Title: cd-wow.com > free delivery around the world?
Post by: lizzi_b on Jan 28, 2003 at 08:58 AM
Just discovered this site www.cd-wow.com, it claims to have free delivery worldwide  :o  Is this true? Is this the same as free shipping? has anyone tried this site?

Yes, the free delivery offer is genuine. I order most of my Region 1 DVDs from CD-WOW these days. Quick delivery and great customer service. By the way, www.cd-wow.com lists prices in British pounds. If you want prices in US dollars, go to www.cd-wow.net.

I tried ordering from them last year but they kept rejecting my order because they say my billing address is erroneous when it is not. I checked and checked and checked it - even verified it against my card company - but to no avail. Eventually, after 3 rejections, I gave up.

They do have great customer service though as I asked them several times about that billing address problem and they were very polite. They also responded quickly to my queries - didn't take them a day to shoot back a reply e-mail.

I have a question though Jun - where does your stuff get delivered to? Is it delivered directly to your specified address or does it get routed to the post office?

Gumby,
I live in the UK and my orders get delivered direct to my door. My last order was shipped on a Monday and it arrived on Wednesday. Three days is pretty amazing considering CD-WOW ships from Hong Kong.

They don't use any courier - just ordinary postal service, in my case Royal Mail.

Is your friend from Knightsbridge a DVD addict too?

I've already shopped at cd-wow.com & cd-wow.com.hk four times already. Delivery will take 5 to 10 days by post. Impressive ang service nila so far, though their catalogue is not that extensive and they usually run out of stock. Highly recommended for your dvd and audio cd shopping!

Only P30.00? No hefty additional customs tax? I had to pay over P1,100 the last time I ordered abroad (amazon.com)

Yeah on PHP30.00/dvd but that is if you only order up to 2 pcs, that is what the person in the Makati post office told me as pag 3 pcs and up commercial qty na daw.  Lucky for me, kasi I orderd 3 titles and one was delivered directly to me and the other 2 I had to go and get sa post office so total of PHP60.00 lang.  ;D

I'm just curious how they determine which ones to deliver to your doorstep and which ones not to, by value ba?

for makati... sometimes (sigh).. anything that is below P500.00 peso value is delivered directly. also, global priority mail boxes ,small packages and not so obvious dvd packages go straight to our office...

sometimes naman, P450.00 declared value lang.. you have to pick them up na in the PO. swerte swerte lang talaga pag minsan... not really happy with the customs admin in makati...  >:(

Oh I see, so by value nga.  It was the first time I got my DVD's delivered to my office address as I usally put my home address but since malapit office ko sa Makati post office - dito na lang.

Well, I too am not happy with our PO as they are not consistent.  So good luck na lang sa atin lahat!  ;)

Just made my first CD-Wow transaction two days ago.  I just learned through their site that my order has already been dispatched today.  I originally ordered through www.cd-wow.com.hk.  However, I got an email that they don't accept anymore orders through their HK site for addresses outside of Hongkong.  I was therefore asked to make my order through www.cd-wow.com, although I made mine with www.cd-wow.net.

Anyway, I was informed that it would take about a week or about 10 working days for it arrive here in the Philippines.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will indeed arrive within that period.   Balak ko pa kasing mag-order.  Mas mura talaga kaysa sa amazon, although mas limited ang choices.

Medyo matagal when ordering at cd-wow.At mura talaga.I remember ordering E.T. collectors edition I think that was 2003 pa.  and It's around 765 pesos only at that time.nagsale kasi.  But the problem at cd-wow is they don't replenish anymore thier items.  And if they have no more stock for a particular title, it will be erase sa database nila.  so  you wont see it again at their site even though you run a search. and another thing.  Almost all of the available R1 titles are canadian release.  I go for R3 limited editions. They have the lowest price compared to other sites. :)

Thanks for the info, baby!  It's really too bad that they don't accept orders anymore through their HK site.  Mas mabilis sana since sa Hongkong lang galing 'yung package.  When you say "medyo matagal when ordering at cd-wow", ano ang experience mo before?  Umaabot ba ng 2 to 3 weeks, just like amazon?

