe problem is I forgot where I placed the package and I also forgot the titles hence it is till unopened to date  ;)

Havent updated my first post for the longest time!  :(

I bought Big Time several weeks ago but I can't seem to get the power to put it in the player and watch it. Im more pre-occupied watching series DVDs I got from Makati.   ;)

I need to update my list in the first post. The problem is, I cannot yet account for all the DVDs I have since I can't find one balikbayan box where I placed a number of DVDs when I transfered residence  :'( :'(. That unopened list have already grown longer.

madami pa pong unwatched pero ang isang title na feeling ko di ko na siguro mabubuksan - GHOST.  Parang pang one-taym viewing lang yun sa sine  ;D  Ganda lang talaga ni Demi during the clay-sculpting scen kaya ako napabili.

Ang isa pa ay THE SIXTH SENSE. Once alam mo na yung twist, nagiging common 'multo' movie na lang sha...  ;)

All of these (Wala akong magawa kaya pinicturan ko mga animation/Pixar DVDs ko ;D). 3 in the picture are unsealed but still unwatched. Plus a whole lot of others. Just started collecting 10 months ago. 80% are still sealed I think. Around 200+ total titles if I'm not mistaken. So sealed pa around 150+ of them.

I know I have season 4 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fully sealed (hence unwatched  :(  ). Problem is I can't seem to find it together with a bunch of other DVDS (Buffy season 1-3, Constantine, etc). I'm still missing one boxfull of DVDs when I moved residence two years go. Haven't fully opened all the boxed things.  :( :( :(

Eureka!!!. After 2 years nabuksan ko din yung balikbayan box ko containing 100+ dvds (amazon, astroplus/vision, eauction acquired dvds, no bootlegs here!  :D  )

Now I can update my very first post and complete my DVD records (para hindi na madoble ng bili)

I just checked out my first post (Post#1) and realized that there was practically no change on the titles that I havent watched. In fact, nadagdagan pa yung list since my last update was in 2006!

Maybe I should stop buying discs until I cleared my backlog of unwatched videos. (O Ibenta ko na lang :D  )

Sorry for the bump. Its summer 2015 and I need to do an inventory of all my legit DVDs to see if some have already suffered from DVD rot. I still have quite a number of unopened DVDs (see first post which I need to update after such a looooong time). As you can see, that last posting for this thread is almost 5 years ago.
