Title: Smallville
Post by: DViant on Mar 03, 2002 at 01:49 PM
At long last Studio 23's picking up the series. Now I don't have to download Video CDs to get my weekly dose of the lovely Kristin Kreuk.  ;D She is just sooo hot even though she's short!

It's a new take on the "Superman" origin, with Clark slowly developing his powers one-by-one as he also deals with the typical problems of being a high school student. I've finished the first 12 episodes already... very good for this type of show, but it seems to have borrowed its concept from another popular show that originated on the WB, but has since moved to UPN. The way they explained why weird things happen in Smallville seems a lot like "Sunnydale is a Hellmouth" for me. Relax, that's not a spoiler.

The producers have promised we won't see Superman flying in his costume, since that's not what the show is about.

For 80's trivia fans, The Dukes Of Hazzards' John Schneider and Superman III's Annette O'Toole play... Clark's parents - Jonathan and Martha Kent! What a transition for her, to go from playing Superman's girlfriend to playing his mother in... 19 years?

When I saw this casting decision, I immediately knew I was old.

We've come a long way, haven't we? :) I still remember the old superman comics where Pa and Ma Kent looked like grannies instead of parents to a bespectacled Clark. Then there was Glenn Ford, in his 60's, as a long-toothed Jonathan Kent counselling a high school Clark in the first Superman movie. Then, in Lois and Clark TV series, the Kents became hip fiftysomething parents totally at home in the 20th century.

John Schneider and Annette O'Toole may be in their forties, but I still remember them in their young glory. After all, they were the teen idols in my day. :) I can still remember high school buddies debating on who was cuter - John or Tom Wopat? Then of course there was Annette taking Robby Benson's heart away in that feel-good basketball movie.

Back to Smallville...

SPOILERS

So far all the reviews I've read are good. The young Lex Luthor also happens to be a good guy and Clark's best friend - which would make their future enmity all the more interesting. There are also plans to  star a young Bruce Wayne, whose dark and bitter heroism should prove to be a fascinating counterpart to Clark's naivete.

One On One! I think we might be the same age, trekker.  ;D Been waiting for that film on DVD. So long that I actually bought the VHS from Amazon, and due to a mix-up, they sent me 2 copies. Anyone want it?

As much as I like Annette O'Toole, I can't help but feel sorry for the actress they originally cast as Martha Kent. She even completed work on the pilot, but her scenes were reshot when they got O'Toole, the bigger name with the interesting Superman connection.

The original actress billed to star as Martha Kent bailed at the last moment cause she didn't like the stresses of a weekly TV series. I've seen the unaired pilot and I feel that O'Toole does a much convincing and better looking Mrs Kent. :)

I have the first 11 episodes on Video CD. I haven't had the chance to get the latest ones cause my ISP mysteriously downgraded me last Valentines Day. :( When I get a better connection I'll consider getting Super VCDs of these episodes. :)

I was able to get the episodes from the Internet. That's how far I can tell you cause I'm prohibited by the UA to elaborate. :)

The little thing called Morpheus (May God rest its soul), and currently Kazaa.

I actually have the unaired pilot as well. I can't say I disliked Cynthia Ettinger (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Ettinger,+Cynthia)'s portrayal of Martha Kent. She was very competent, IMHO. Besides, the role is strictly window-dressing in the pilot. I do like Annette O'Toole better, though... for nostalgic reasons stated above.  ::)

Bumping this thread, since I heard one of the Studio 23 VJs say that the show will probably debut locally in June.

I have two episodes to go before finishing the first season, and the show's finally taken a few steps beyond its "villain of the week" theme, which was getting tiresome. Yes, there's still a villain-of-the-week, but the relationships between the characters are already being further explored. Previously, it was just the Clark-Lex friendship that had any noticeable development. Sadly, Jonathan and Martha Kent have returned to window dressing status.

For those of you with Canadian connections, the first 2 episodes are being released on DVD in Canada only on July 2:

NY152, would you know why they decided putting just the first two eppies in this disc? ???  I'm sure there would be subsequent releases but aren't TV series box-sets come with at least three to four episodes per disc?  Parang di sulit...Kristin Kreuk is not even on the cover! >:(  ;D

it says (a blurry) 'pilot' below the Smallville title.  Can you guys see it?  Squint your eyes a bit more. ;D  I guess the said DVD only includes the premiere which is more understandable for such a release.  A RIP-OFF >:( ... but understandable. ;D

Yup, it's just the pilot and the second episode, bart... if you noticed, the two episodes are actually connected to each other.

