PQ of s-video is slightly less (or sometimes almost the same as) component video. so there should be a marginal improvement vs composite (yellow rca) video.

S-VIDEO is nothing to scoff at. In the absence of higher grade signal inputs like Component, DVI and HDMI, S-Video is the only route that gives both TV and player the chance to be extracted of their maximum best in picture resolution. In fact a TV that has S-Video is a very respectable model, it means its made to give a higher quality picture. When it comes to channel receivers & decoders, the benefits of S-Video transmission are: Less pixel grain and better accentuated color. Try it you're bound to like it.