My order has arrived at the post office!  Yesterday, when I was on-leave from work, the post office (which is also within our office)  called up my office regarding the package.  I've just picked my package from the post office.  True to their word, the arrival was within 10 working days from its dispatch.  Actually, the package was dispatched April 9 and it arrived in the Batasan Post Office last April 14!  Compared with amazon, cd-wow's service is faster, wala pang delivery charge!

So far I only had two orders with CD-Wow and some more pending in my wishlist.
One went through well and the other was also well but the DVD didn't reach me.
Good thing they automatically reimburse what doesn't get through and they are so easy to deal with.

Looking to finally get Resident Evil: Apocalypse before it is lost forever from their site.

The Makati P.O. on the other hand is one heck of a source for P.O.'d citizens. (pissed off)  >:(  >:(  >:(
One of their male dispatchers actually told me that I was lucky to be getting my item from them because I will be only charged 30Php. If I were unfortunate enough to deal with their lady colleague I would have been meted a higher charge. (can't confirm if he was pulling my leg or really telling the truth)

Just placed an order for RE:Apocalypse. It's at this site: http://www1.cd-wow.com.hk
Isn't this in Hong Kong  ???  My wishlist and membership is here and I always order here.

I don't think that they will be honoring your order made through www.cd-wow.com.hk.  When I ordered from them some weeks back, I initially ordered through their Hongkong site.  Although the transaction was initially successful and I already received confirmation from WorldPay, I later received an email, as follows:

Hello,

Thank you for your recent order with CD WOW!

I am afraid that we are no longer able to accept orders through our Hong
Kong site that are to be shipped to anywhere other than addresses in Hong
Kong, therefore your order and been cancelled and a full refund made back to
the card used on it.

For future purchases please use www.cd-wow.com and we will be pleased to
accept your orders.

We thank you very much for your custom.

Kind Regards

CD WOW!

So, the order was cancelled and the purchase amount was appropriately credited back to my account.   That was when I ordered through www.cd-wow.net (which quotes in dollars).

Nyak! I just received confirmation of processing from their payment processor.
Now waiting for the confirmation as you received in your post  :(

I wish they fixed their site so placing orders are no longer possible for users with addresses outside of Hong Kong.

Good for you!  If you're going to compare the prices in the Hongkong site with the prices in the UK site, the Hongkong site is cheaper by a few pesos.

Just recently tried CD-Wow and their free delivery.  It does beat the prices at Amazon and CD connection with their shipping charges.  But theyhave limited CD titles compared with amazon.   I just hope the local postal bureau don't mess things up like they did with my previous purchases with CD Connection.

CD-WOW.COM is priced in GB pounds and the CD-WOW.NET is priced in Euros.   What exchange rates are you using with the peso?  Thanks.  I had an online site do the exchange rate calculation but am not sure if that would be the same rate used by credit cards.

If you're accessing cd-wow.net, you have a choice of prices either in US dollars or German Deutschemarks.  To know the estimated Philippine peso equivalent, I access www.xe.com/ucc which converts various currencies using mid-market rates.  However, the actual peso equivalent just like when ordering from amazon or other online store is dependent on the current conversion rate of your credit card.

You're right, I didn't notice those two countries of choice on the left column.

And that's also the site i'm using for the exchange rate.

Mukhang mas mahal sa CD-Wow with their $ pricing.  The Clone Wars DVD at amazon is only $13.99.  $16.95 sa CD-Wow.  Pero cheaper pa rin when you add shipping charges.

My hats off to CD-WOW for efficient and friendly customer service!

My 2 DVD orders have not arrived after nearly three weeks from order date.  Informed them about it via email and got a prompt reply (within minutes) that they will ship another set to me, no questions asked.

After another two weeks, no deliveries.  Informed them about it and the reply was even faster than before.  They'll refund my payments thanking me again for patronizing them.  Within minutes I got a refund message to take effect within 5 days.

How I wish I can still get more CDs and DVDs from them.  But if those orders continue to get lost in the mail, I don't see much point.

