Title: Worst Week
Post by: indie boi on Sep 25, 2008 at 08:20 AM
One of the series premieres this week is Worst Week. a thirty minute comedy about a guy who's about to be married and the absolutely crazy things that happen to him in the week before his wedding. Absolutely hilarious and great reminder of how hard it is sometimes to try and impress your fiancee's parents.

The series is actually taken from the British original The Worst Week of My Life. The good thing here is that the American version didn't copy the antics of the Brit version so what you get is twice the goodness.

           I just thought of the american version of Lars Von Trier's THE KINGDOM (RIGET) KINGDOM HOSPITAL executive produced by Stephen King. In this one, it got mixed reviews and got the better of the hostile criticisms and low viewership that it lasted only a single season. Despite creepy setting and supernatural undertones, it has its moment of weird yet funny situations. Good thing (and hopefully) this show (WORST WEEK) doesn't follow suit.

Kingdom Hospital wasn't really a sitcom--it was a horror-comedy miniseries with an option for a second season that never materialized due to low ratings.

One of the best examples of a UK sitcom remade into a successful USA sitcom was Man About The House, which became Three's Company. A more recent example would be The Office.

      Yes, but it has parallelism with WORST WEEK in terms of TV adaptation from a foreign show.

A number of classic US sitcoms were actually remakes of UK telly comedies:

               UK            =         USA
- 'til Death Us Do Part = All In The Family
- Steptoe & Son        = Sanford & Son

The pilot was terrible, since it was an inferior remake of the Christmas special of the Brit series. The rest was quite watchable, actually.

(Sorry... just caught up with the show recently.  ;D)