This video release is similar to what they did with the pilot of Lois & Clark, which came out on VHS HERE but not in the States. Same with the pilot of E.R..

Come to think of it, the pilot of the new The Fugitive series also came out on DVD here but not in the States. Hmm...

Maybe we're going to see the Smallville pilot on Region 3 DVDs, too.  8)

Rented a DVD copy of the 1st/2nd episode in a video store called MIRU in Bacolod (yes, we have DVD's here and yes, we're first world enough to carry lovelies like Ghost World, Memento, Lagaan, etc...)

All in all, Smallville should be a pretty entertaining series, it should gather a Buffy-like cult following. Tom Welling as Superboy isn't going to take home any Emmys for acting soon but his "aww shucks" hickory boy charm should get the dalagitas searching the Net for worship sites about him. As for the guys, don't worry...Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang will make you swoon. Haven't seen a TV actress this appealling since Alyssa Milano on Who's The Boss? Damn nice to look at. She also appears in the latest Snow White flick, with Miranda Richardson (siguro naman you can distinguish who's playing Snow White and the Evil Queen from the two? ;D).

I'm kinda sheepish  to admit that I like the Superman story retold in Dawsonesque fashion, complete with a Creed-like powerballad that plays as camera cranes out to a wide shot of a young Clark Kent pining over Lana. I half expected Katie Holmes to climb in thru his window.

Hurry the hell up S23!

Smallville Season One premieres in the Philippines on Studio 23 on Tuesday, October 8, 2002, 9:00PM (Replacing Angel).

Smallville Season Two begins in the US on The WB on Tuesday, September 24, 9:00PM.

I find it amusing that the creators of SMALLVILLE were tapped to write the sequel to SPIDER-MAN, while the creator of ALIAS is writing the new SUPERMAN movie.

Serious like a tumor, me darlin.' In fact, series EPs Alfred Gough and Miles Millar were chortling about it on the DVD. Over the CPR scene, which we first watched during the Pinoyslayers  (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pinoyslayer/) Son of Buffython, they allegedly said: "Here is where they kiss. We like that."

We didn't watch the DVD, we didn't hear the commentary, and we TOTALLY noticed.

I did, the first 2 eps anyway, since I'm just not that computer literate. Along with the Enterprise tape. *That* was cool.

I was asking for the DVD because of the commentary that one of the posts here mentioned. Maybe I am dense and old, because I saw nothing homoerotic in the pilot. Lex was just watching out for a very young friend.

Just finished watching the 2nd Season Premiere.

It's more of the same, but the preview for the second episode looks promising. They better start doing those story arcs soon.

As far as ratings are concerned, the episode was the HIGHEST RATED WB PROGRAM ever:

The Sept. 24 second-season premiere of Smallville gave The WB all-time network record ratings and topped all but NBC for its hour in key demographics, Variety reported. But UPN's new supernatural series Haunted, which debuted opposite Smallville, came out of the gate slowly, the trade paper reported.

Smallville averaged 8.66 million viewers and delivered the best ratings for any WB series on any night in adults 18-34 (5.2/14) and key male demographics, the trade paper reported. It topped its series premiere last fall by 16 percent and placed first or second in its hour in all key under-50 demographics. For the night, The WB led among persons 12-34, the trade paper reported.

This is not for the faint of heart...

Courtesy of the Fag Hag Faction of the PinoySlayers (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pinoyslayer/), with a nod to Cassie Claire and her secret diaries of the Fellowship

The Very secret Diary of Lex Luthor

Day 5:
Wanted to give Clark token of appreciation for giving me a kiss and, oh, yeah, saving my life. Got him a Porsche in my favorite shape knowing it would express what I could not in words, but Mr.Kent freaked out when he saw it so I got a truck instead; did not want him to think me a pervy Kansas farm boy-fancier.

Day 5[/b], cont:
Gave Clark a truck despite Mr. Kent's frowning, just to give my savior an excuse to visit my room, I mean, home. Conveniently started practicing the fencing (dressed in saucy one-piece fencer's outfit) as he arrived. Ended up almost impaling him with blade.

Freudian slip!

Day 7[/b]
Rescued my beloved, er.. new friend Clark Kent in cornfields today.  Aparently the victim of some kind of pervy SM-bondage sex ritual gone wrong. Took him down because he was too high up for me to .. hold his
hand.  One would've thought he'd be more appreciative, but no, idiot farm boy suddenly runs off in a panic despite my offer to ride him, er.. give him a ride. These farmers are truly strange folk.  Would not even stop to let me put his shirt back on.
...
...