This is already the third time my orders got lost in the mail.  The first two were from Amazon.  Wonder if the Paranaque post office is to blame.  >:(

Last Oct. 10, I ordered the Region 3 2-disc Special Edition of X-Men 3.  Although my order was initially cancelled due to a problem with my billing address, I was able to successfully make another order.  The DVD was sent out Oct. 12 and was delivered on Oct. 18 -- less than a week after it was dispatched.  The site I ordered I ordered from was cd-wow.com.  I've read somewhere that it was better to order from their Hongkong site (cd-wow.com.hk) since mabilis daw ang delivery.  I guess delivery time is the same whether you order through cd-wow.com, cd-wow.com.hk, or cd-wow.net -- since their stocks come from Hongkong.  Nagkakaiba lang sa currencies.

I'm very satisfied with the delivery time, free delivery and reasonable price (P835.00 as compared to P900 for 2-disc Viva releases).  However, nabigla ako when I opened the package to find that the DVD case was not wrapped or sealed in plastic, unlike R1 DVDs or even locally purchased DVDs na lagi naka-seal in plastic shrink-wrap.   Although the discs inside were in very good condition (no scratches), nagtataka lang ako kung bakit hindi siya naka-seal.  I've written CD-Wow regarding this matter and I received the following reply:

"Please be informed that item we receive from the manufacturers are sometimes not laminated due to cut in cost from their side.

However, i can assure that the items are all genuine and are of superior quality."

Since this is the first time I've ordered a Hongkong R3 DVD, I would just like to confirm with other members who have ordered or bought DVDs from Hongkong kung hindi nga kadalasan naka-seal ang mga ito.   Nagtataka lang ako kung bakit sila nagtitipid sa plastic seal?  I'm not used to buying brand-new DVDs na hindi naka-seal.
 ???

just got my very first order from cd-wow, shipped last thu. i dont know if their airmail shipping is fast or singapore's PO system is that good. also got the dvd sealed. they're very recommended indeed with their fast shipping and great customer service. i have two complains though. first, the dvd had no bubblewrap protection. maybe because i only ordered one. anyway, got it in good condition. second, the declared value is printed in the box, a risk of being charged with custom tax.

CD-Wow seems not to have any standard in terms of packaging.  My last order was just one dvd and it came in a box lined with bubble wrap -- 'yung nga lang hindi naka-seal 'yung DVD.  Tapos, the declared value on the sticker label was deliberately covered with packing tape.  But I have to say that their service is quite fast.    They responded quickly to my email messages and of course, the DVD arrived in just a few days.

cd-wow.us now states that it will receive orders only coming from the US and Canada.  This is new....as I just managed to buy an Audio CD from this website a couple of weeks ago.

So, what cd-wow webpage should I use to order from Manila and have the stuff sent to Manila?

i still haven't made orders from cd-wow and amazon because i'm scared of the billing. do these two necessary need their customers to have a credit card? because i prefer to pay them in cash, i mean, through atm or cash deposit in a bank stating their account numbers, etc. I still haven't applied for a credit card, therefore i do not have one.

so do i really need a credit card first in order for me to place an order?

Finally tried this out and i would echo all the praises previously posted... their customer service is FAST!!!

My order was late by a few days so I emailed them as a followup. Not only did they respond in a matter of minutes, they even offered to reverse my transaction after one email exchange! Though the next day the item finally showed up, so I had to do the right thing :)

I don't think it matters which site u transact with, I went through the UK website but the package stated that it was shipped from HK...

Hi Guys! ;D I had just placed an order with CDWOW for two dvd titles as they were really cheap.
>Mr. & Mrs. Smith R1 for HK$50.00; and
>Underworld: 2 disc Extended Edition R2 for HK$50.00
Total order is HK$100.00 x Php5.16 per HK$ = Php516.00 only with free shipping.

We'll see how long it will take for this to be delivered or picked-up from the post office.
I will certainly post results for this transaction. Hopefully everything goes well. ;D

Since my last post, I tried to check the PO number they provided me online, so that I can check the status of my order. When I entered the number in, the website said that there is no order with that number in their records. :o I immediately emailed customer service and provided all the details they need to be able to trace my order. After 30 or some minutes, I got a reply from them stating that the order is in and has been processed. It is waiting to be picked-up by the postman and they said that I can expect it to be  delivered within 6-8 days. ;D I shall post an update once I get them. ;)

