Unfortunately the best deal for hd discs is the buy 2 take 1..However on players, the a35 is down to 360 dollars na, Wow 360 dollars or wait for mondays 149..If I did not win on Monday and this thing goes back above 400, I will indeed cry :'(..
I think the black friday dvd deal is the planet of the apes ultimate ed with the ape head, from 169 to 71 dollars..I may be wrong, but I think this is it, might wanna check it out.

Yeah Moks007 is right...kill joy talaga, I thought there would be some "amazing can't resist" promo at Amazon on the Black Friday. Even I won in the customer vote, chances of being selected to avail the item at the super special price is very slim. :-\

I'm very disappointed with Amazon's Black Friday promo...after all the hype there's nothing good to buy >:(..well, except the "buy 2 get 1 free promo"... ;D

I have written amazon re: my frustration and anguish to find out that their promo of getting a TOSHIBA HD-A3 has already expired. I was about to go neutral and get the A3 until this vote came up (the A35@$149) which prevented me to purchase it right there and then. Like most of us here, I wasn't lucky. Even my wife voted in all the rounds! I truly hope that a similar or even better promo comes up in December. ???

ESi, the current price of A3 at Amazon is $172.04 with FREE Shipping. What was the promo price prior to the voting? It still seems like a good price in view of below the $200 mark.

I can feel you bro esp after having a 1080p display...the next logical step is to upgrade your HD DVD player that can output 1080p. ;D The A35 is a great player as it can pass all HD audio out in bitstream including the DTS-HD Master Audio! :o

Amazon Goes BOGO For Blu-ray

Amazon.com has expanded an earlier "Buy One Get One Free" Blu-ray offer to include a total of 115 discs.

That's nearly three times the number of discs that the web retailer first put up nearly a week ago in its most recent 2-for-1 Blu-ray offer.

The newly updated promotion features a mix of titles from both Sony and Warner, including such fan favorites as '300,' 'Casino Royale' and 'The Fifth Element (Remastered).'

At press time there was no word on how long the promotion would be offered, but Amazon says quantities are limited. (The retailer has also capped sales of each individual disc to three per customer.)

I heard from Marl1 you encountered problems on CHECKOUT. Its very easy. Just click the HELP link on the upper left hand corner of the amazon webpage then email them about your problem. They will either let you order first the HD player of your choice (either A-3, A-30 or A-35 which are individually bundled with 300 & Bourne Identitly plus 3 Free titles from the list) then they will adjust the price after a day or two. They will notify you via email. The price will depend on the CURRENT pricing of the HD-DVD player you have chosen. I got Marl1 and myself an A3 at $199.98. Hurry before this promo ends! ;)

I heard from Marl1 you encountered problems on CHECKOUT. Its very easy. Just click the HELP link on the upper left hand corner of the amazon webpage then email them about your problem. They will either let you order first the HD player of your choice (either A-3, A-30 or A-35 which are individually bundled with 300 & Bourne Identitly plus 3 Free titles from the list) then they will adjust the price after a day or two. They will notify you via email. The price will depend on the CURRENT pricing of the HD-DVD player you have chosen. I got Marl1 and myself an A3 at $199.98. Hurry before this promo ends! ;)

Right now the bargain is in The flagship A-35 at $325. Imagine it was $450 in the first week of December. You can also write AMAZON if you can avail of late their promo get 10 titles and a HD-A3 for $199.00. Who knows with the right persuasive words and holidays spirit, they might let you avail of it. Any news if the additional ten percent discount will be extended thru 2008? After seeing the two latest bogo for both red and blue. I have decided to always wait for these bogo and not buy new releases or new catalogs anymore. Imagine titles just released for a month or two are already included. I got burned with the die hard series, and harry potter series already with bluray. There are also others I got burned..Oh well.. :'(

However a problem waiting it out is if those titles one waited out will ever be included. A sample is Ive been waiting for Shooter and Italian Job for the longest time. Up to now its not included in those bogo..Hopefully close encounters will be included soon. And of course hard to resist titles (if one should wait) Like next week, The Rock and Con air..Man these are must buys asap for me hehe..

Just to clarify, in marketing terms a "Buy One Take One" deal is actually equivalent to 50% off. If the regular price of disc A is P100 and disc B is P100 as well, then that should give you a total of P200 at regular price. However, if there's a BOGO deal in effect, that would make your total only P100 for the two discs instead of P200 (effectively 50% off).