Day 10[/b]
Personal cleaning lady Dolores puzzled over finding smelly flannel shirt among my bedclothes.  Would've burned it if I had not come in just in time.  Tried to explain that smelly unwashed shirt was part of scientific experiment and reminded her that I was budding science genius, but she would not buy it.  Maybe because it was same excuse I used when she found those rotting corn cobs in my underwear drawer.

Day 10[/b], cont:
Personal cleaning lady Dolores distraught over finding dainty green necklace under my pillow. Reminded her I was a budding science genius, but now she wants to check my CD collection for Gloria Gaynor.

Curses. It was in the car.

Note to self: Replace "Best of '70s Divas" immediately.

The Secret Diary Of Lana's Boyfriend (whose name I can't remember)

Day 1[/b]:
Never noticed it before, but Clark Kent v v pretty. I think I will strip him and tie him to a block of wood and write obscene things on his chest.

Day 2[/b]:
Got blockhead football buddies to strip and tie up Clark with me. Lana's dainty green necklace much prettier on him.

Day 2[/b] continued
Brought Lana home in the hopes of seeing Clark in his barn.  Am thinking of charging into the barn and showing him a good use for all that hay, but Lex will kill me if I try anything.

Smallville's been copying Buffy storylines in the past, but Episode 206: Redux was the worst.

(SPOILER START) New girl in high school needs to kiss boys to suck the youth out of them to keep her own youthful appearance. When unable to kiss one for an extended period, she ages rapidly and disintegrates. (SPOILER END)

I'm just glad they didn't name her "Ampata."

And SV206 wasn't even a good episode.

You said it! No wonder they kept the episode in holding since season one, resulting in only 21 episodes for that season - that number puzzled me, it just seems incomplete for a full season order.

It was very creative dubbing to make it more appropriate for the second season, though, but it still felt wrong, since the relationship between Lana and Clark is very different today than it was last season. Also  Clark distracting Pete before using his special powers...[end spoiler] what for, at this point?

Anyway, I'm really tired of the "Villain of the Week" format of Smallville.  I hope things get better in Season 2.

As of the first 10 episodes, NO, they don't. Sorry, still "Villain of the Week". But ratings have been great. Looks like this show will be sticking around.

Here's a short EW article about the current season: Click here (http://www.ew.com/ew/report/0,6115,394851~3~0~ewmakesvisittosmallville,00.html). WARNING! Lots of spoilers for those only on Season One.

By the way, there are rumors floating around that a DVD of the complete first season will be out on March 18, 2002. I hope these rumors can be confirmed, since I haven't seen such a boxed set listed online anywhere.

Ah, too bad.  Oh well.  I just wish they'd change the format.  It's ok to retain the "Villain of the Week" format but it would be better if they'd have larger story-arcs in addition to the "Villain of the Week," like what the X-Files did.

Something for 70s/80s Trivia/Nostalgia Buffs, from SciFi.Com (http://www.scifi.com):

Christopher Reeve Revisits Smallville

Christopher Reeve, star of the original Superman movie, will make a guest appearance on The WB's Superman series, Smallville, on Feb. 25, Variety reported. Reeve, who is reportedly a fan of the show, will play Dr. Swann, a scientist who offers guidance to the young Clark Kent, played by Tom Welling, the trade paper reported.

Reeve, who has been paralyzed from the neck down since a 1995 horseback-riding accident, remains best known for starring in 1978's Superman and its three sequels, the trade paper reported. Smallville producers will shoot the scene with Reeve and Welling at the end of next week in New York, to accommodate Reeve. The Warner Brothers TV/Tollin-Robbins Productions series is normally filmed in Vancouver, B.C.

Smallville executive producer Al Gough told Variety that he and fellow producer Miles Millar have been hoping to bring Reeve onto the show for some time. "When we created the show, Miles and I said the first [Superman] movie was our gold standard," Gough said. "In the back of our heads, we wanted to get Chris to do the show. We discovered he was a big fan of the show."

It looks like a single scene cameo. I was hoping he'd have a scene with Annette O'Toole, Kristin Kreuk and Tom Welling - don't you think it would be fun to have the original Clark Kent/Lana Lang beside their new incarnations?