CD-WOW gives an innovative method to circumvent added retail cost by ordering the DVD or the CD from its supplier stripped of its plastic packing and utilizing a cheaper postal delivery route called World Post. If not for the e-mail and text messaging, a cheaper postal service such as World Post would not have been offered because media items like CD or DVDs are normally imposed a tariff or Customs tax. Due to the massive slowdown of the postal service being an anachronistic snail mail in an age of e-mail - they're gasping for a another breath of life by offering World Post. The only (insignificant) drawback is that CD-WOW could not collectively mail your total order in one package because to do so is to get "noticed' - by the tariff police.
But I have no cause to complain about that. Its a brilliant idea that if known by more Filipino videophiles, could impact Amazon's DVD business' purse. Wow's mad-genius marketing scheme delivers two salivating benefits: comparatively lowest cost retail price and fast delivery. A lethal combination indeed.
But then Wow seems to be a European-based operation with a British principal, hence in 9 out of 10 cases their film stock is coded at Region 2 & 4. For players thats locked up at Region 3, its an inconvenience. But for folks like me who sees a Region-3 locked equipment as a bedlam straighjacket being twined around a player, and so wisely take a ZERO Region hardware - a PAL DVD is a godsend. Thats because at  576 video line resolution it technically offers a better, more detailed picture than any NTSC-set disks.
The site's inventory, admittedly, is very limited but its only from Wow that I finally got a DVD copy of an obscure, hopelessly forgotten film called FIRE ICE & DYNAMITE. A film about a mad race similar to 1960s Its A Mad Mad World but transplanted in the 1990s and has a hundred times more kinetics, testosterone and adrenaline thrills. As well, I finally got a copy of a Europe-only musical documentary called THE STYLE COUNCIL ON FILM - a staple DVD for New Wave-era nostalgists whose musical eclectism also meant having relished too 80s jazz and exotic lounge music.
You just hope that your CD-WOW packet will not get the rapacious attention from the mga halang ang kaluluwa sa post office....

New Update...I went to the Post Office this morning, excited pick-up my order. ;D I presented the notice and they pulled out my package. I was a little worried when I saw that the package. ??? It looked like there was just one dvd in it. The package is a white disc mailer with built-in bubble wrap. The post office personnel asked for an I.D. and made me sign at the log book. I paid the Php35.00 fee. The post office personnel informed me that he is going to open the package. I asked why, and he said that it was mandatory to do so...customs inspection purposes. I said yes, and he openned it. My hunch was right! Only one of the two dvd's I ordered was in it. :o Only the Underworld dvd was mailed.

As promised...here are photos! ;)

Sir Taurus was right. I thought that both my dvd's were going to be there at the post office once I picked it up...hinde pala. Like I said, when I got home from the post office, after I had claimed my first dvd, the postman arrives in our house handing me the notice for my second dvd. :P I'll be claiming this tomorrow morning. ;D

I shall post photos as well. ;D

Overall, my experience in ordering dvd's from cd-wow.com has been very good. ;D From the time I ordered them, upto the time I received the packages, total turnaround time was 12 days (Feb. 28 to Mar. 11). The price is not bad as well. HK$100.00 x Php5.16 = Php516.00 + Php70.00 = Php586.00 for both R1 and R2 dvd's. The dvd's are in very good condition and have no damages due to shipping and handling. ;) I will surely be ordering again in the future. For everyone who plans to order in the future, may this experience be of use to you...Good luck on your future orders guys and Happy On-line Shopping!!! ;D

Juric, i I may answer your question RE: credit card charges:

I bought "300" from cd-wow for HKD 89 using my credit card. Citibank billed me php 478 (or php5.3 = 1HKd). No other surcharges reflected.

However, until now I have not received my DVD.

Pertinent summary:

Feb 28, 2008 - Transaction Confirmation notice was emailed to my account
March 18, 2008 - I emailed [email protected] informing them that I did not receive my DVD
March 19, 2008 - cd-wow sent me a Dispatch Notification thru email, telling me that I should receive the package with in 7 days.
April 6, 2008 - I again emailed cd-wow telling them that I did not receive my DVD.
April 7, 2008 - I received this email from cd-wow.

Hmmm, all my orders with cd-wow were all sent to my house, not picked up at my local post office. Unlike Amazon, where all my purchases with them have to be picked up at the post office and I have to pay the P35.00 fee.

Now, I have to email cd-wow to cancel the refund process.
