Newb and his Sound Field Processor
« on: Feb 25, 2010 at 07:30 PM »
Thank you for your help in advance. I have this Pioneer SP-700D part of a hi-fi loot I got a while back and I have absolutely no idea how to hook it up.

I have a basic idea on what it does - http://audio-database.com/PIONEER-EXCLUSIVE/etc/sp-700d-e.html

Its just I have no freakin clue on how to hook it up and to which unit do I hook it up. I have an amp/preamp setup and an AVR on a separate set-up. I'm hoping to hook this up with the amp/preamp set-up. Do i need to get another unit?

Thank you.

it's the first gen of DSP (digital signal processor) to simulate sorround sound or ambiance from stereo signal source. if you already have pre/pro + amp setup and AVR for digital decoding, it's redundant to hook it in the chain,  IMHO. ...  ::)

Thank you sir. Well the AVR is not hook up to the pre/amp. Can I put this unit in the loop with the pre/amp set up?

Sorry finally got my answer.

These units would accept a two-channel signal from the output of a preamplifier and synthesize up to three additional audio channels. The left-front and right-front channels - the original two-channel source - were also modified by the processor. The line-level outputs from the processor were then connected to power amplifiers, one channel of amplification per processor channel, which were used to drive the speakers

Stereo system with sound processor:
Source >> Preamp >> Processor >> Power amps (5) >> Speakers (5)

Some processors also included three power amplifiers for the centre, left-rear, and right-rear channels. The two-channel audio signal from the preamp was connected to the processor / amplifier. The processor / amplifier's right-front and left-front channels line-level outputs were connected to power amplifiers to drive the left-front and right-front speakers and the speakers for the centre, left-rear, and right-rear channels were connected directly to the processor / amplifier.