The last episode I saw was 208: Ryan which I thought was a real disappointment. I'm glad that they're trying to veer away from the Freak Of The Week formula, but they should have put more thought into the scriptwriting.

There was no build-up and left a lot of loose ends at the end IMHO.

Just got this email:

Reeve Joining SMALLVILLE Cast
-
Christopher Reeve is set to guest star on the February 25th episode of SMALLVILLE, playing a scientist who helps young Clark Kent discover more about his off-world origin. The role was created specifically for Reeve, and it's possible it could turn into a recurring role.
This week on SMALLVILLE, in an episode written by Kenneth Biller & Jeph Loeb, Clark heads to Metropolis to save his mother from a group of criminals, where he'll just so happen to attempt to leap a tall building in a single bound.

SUPER SEXY
Lana Lang and Clark Kent, ''Smallville''

PLAYED BY Kristin Kreuk and Tom Welling

RELATIONSHIP STATUS The good news: This season has seen not one, but two episodes with the cute couple in major lip lock. The bad news: They're still not technically a couple. The first makeout session only happened because Clark was exposed to red Kryptonite and went all black-leather-jacket wearing, motorcycle riding, sociopathic bad boy; and the second time it wasn't Clark at all but rather shape-shifting psycho Tina, who spent the hour morphing into anyone she thought could get close to Lana.

WHY WE LOVE THEM These two nicely play the ups and downs of first love -- and yet their relationship has some depth. He knows he's responsible for the death of her parents (the meteor that followed his arrival on Earth killed them). Plus, they're just too beautiful not to be together.

WHY WE DON'T We know it's doomed -- Clark doesn't get Lana in the comic books.

**** SPOILER WARNING********[/size]

LANA WILL END UP WITH.....

(Spoiler start)
Lana will end up with Clark's best friend Pete Ross.  (Based on DC Comics) (Spoiler ends)

TAKEN FROM THE SUPERMAN COMICS (MAN OF STEEL 1986)

(Spoiler start)
LANA LANG
- Friend of Superman. Lana grew up near Smallville and met Clark Kent in elementary school. They quickly became close friends, and Lana fell in love with Clark. Her thoughts of marriage ended in high school one night, however, when Clark revealed he had remarkable super powers and would be leaving Smallville. After Superman's debut, Lex Luthor had Lana kidnapped and interrogated in an attempt to learn Superman's secret identity, but Lana never cracked. Lana's connection with Superman has also caused her to be brainwashed by Manhunter androids, and injured during a fight between Superman and Matrix in Smallville. Lana always hoped there was a chance that Clark would marry her, but eventually gave up when Clark told her he loved Lois Lane. Lana persuaded Lois Lane that Clark loved her when Lois had doubts. Eventually, Lana sold her family's farm in Smallville and moved to Washington D.C where she has married another childhood friend of Clark Kent, Pete Ross. After Ross lost his senate position, the couple returned to Smallville. Lana was one of Lois' bridesmaids at Lois and Clark's wedding. Later, Lana was pregnant, unknown to Clark, and when she was involved in a car accident, the baby was born 2 months pre-mature. She called Clark to ask him if he could help save her baby. As Superman, he was taking the infant to another hospital when Doomsday, inhabited by Brainiac's mind, attacked him. He took the child, intending to grow a more controllable Doomsday from his tiny body. Superman and the child's father, Pete Ross, rescued the infant and Brainiac's technology had made him healthy. Lana and Pete named him Clark Peter Ross (Superman: The Doomsday Wars #1-3).
Recently Lana has taken a backseat to things going on around her as Lex Luthor chose her husband, Pete Ross as his Vice Presidential running mate. Even knowing how twisted and evil Luthor is after her capture and torture years prior, her devotion to Clark Kent still holds true for she knows that she cannot reveal the trials Luthor put her through without exposing Clark's secret identity to Pete. Ever wary around Luthor, she still seems happy to be the Second Lady of the United States of America.

The other night's episode of Smallville was special.

Their guest was Christopher Reeve as Time Man of the Year - Virgil Swann = a brilliant scientist who uncovered the secrets of planet Krypton, and holds the key to the mysteries about Clark's past and future. They were even playing the Superman(the movie) theme song as the background music while Virgil Swann was revealing to Clark that his true name is Kal-el and the mysteries of his planet and his origin. Virgil Swann showed to Clark the galaxy were Krypton used to be.

season 2 is entirely different from season 1, not just a rehash.... for one thing, there's not too many episodes dealing with the "Freak of the Week" anymore...

now it's more concentrated on the story, Lex going more evil, the love triangle between Clark, Chloe and Lana, and other more interesting stories... there's been 2 red kryptonite episodes already, and many more... and don't forget the Christopher Reeve episode :)

it's really amazing how the writers keep us enthralled when we know already what'll happen to these characters.

