Just saw the memo regarding this weekend's price drop sale at almost all branches of Astrovision. The pricing scheme is as follows:
Php 299 - All Fox, Disney, BVHE releases normally priced at 550 except for October releases*
Php 199 - All Fox, Disney, BVHE, Hallmark, Viva releases normally priced at 250/299/350
Php 100 - All MGM, Viva, Tagalog, Bratz, Sesame Street, Thomas, Spongebob, Dora, Nick and Barney titles normally priced at 150/199
* - October Viva releases not included in the sale would be: The Jungle Book: Platinum Edition, Enchanted Tales: Follow Your Dreams, 28 Weeks Later & Firehouse Dog

It really makes me wonder if I should ever buy any Viva titles at 550. Imagine, down to 299 or less just a few weeks later.

Definitely. I was copying the branches, but stopped when I saw it was almost everywhere. I'm sure I saw Glorietta and SM Makati on the list.

Heard from some VIVA people that the 150 pesos sale would be revived if the 199pesos sale doesn't generate much volume. They just followed Magnavision's 199pesos sale. This is funny since Magna just followed VIVA's 299pesos before since their 333pesos sale didn't generate much volume.
As an OT, the new Transformers Transforming toy would be localled packaged, meaning the toys and discs arrived seperately and the people at Magna would be putting the bare dvds(no seperate case) in the toy themselves. Hope they don't scratched those discs!

Was supposed to go to Glorietta this lunchtime for the DVD sale ! Had work to do so I just ate my baon sa office. Lagi pa naman akong dumadaan dun sa area na nasabugan to get to a Booksale branch sa may Goldcrest. Lucky me.

Thanks for worrying about me, Mr. Hankey, guys ! Was really about to go... but my client wanted us to finish something for an after lunch submission. My part of the work was done... I could've gone out but my groupmate kept working through lunch and I was ashamed to leave him. So I just sat in my cubicle eating my baon and thinking of the DVDs others would get before me... Whew !!!

I was able to read this thread as well past 2pm and logged out a few minutes after. When I went down to my room later on my wife told me about this incident, first thing that popped into my mind was El Zar, I wanted to log in again and tell him not to go, but I already got stuck in the news. :-\

Muntik na din ako mapadaan Glorietta Astro kanina.
My original plan was to go straight to Astro Makati. My office is at Paseo-Ayala. Good thing I decided to drop by Music One Gbelt first, then Landmark.
When I went to Music One, the saleslady was just adjusting the prices so I already browse on the stocks in the boxes even when the price sticker has not yet been replaced.
Eto po yung mga titles na nabili ko sa Music One Gbelt (12:30):

Braveheart - 299
After nun nagpunta naman ako Landmark and found the same titles on sale, buti na lang tinamad na ko at di na lang tumuloy sa Glorietta and SM Astro Branch.

And I also saw Chronicles of Narnia with new back cover. No more misspelled words, omitted the pictures with postcards, booklets, (which is not really included in the package) and it doesn't include the dvd specs. Kaya naman pala nila gawin to eh

Saw these disc at Astro SM Fairview but a lil hesitant whether to pick or not, considering the usual quality of VIVA discs. ::) Braveheart i think is 199 and its DVD9 according to the info on the cover. However, this did not inspire me to pick that up still. I hope those who got some VIVA disc that are presently on sale can post their review here for our info.. ;)

Viva discs are very good quality. If they are Fox and Disney release, they usually mirror R1. Braveheart is okay, of course, the upcoming R1 release is remastered and will be better but not sure if Viva will ever release that here. At 199, the present release is already a bargain...
I went back yesterday and pick up a couple of Disney straight-to-video flicks like Mulan 2 which I wouldn't have bought if they are full price. Also got Wild Hogs at 299.

yun bang mga Viva P150 and P100 titles na walang naka-indicate na aspect ratio defaults to widescreen or standard? was at astro metro east a few weeks ago and chanced upon a bevy of very very interesting titles for P100. upon closer inspection though, i noticed most, if not all, are in 4:3.
kaya ngayon when i check on a Viva P100/P150/P199 titles i always look whether it's in FS or WS. the thing is, lately bihira nang naka-indicate ang AR sa mga marked down dvd's nila. is there a way to know kaya if what you're buying is foolscreen or not? i'm getting the opinion tuloy that it seems i'm getting more value from C-Interactive titles lately.

I bought a DVD of M.Night Shyamalan's "The Signs" at P100.00 and "Green Card" for P75. Both are from Buena Vista and like other Disney Titles I have, naka-indicate naman sa likod na WS 16x9 and aspect ratio nila. Maliliit nga lang mga fonts.

Last night I got "Young Black Stallion" for P75 at Video City Farmers Plaza and it said WS on the back cover (think it was also 16x9). Haven't watched it yet though.

actually, they're all over now. just that this one store might have better title selection than the other. this P100/125/150/175/199 titles are a common staple at video shops now. this might be a buildup to more "bagsak-presyo" sales for the holiday season. brace yourself for the onslaught. :D ipon-ipon na... or baka yung buong 13th month eh naka-allot na for dvd hoarding. ;D

I was there last Saturday Nov.3 and nasa labas ng mga stores yung mga titles na naka sale. I'm not sure though kung weekend sale lang 'yon. Common na kasi sa mga Video Stores ngayon yung puro weekend bagsak presyo sale eh.
Marami pang ibang titles na P100.00 di ko lang maalala kung anu-ano. Piliin mo lang yung mga Disney/Buena Vista titles para DVD9 and WS makuha mo. That is kung available pa sila sa ganoong "sale" prices.

