Sure, u can rip your blu-ray movies to your HDD. And u just need a blu-ray ripper to help u.
I am using Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper (http://www.pavtube.com/blu-ray-ripper/) to help me rip blu-ray movies including Avatar to my HDD. It is easy to use to rip blu-ray to mkv to my HDD with good quality. Besides, i still can encode mkv files with ac3 5.1

How long does it take to rip 1 bluray film? ???

Good ques. Just to add on: How long does it rip & convert the required files into the hard drive?
Also, how much is a BD-Rom drive now?

easy to estimate...BDROM has only a read rate of 4X, so if you have a 25gig movie to be read with a C2D or Phenom processor at max read rate a 2hour movie should be done by 20minutes much like DVD ripping before, however, it also depends on the efficiency of your software in decrypting and the processor being use. Like in the old days a 4.5Gig DVD can take to almost 45 minutes due to the early decrypting software and the max 4X read file which is almost always functional only at 2X.

Yes. You need Pavtube ByteCopy Bluray to MKV Software(http://www.pavtube.com/bytecopy/).
* Create MKV files from recently released Blu-ray discs and DVDs.
* Crack Blu-ray discs protected with AACS and BD+ up to MKB v20.
* Preserve multiple subs and audio tracks/Remove unwanted subs/tracks.
* Retain chapter markers/Support lossless output.
* Allow full preservation of HD audios, like DTS HD Master Audio, Dolby TrueHD Audio.
* Output DTS 6 channels, AC3 6 channels, AAC 6 channels, PCM 6 channels, MP3 6 channels…
* Preserve soundtracks and subs in multiple languages, e.g. English, Spanish, French, Deutsch…
You can play the lossless MKV files with VLC Media Player.