I'd like to think that the writers and creators of Smallville are retelling the Superman myth in the best way they can, even at the risk of disturbing some of what has been written, or shown onscreen, before.

The very friendship of Lex and Clark, one of the most vital relationships in the show, should not exist at all if they followed the comics right? (Superman experts feel free to correct me, I only collected the comics briefly during the death and resurrection saga, my knowledge has a good possibility of being limited).

Now for the guilty admission, I'm a sucker for a good romance and I just want Clark and Lana to have a happy ending.  A real happy one, not one of those great romantic tragedies where one of them dies but both of them felt true love (but if this were written and shot well I might not mind).  The suspense and drama between them every other episode might be getting to me.

Then there's Chloe.  In S2E16 "Fever" she reads her true feelings for Clark while he's asleep.  It's so poignant and touching it makes my heart go to her too, her knowledge that right now Clark's heart belongs to someone else yet she's willing to wait for her turn because she knows he's worth it.  Call it what you want but these are the rare moments when I'm happy to be paying my bills, my electricity and cable bills in particular.

However I still lean slightly towards Lana ending up with Clark.  I know it might just be a beauty bias, but I remember how disparate their levels seemed to be at the start of the series.  Lana being at the top of the school "heirarchy".  Being a cheerleader, dating the captain of the football team, and having the looks of an angel, Lana was on top of her world.  Clark was the geeky boy who always got literally weak kneed whenever he came close to Lana.  Eventually their statures gravitated closer and closer, as well as their friendship.  Lana came down to earth as her world was shaken by her relationship with Whitney and developments in her family.  Clark grew in stature not because of his growing powers, but because he was learning to harness them better.  The things he learned about himself and the tests that came his way also added to his growth.

But we've seen how fate kept throwing a monkey wrench at them everytime they seemed to grow too near.  I wish at the end they'd be together because after all they've been through they deserve each other.  I also wish Chloe find her happiness, if not in Clark then in someone else.

For all we know the producers have a surprise for us.  Rumors swirled about Season 2 for some time, an appearance from Bruce Wayne or even Lois Lane.  In the meantime let's continue enjoying the show...  :)

Like the others, I definitely agree that the second season is better. Not that the first wasn't solid but all the episodes in the new season seem to delve deeper into all the main characters personalities. Rosetta, (the Christopher Reeve ep.) being the high point of season 2 so far.

The first of six new episodes will air on April 15 in the US, with the finale scheduled on May 20. I've read that the writers plan to introduce a young Bruce Wayne during season 3 or 4.

Reposting this news article from SciFi.Com (http://www.scifi.com), since I thought it was funny:

Smallville's Clark To Stay Pure

Smallville executive producer Al Gough told TV Guide Online that Clark Kent will remain a virgin for the foreseeable future. "Yes, Clark is a virgin ... and will remain so," Gough told the site. "The show is about romance, not about sex, like Dawson's Creek, where they just hop into bed with each other."

Clark (Tom Welling) is in a love triangle with Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk) and Chloe Sullivan (Allison Mack). But, Gough said, "once you cross that line [of sex], then you forever change the character and the series. It's not something we want to do at this stage of the game. It'll definitely be down the road."

he he he... please excuse the enthusiasm, it's always so nice to see blair brown back on the small screen.  :D

it's a bit of a stretch to think that someone who looks like tom welling is a wallflower in real life 'no?

also, i think it was a great move for the series' creators to include chloe's character... and how clark would eventually find himself falling for her... i mean, how would they explain his attraction to lois lane-type characters if he falls for prom queen-types like lana lang. i think that was very smart of them to do that...  ::)

Since November Sweeps just ended and all the shows I like to watch are in reruns, I finally caught up completely with Season Three of this show.

Considering they originally planned for this show to end after its 5th season, I think Lex should be a bit more evil at this point. Hopefully his current "condition" is the start of this aspect of the story arc.

I still don't understand why they don't bring Lana and Clark together. Lana was Clark's girlfriend in the comics, right? Not just some crush he never acted on? Maybe they're afraid ratings will parallel what happens on other shows when two characters with sexual tension finally consummate their relationship.

The Smallville 1961 episode was fun, but it's been done before on countless other shows.