If I were a supplier, it would be more advantageous for me to actually run a BOGO deal rather than a 50% off scheme, cause I am technically moving out more merchandise. For instance, if I have expiring / old stocks of a certain item, it's best that I do BOGO so that I can expedite the moveout (2 items minimum for every customer). On the other hand, if I just run a 50% off deal, the consumer can opt to buy only one item (slowing down my turnover).

Simply put, a BOGO would be more advantageous for the supplier, while a 50% discount would be more favourable for the consumer (he won't be obliged to purchase and choose two items). The thing is Amazon sometimes throws a headline which says 50% off but when you look at the discs being promoted, most of them are actually around 40% off and not the full 50% discount. In this case, a BOGO would of naturally be more advantageous. The current 53% off is a good deal though - better than a BOGO (unfortunately though, the titles are not exactly HOT items) :(

Hope this helps shed light on these marketing 'ploys'! ;)

yes but each disc has a certain amount of cost and profit riding on it. BOGO is better for consumers, but since
most will go for the most latest and more popular titles, then amazon makes less money.

so the 53% off is almost the same (in concept) to the regular consumer (not the ones from pdvd); yet it actually
saves amazon 3-7% in discounts on consolidated disc sales.

this is the work of a financially savy marketing guy. unlike most marketing people who focus on promo without thinking about cost.

Eric, just to clarify - two things.

First, haven't dealt that long with Amazon but assuming a sweeping 30% off on all titles at the outset is not exactly a fair baseline cause naturally it would differ by title. As mentioned different discs would have various cost components from COGS to overhead to licensing fees or what nots. As such, I believe it would be safe to assume that the application discounts would thus be selective or at least be grouped in batches and not done in a 'blanket' manner.

Secondly, your computation ain't apples to apples given that the discounts were applied to different bases (i.e. the bogo scheme to amazon's regular price vs. the 53% off scheme to the msrp). My contention above was purely on the discounting scheme model which naturally equates a 50% off to a BOGO deal (which is the theoretical business model).

Now when it comes to the nuances of the Amazon deals, and how they 'market' and 'promote' this discount, then your storyline would more or less hold more water. I mean applying a 50+% deal on the original selling price ($35.00) as compared to applying a BOGO deal (effectively 50% off) to the discounted selling price ($24.70) would naturally favor the latter (and put forward a very 'scheming' fascade on Amazon's behalf).

Is that fair marketing practice - one may argue NO. But that's how they manipulate the financials to attract consumers. Of course the non-savvy consumers would fall for the trap but if your contention was correct - across the board, then that should always be noted.

The only point I was trying to make is that if Amazon were to apply the discounts correctly to similar bases - then the 53% off would naturally be the better deal (yellow column below). If they don't do this and derive the resultant price via different baselines (red figures below), then it's obviously a marketing ploy as mentioned.

Just clarifying my contention. Ciao ;)

i hope they bring back the BOGO. in theory i think dapat talaga mas ok yung 53% off but with the titles and different discounts parang mas ok yung BOGO. IF I may quote aeris30 with his BOGO transaction, he would have only paid less than $12.50 per title.

Based on aeris30s case, yes I do agree. The BOGO deal of Amazon looks like the better bang for our buck vs. the 'scheming' half price off discount. Well it looks like the marketing wizards of Amazon are working their magic to get the most profit out of the deals - in this case, the half price off being the more favorable one from their perspective ...and like you mentioned unfortunate for the consumers. :-\

you're right. hindi nga lahat 30% off. minimum lang yung 30% off. amazon's price is 30-33% off list price for bluray & hddvd for old, new and even future releases.

my computations are based on how amazon actually applies the discounts. not how it theoretically should be.

FYI, for those who still buy hddvds :P Paramount is also having a sale, I got the following Zodiac- 19.99, Stardust 19.99, Italian job, 14.99 or 95 and Shooter 19.99. Finally got shooter after the longest wait..hehe..Prices are not bad na for me. Waiting for all these titles to come out in bluray might take 2 years pa or more :P. Imagine how long is the wait for Warner's batman begins and matrix for bluray. It also took studios 2 to 3 years to come out with approximately 300 to 400 titles for each format. So it may take a while for these to come out on bluray. ;D Oh well, thats my reasoning for buying, if it makes sense. ;D

In order to receive the rebate, you'll be required to send in the original proof-of-purchase tabs or UPC symbols from both versions of the same title, as well as a cash register receipt from the Blu-ray edition, imprinted with store name and dated between 1/8/08 and 12/31/08 with purchase price circled.

Yup Im looking for new titles also. They have I am Legend right now at 13.95. I got this and some other cheap dvds. Sayang the shipping just one title. Thats the thing sometimes one will end up spending more bec a great title on sale and nothing to combine it with. So to save on shipping, the only way is for me to match/combine with other preorders nalang or some cheap dvds that are below 10 dollars.