Been to Astro The Block tonight. Yung prices nung Disney titles nila went back to P299-P350-P550. Iilan lang ang P199. I'm not sure kung sa Astro lang ito o pati sa ibang Video Stores.

Don't fret about it. The film's soundtrack was recorded in mono, except for the musical score. It was Steven Soderbergh's creative decision.

So many VIVA releases have very limited back cover info about the disc so its a "caveat emptor." i dont feel picking one if no review is made here. So may we request holders of VIVA discs to post your review please. ;)

I've said it before, I'll say it again:
If there is NO FOX or DISNEY/BUENA VISTA logo on the VIVA DVD, then 99% of the time it will be a fullscreen DVD of poor quality.
Just look for the Fox/Disney logos, those are the imported products with the same disc contents as seen thoughout the region.

you really have to go the rounds of these stores to get the best titles for the best price. even in astro themselves, meron sale sa isang store pero regular price naman sa kabila. so my sweet spot now is P199. if it's P250 or higher, i hold off muna until i see them in other stores to confirm pricing, esp. if di naman ganun ka-rare yung title. stores i go the rounds of include astro podium, astro virra mall, astro metro east and odyssey metro east. yung mga stalls, as mentioned by reynold can have some hidden treasures too.

I was able to snatch one of the few remaining copies of the R3 Lion King during the Viva Sale a year ago at SM Pampanga when I attended a seminar in the province. My post was actually for members like you who I know have been looking for this title. But if this would surface again, I won't mind getting a second copy. ;D

Oh, there are a few Viva dvd releases which contain typo errors at the back cover label- Solaris says "Doldy Digital".. The Narnia 2 disc edition also has a typo error which I can't recall. Fortunately, quality for both dvds are pristine.

Yes. As of yesterday morning 2 copies of AVP and 1 copy of terminator yung nakita ko sa display nila. Ok sana AVP kaso nakabili na ko for P299 dati. :( Just thinking panregalo. ;)

Question lang:
Maganda ba yung quality ng mga DVD on sale na may tatak ng VIVA. So far, I have bought the following 2-disc editions for just P199: LXG, X-Men 2, X-Men, 3 and Fantastic 4. Fox siya at walang tatak VIVA and I was satisfied with the quality. Now, me mga DVD on sale kasi na me tatak ng VIVA sa likod like Armageddon, Face/Off, etc. I want to buy sana. Pero I'm relucatant kasi me tatak VIVA. Kasi when I bought yung Tagalog DVD from VIVA, I was disappointed kasi yung picture quality ay pang-VCD at ang difference lang is 1 disc at hindi 2 discs like the regular DVD. So I'm thinking baka so-so lang yung mga DVD releases nila unlike if it's talagang Fox lang nakalagay sa likod.

Nung bumili ako kahapon 2 na lang sila (Shawshank). Yung natira loose na yung dvd sa loob kasi nung inalog ko wla na sya sa lalagyan nya. :( Kaya lahat ng binili pinabuksan ko na muna baka kasi may gasgas. Yung Last Temptation nga nung tiningnan ko yung dvd may mga dark spots tapos nang pinakita ko sa cashier nila nilinis nya ng daliri nya. ;D Tapos binigay nya sa sup nila, yung sup naman nilinis ng damit nya tapos binalik sa case at nilagyan ng plastic uli. ;D Kawawa naman ang bibili nun. Buti na lang yung binili ko pinalitan. :)

I bought my X-Men 2 (2-disc ed with DTS) and 3 (2-disc ed with DTS) sa Gaisano Mall sa Lucena. Yeah, wala na rin ako makita copies dito SM malls. The last time I went back, sa Gaisano P750 na uli yung 2-disc ed ng X-Men 3. Buti na lang bumili na agad ako.

I was able to buy the lenticular Jumper and slipcased 27 Dresses at the Landmark Trinoma Record Bar last night for Php 299 each. Not a special sale. Just your regular Viva across-the-board price reduction.

As posted, the pickings are not that much. But if you like me, hold off purchasing at full price, then you might be able to pick up a few DVDs. Saw this at Astro Robinsons and Manila. Also at Odyssey but at Odyssey, it's mostly the 450 buy one take one.
As for the Magnavision one, daya minsan, because some titles like BBC Lost Cities of the Ancient (@Php 550) and Faith Like Potatoes (Php 695) is now Php 750. Buy one take one, still way cheaper. Titles from Magna includes Kung Fu Panda, Mamma Mia, Hellboy II, Indy Jones 4, Faith Like Potatoes, Fireproof, and a lot more...
I posted this because AFAIK some titles like Quantum of Solace is being discounted for the first time since it's release. Up to the end of the month lang daw, but as we all know, it will return in one form or another a few weeks, months, or sometimes, days after... ;)

That's Magnavision's property. I think they are kind of cheap already. Boxed...probably in the 599 -699 for all three but speculating since I don't really remember. :)

Update: Doubt is probably a good DVD9 release from Viva (judging from the box and price).

been able to get some of the newly discounted titles which included the most recent wolverine.
can anyone help though. ive been able to get all bond titles through this scheme with the exception of 85's a view to a kill. all i have seen so far is the one disc edition. can anybody point me out where i can find the two disc ultimate ed? tia.

On the side.. I wanted to ask why is that VIVA DVDs do not have the option of DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 or 2.1 in the menu.
It does have the DD stamp on the box.