I also have a problem with Perry White in Smallville having suspicions about Clark having powers. This is the "new" Clark, who doesn't even wear glasses. The editor-in-chief will be really stupid not to know it's him in the future when Superman appears and Clark is his employee.  ::)

The writers also need to learn how to improve their continuity since this is a serial. I mean, it borders on ridiculous. In episode 2, Lex is recovering from malaria, then in the very next episode, he says he's never been sick for even one day in his life since the meteor shower.

Maybe the malaria affected his short-term memory?  ;D

Lastly, poor Pete Ross. In three seasons, he's moved from token black character to best friend who knows the secret to extra. I don't think he's uttered more than 3 sentences this entire season.

Well, it could be worse. He could be Whitney'ed.

actually... i'm alittle confused as to what version of the superman/smallville story the writers of this show are being faithful to:

golden age (in which case clark's mom would've been "mary" kent and lana DID become clarks girlfriend),

the silver age (matha kent na... but lana was clark's "unrequited love" since he was already under a "geeky" facade by the time he was in high school)

or the "post-byrne" superman (in which martha ken pa rin and clark was a school jock while he and lana were an "item" all through high school).

??? (really confusing! although i always figured they were following the silver age timeline.)

i think they (smallville's producers) really intended to stray from the comic book mythos naman. IMO it's more geared towards the dawson's creek crowd than comic book aficionados.  ;D

the movies naman (with christopher reeves) are very faithful to the "pre-byrne" superman.  :)

wouldn't it be a hoot if they put in the lana/manhunter storyline into smallville... i'd bet that stirs things up.   >:D

the way smallville veers from any superman storyline is genius.

"superman-iacs" will always love superman.
not doing the same old story (stories) always gives everyone something to look forward to.

Airing the same thing over and over could dull SUPERMAN's luster.
OT: To be fair, it (somehow) works on some sagas like STAR WARS.. which if one would read through books created after the original trilogy, would find that the story-line is actually incredibly in-line (with very very slight variations)

Wonder when will Studio 23 start airing season 4? I already saw the first 2 episodes and so far it looks promising. Clark has now met Lois Lane. Lana Lang still looks better than Lois which is similar to Superman 3 where Anette O' Toole starred as Lana. She looks better than Margot Kidder too who also appeared in episode 2 of season 4. Too bad Chris Reeve won't be around anymore for future episodes.

At long last Studio 23's picking up the series. Now I don't have to download Video CDs to get my weekly dose of the lovely Kristin Kreuk.  ;D She is just sooo hot even though she's short!

Here's a trivia about Kristin Kreuk. Besides having stunning looks, she has also the brains to match her looks! ;D She studied Environmental Science and she also wants to get into Criminology.  ::)

I think Clark remains a virgin until he gets married to Lois in Superman 2.   :D

Question: Would there be any possibility that the screenwriters of Smallville changes the original story line of Superman? Specifically, the part where Clark marries Lois....
I actually prefer Lana better! haha.  ;D  I don't get why I really hate Lois for Clark. I even think Cloey is better than Lois.   :-X

I guess in this case, "down the road" meant "two years."  ;D

I guess everyone knows the guy with the redy eyes is J'onn j'onz or Martian Manhunter.

Episode 11 named JUSTICE is gonna rock guys.  For DC fans out there, this is the show to watch.  Not only there is Superman (Clark Kent).  But in it would be Green Arrow, The Flash, Aquaman & Cyborg!

A tribute to JLA of sorts!

The last few episodes of season 6 have been a little boring. And even the first half of this last episode. Didn't feel to me that we were heading towards the end of the season. And not in a good way. Well, not until the end when we were presented with a new villain. I just hope this won't end up like the Zod episode which ended way too quickly leading me to shout at my computer, "That was it?! That's what I waited all summer for?!"

I'm just the teensiest bit disappointed that we won't be hearing him do bizarro-speak. ;D

Helen Slater to Appear on Smallville
Source: Variety
August 5, 2007

Former Supergirl star Helen Slater has signed on to appear on the CW's "Smallville." Slater will play the aunt of the show's recently cast Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort).

Slater will appear in the sixth episode of the upcoming season, two weeks after ex-Superman Dean Cain ("Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman") is scheduled to appear.

Slater has recently done guest gigs on "Crossing Jordan," "Grey's Anatomy" and "The New Adventures of Old Christine."