You can purchase a virtual credit card from epassporte.com and change the address to a US based address. They charge $5 for every $100 of credits. I was able to use this on gap.com and oldnavy.com which only accepts US based credit cards. Haven't tried it on bestbuy.com

I checked out the sale. Looks better than before. Theres like 6 that I want ;D..Great for those who want the box sets. You can get 3 boxsets, the other free haha..Seems like warner and sony are the only ones really serious about BD. The titles in promos and sale are usually theirs. Whats wrong with FOX (especially), universal and paramount. Hmmm

Best Buy will only accept credit cards w/ US billing addresses. Not sure with Circuit City.

True eh...I regret bought a few titles too early at the regular price...should have waited for the Thanks giving sale/promo. :-[ Problam is I don't have patient esp for those titles that I really love. ;D

I thinks its a great sale, there are a lot of new titles there that can avg. out around 18 dollars. Titles like bee movie, sweeney todd, romancing the stone, Drillbit taylor, etc. Its worth it imo bec these titles never hit 18 bucks. If you mix and match it some can avg. around 15 dollars. Like Transformers (24.95) and two other 19.95 films. Our disadvantage is really the shipping, for we are overseas. People in america are soooo lucky ;D. Problem with these kind of sale is that I always end up spending more bec. I wanna take advantage of the shipping, so instead of just ordering 3 discs will end up with 6 or 9 discs ;D, which ends up increasing my avg to 18 to 20 dollars. :(

whenever someone from the US is going home, I usually order used, like-new BDs for less than $10 shipped already to the US address.. that way I really get good quality BDs at a very low price.. In fact some used BDs are really cheaper than its DVD counterpart..

Where do you buy used BDs? As much as possible, I try to avoid ordering used BDs from the Amazon marketplace. Some of the discs I ordered before were not as described.

I highly doubt that B1G1 Blu-rays will ever be back. Without HD DVD as their competition, they don't need to entice consumers as much.

I was at astro virramall last night and they don't have this promo :'( but surprisingly they have more titles than before. They already have Kramer vs Kramer, a feb 17 release ata pa sa amazon. So imo this is very good news for a start. I just wish they can lower their starting price levels to around 1,250. ;D

For the first time, Warner Home Video will permanently discount 16 of their Blu-ray titles by 43% to a new SRP of $16.99. These two-packs are rather aggressively priced at an MSRP of $34.98 each, which makes them very good value for the money. There is no information available regarding how the two movies are packaged together.

ang tingin ko dito..... kung lahat ng pipiliin mong BD video ay over $20 ang halaga ...... mas makakatipid ka .... coz ang dini discount nila ay yung lowest value na nakuha mo ....

judging sa increase ng rate na illustrated above, nearly $4 ang increase per disc ..... so kung over $20 mas masusulit mo :)

Yup very lame sale imo, when you avg it out probably you just save mga 3 bucks versus pre-sale prices. I just got a couple basta mga 20.49 and under lang. It averaged out to about 15 dollars. So from pre-sale price of 18 to 19 bucks to 15 bucks, its still not bad, but could be better sana ;D

Ads show Target plans big discounts over Black Friday.
NOV. 11 | PHYSICAL: Target will roll out some DVD and Blu-ray Disc steals for its Black Friday promotion, according to ads that have leaked online.

A number of Blu-ray titles will be priced as low as $8.99, including GoodFellas, 2001: A Space Odyssey and I Am Legend. That marks one of the cheapest known tags yet for the format, which had previously hit a low of $9.99 at retail.

Target also is dropping several standard-definition complete-season TV DVD sets to $8.99, including Weeds, Friends and Flight of the Conchords. TV DVD sets, with their larger amount of content, are usually priced at a premium over movie discs.

And Target is pricing some blockbuster titles on DVD, including last year’s biggest theatrical movie The Dark Knight, with the retailer’s lowest price of the year—$3.99. Other DVDs offered at this level are Baby Mama, Elf and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

On the hardware side, Target is following a number of retailers, including Sears and Walmart, in advertising $149 Blu-ray players for the holidays. Target ups the offer some in including a $20 gift card for the chain with the purchase of its $149 Sony BDP-S360 player, which originally retailed for $199.

A Target spokesman didn’t comment specifically on upcoming product pricing. However, he noted that the chain is rallying around home entertainment as a major consumer draw this fourth quarter.

“Entertainment is always a popular category during the holiday season, and we’re fully prepared to offer consumers incredible deals and great savings around every corner,” the spokesman said.