Sorry, let me just build on this Smallville thread rather than starting a new one.  Wow, just caught a glimpse of the 'H.Slater' episode and this original supergirl still looks trim and stunning.  The 'D.Cane' epi was likewise very interesting showing a different side of this ex-Supes.  They really are racking up the ex-Superman stars.  ;)

Speaking of which, you guys have to check this link out featuring a combo feature of legendary Reeve and Smallville's Tom Welling.  It's a fan-made video entitled: Superman Reborn - awesome amateur graphics work.  ;)  Click HERE. (http://www.stage6.com/Super-Heroes/video/1301764/Superman-Reborn)

According to Allison's blog, the writer's strike is actually threatening to cut this season short (currently finished taping at Episode 15, Episode 10 Persona to air this Jan 31 in the US).  Same way Bionic Woman and Battlestar Galactica closed shop when the strike reached Canada late last year (story HERE (http://www.tv.com/smallville/show/1718/story/10467.html?tag=story_list;title;1)).  Anyway, things may still look up.  To the Kristin / Allison fanatics, here's a quick Q&A conducted by TV.com on Smallville's primetime princesses.  ;D

TV.com Q&A: Smallville's Kristin Kreuk, Allison Mack

TV.com spoke with the two about Smallville and its growing cast, their new business, and what it's like on set.

TV.com: What can you tell us about the rest of season seven? Don't give away any spoilers, but I hear there's going to be a few big things coming up for both your characters.

Allison Mack: There are some big things coming up for both of us. There's a lot of girl power happening within the next couple of episodes.

Kristin Kreuk: Yeah, it's true, Allison and I are working a lot together.

Allison Mack: Kristin and I are working together more than we've ever worked together before, and we're spending some time working with Laura, who plays Supergirl. So, you're going to see three chicks running around taking care of business, which is a first for Smallville.

And Smallville has just been officially renewed for Season 8. Confirmed for the new season are Tom Welling and John Glover. Still negotiating are Kristin Kreuk, Allison Mack and Michael Rosenbaum.

If it started with Clark as high school sophomore, after 8 years... shouldn't this show be called Metropolis already?

It was previously mentioned that the 8th season will be the final year of the series. I'm okay with Lana not returning. The Clana relationship has been beaten to death. Chloe on the other hand, has grown on me over the years. Her transformation into Clark's Girl Friday has been fun. Lois? Just put her in tights or in a bikini and get out of the way!  ;D

Dear Smallville Fans,

Well, it's been seven wonderful years. Your support is what has made Smallville so successful, and I appreciate you all more than you know.

That being said, it is time for me to start the next chapter of my life and career. I hope that I gave you some enjoyment over the years, and that you found my portrayal of Lex Luthor to be satisfying. I am truly grateful, as Smallville fans are the best fans out there. I sincerely hope that you will continue to follow my career through my hair growth period and beyond.

I'm very excited about what the future holds, but certainly, Smallville will always be a part of me. I will definitely miss the greatest crew in the world, and the wonderful cast that has been like a family to me.

Thank you Al and Miles for creating the show. Thank you writers, producers, directors and editors. Thanks Tollin, Robbins and Davola for being there for the pilot. Thank you Peter Roth for employing me for ten years. Lisa Lewis, I miss you already. John Glover, thanks for helping me feel more comfortable touching other actors, while acting. Bizarre, but helpful.

Mostly, I want to thank Greg Beeman for directing the "Oh Sherry" video, by Steve Perry, back in the 80's.

Thanks crew. Thanks fans. Thanks Smallville.

I love you all,

Michael Rosenbaum

Details for Season 8:

Additionally, two new villains will join the cast of characters on "Smallville" this season: the legendary, unstoppable Doomsday, and a female antagonist who will challenge Clark in ways never before imagined. Casting is underway for both roles.

Doomsday: In season eight, Clark will face his ultimate challenge with the appearance of the legendary, unstoppable destroyer Doomsday, who appears on "Smallville" for the first time. As comic book fans know, Doomsday is notorious for being the only character in the DC Comics universe to have killed Superman.

Female villain: Doomsday won't be Clark's only nemesis in the upcoming season. The executive producers are tight-lipped about a new female villain they will be introducing, but they can say she will be familiar to many fans and will set her sights on Clark in ways Lex never could. Intelligent, brilliantly manipulative, and dangerously sinister, our gorgeous new villain has one more weapon in her arsenal: Her mutual attraction with Clark may prove to be as deadly as kryptonite for him.

SMALLVILLE goes for Season Nine
Wednesday, February 25, 2009 05:05 AM STARLOG.com STARLOG - Television

After rumors and speculation pointed to a possible end for SMALLVILLE this season, The CW was able to secure a new deal for star Tom Welling, enabling the series to receive a season nine pickup. The network announced today via The Hollywood Reporter that SMALLVILLE would return, along with another fan fave, SUPERNATURAL.

THR also stated that "Two of the show's co-showrunners, Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin, are off to shepherd the CW's "MELROSE PLACE" pilot. If "MELROSE" is picked up to series, "SMALLVILLE" would be steered next year by the two remaining co-showrunners, Kelly Sounders and Brian Peterson."

I am a smallville fan pero dapat noon pa nila tinapos yun, dapat walang Doomsday and Lois Lane in the first place. Pero siyempre wala naman tayong magagawa dun. Is season 8 the last season of smallville?

^^It has always been that way ever since season 3. Talagang mabagal yung pace. It always feels like a season is filled with filler episodes after filler episodes. Nakakasawa talaga lalo na yung mga "Freak of the weak" episodes. How lame. >:(

Yeah, it's so slow. But I watched and episode of Season 9 and I think there's more action and it's darker. I didn't know Callum Blue from Dead Like Me was in this season. Cool.

Laura Vandervoort Returns to Smallville
by Silas Lesnick
Jul 13th, 2010

Laura Vandervoort will be making a return to "Smallville" for one episode this season, reports Entertainment Weekly.

Vandervoort will again play Kara Zor-El, cousin to Tom Welling's Clark Kent and the would-be Supergirl,  last seen in the series' eighth season heading off in search of the Kryptonian city of Kandor.

As "Smallville" has announced plans for the tenth season to be its last, this episode, set to air in October, will most likely wrap Vandervoort's character's arc completely.

Season Premiere: 9/24/10

You have to hand it to Smallville - very few series last ten seasons, yet here we are, watching Clark Kent enter Season 10, having survived the death of his original network and several time slot shifts. The final season of the show looks to be a big one, with several returning characters, including Jonathan Kent (John Schneider), Lionel Luthor (John Glover) and Kara/Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort) slated for guest appeaeances.

Meanwhile, Clark will deal with the coming of Darkseid and meet new DC-based characters, including Deadshot, Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. It will all lead up to next year's series finale, as fans cross their fingers that we'll finally see Clark don the famous red and blue costume (which Martha Kent gave to him last season), and perhaps, if we're lucky, take on Lex Luther once more – if Michael Rosenbaum agrees to reprise the role.

Smallville Finale to Air May 13th
Feb 7th, 2011

The CW has announced the schedule for the final episode of their hit series "Smallville," which will wrap its ten-year run on May 13th with a two-hour finale at 8:00pm EST. The exact plot and title of the final episode are still under wraps, but the official press release describes the finale as follows:

The story of a young Clark Kent (Tom Welling) and his journey to become the Man of Steel has captivated audiences for a decade. This final season, Clark attempts to find a balance between saving the world, which becomes even more difficult as the Vigilante Registration Act separates a nation, and spending time with his new fiancée Lois Lane (Erica Durance). Whether it's donning glasses as a disguise, changing in a phone booth or learning how to fly, this season has put Clark closer to his destiny than ever before. Taking on Darkseid and battling the darkest of his demons, this two-hour event will send Clark soaring towards his birthright to secure his place in history as the world's greatest protector.

"Paying homage to 10 seasons is no small task, and wrapping up each character and story arc has been extremely important to everyone involved in the show," said executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders. "We're excited to be able to make the final moments of 'Smallville' a television event, as the character we've grown up with makes his legendary transformation."

That was lame. All talk, no payoff. Was it a licensing thing with Warner or something? We didn't even see him in the suit. That's supposed to be the freakin' climax of the entire series for cryin' out loud.

it was tom's decision, if i remember around season 8 he said that he is not going to wear that "lame" suit ever. which is very stupid of him imho

even with the limited budget the finale was great fixing all those lose ends and bring back jimmy and lex,
but i wish lana was there with her super kryptonic powers  ;D

Then he deserves what is probably the lamest conclusion to a superhero show. I only watched specifically because I wanted to see how he'd earn the power of flight and wear the suit.

I thought the ending scene was perfect. As for the CGI Supes, my guess would be Warner had a hand in it. The studio probably was apprehensive about moviegoers comparing Tom Welling with Henry Caville which might bite them once the Superman reboot is released.
