Topic: Denon 2310 problem: No sound produced except from subwoofer

Hi PinoyDVD! I would appreciate if you can advice me on how to troubleshoot my problem with my Denon 2310, before I send it for repair.

My setup:
 - Denon 2310
 - Anthony's AAudio custom speakers, including 12" subwoofer
 - Cal's Speaker wires for front and center speakers
 - HDPro
 - Pioneer DV220 DVD Player
 - JojoD's Baby G
 - Panasonic 50C10
 - Superpro DAC
 - Maldol 2000 watts Servo AVR
 - BADA line conditioner

I manually disconnect the speaker wires from the Denon 2310 and connect
them to the Baby G when listening to music.  Then during weekends,
I reconnect the speaker wires back to my Denon.  This morning, when I
connected the speaker wires to my Denon, there was no sound coming from
all speakers except the subwoofer.  I tried to troubleshoot the problem
by:
1. Checking if the Denon was muted or low volume - negative
2. Disconnecting and reconnecting all speaker wires from the Denon - no sound
3. Disconnecting and reconnecting all speaker wires from the speakers - no sound
4. Testing the front speakers if working perfectly with Baby G - no problem
5. Testing the surround speakers if working perfectly with Baby G - no problem
6. Tried to isolate the problem by connecting only the front speakers - still no sound
7. Last option was to reset my Denon to factory settings then run Audyssey - cannot detect speaker/mic

To test the sound, I used the test tones, FM tuner, and DVD player. Still no sound.

There seems to be no problem with video, though. And the unit does not shut off.
No blinking red lights either.

Do you have other suggestions for troubleshooting? Or should I send it for repair?  The good thing is it's still under warranty.

Denon AVR's have an option for a hard reset. There's a particular key sequence that you press and it must be in the manual. Why don't you try that first?

If that fails, send it in for repair.

Are you using coax and optical cable ba? baka sila ang may problem at hindi ang AVR... had the same problem with my coax cable, had to re-solders the wire lang then it worked naman...

Baka din sa settings (Audio Setup) ng source bro, try mo din i-check settings ng source mo like nmt, dvdplayer, cd player, etc...

and also check the pre-outs of your denon, baka may mga jumper na misplaced or switch na di tama...

Tinawagan ko na kanina yung shop kung saan ko na-purchase yung Denon.  Kung di ko pa rin ma-solve,
then dadalhin ko na sa kanila bukas. Then try siguro namin i-test sa kanila para ma-confirm kung may problema nga.

Yung sa mga sources, lahat HDMI cables. I tried the DVD player, pero sa subwoofer lang ang may output.
Tapos ginamit ko na rin yung FM tuner ng denon.  Ganun din, subwoofer din lang ang may tunog.

Nilinis ko rin yung mga connection ports ng denon, baka lang marumi. Pero wala pa rin.

Salamat guys sa mga input.  Will double check again everything pag dating ko sa bahay.  Pag ayaw talaga,
no choice kundi ipa-repair na.

I will. Most likely later this year. Hopefully, matuloy yung napag-usapan namin ni master Jojo.

kung subwoofer lang ang gumagana, meaning preout lang ang active. this could be the cause.   yan na lang ang huling alas na alam ko. hth

Try to connect your sources via optical and coax naman para mas ma-isolate yung problem, baka may tunog pag coax and optical, try mo din analog connection... kapag gumana lahat, baka hdmi port ang may problem or yung HDMI cable lang (hopefully)... Goodluck

basta ang tingin ko:
1. speaker set to B --  altough na check na pero just check again.
2. internal amp disabled kasi ok ang preout -- pero sub lang ang may preout di ba? meaning walan option para gamitan ng jumper? baka nasa settings lang. aksidenteng napindot.

pwede bang similar case sa video setting: interlaced/progressive

sana masolve mo sa bahay para less hassle.

applicable yun sir pag lumang equipment minsan loose connection or stuck-up switch/relays. pero itong denon bago eh, kaya not recommended.

i doubt. kung ito problem dapat gagana fm. malamang internal problem na talaga. baka yung speaker relays (o yung nagsu-supply ng power sa relay) busted. kung protection circuit naman ang problem di mag-o-on ang unit. kung sa settings dapat ok na after reset to default. ano nga kaya?

Nice thing about this receiver is that it has a complete 8-channel pre-out just below the CE sign.  It looks like your amp section has died if nothing else works.  

Personally, I'd consider that a blessing of sorts as I consider power amps in receivers as mediocre anyway.   But it can act as a Preamp-AV Processor. AV receivers are really Pre-pros with power amps thrown in as freebies.  You're actually paying for all those AV processing decoder licenses.

If I had this problem, I'd go to a technician and simply have the power amp disabled entirely.  Then get a more powerful high current multichannel power amps.  This Denon will make an excellent separate pre-pro.  


PS.  There's a set of 8-channel EXT IN below the Pre-Out, you could have the analoque power amps confirmed if OK by injecting a signal to the Ext In. If your DVD player has an output control, you can connect its multichannel output directly to EXT-in and just use the output control as the volume control. If this works, it means there's a problem in the Preamp buffer IC that's inputing sound to the main amp.

may preout pala. try mo connect preouts to babyG in. pag gumana, sa relay/amp section na talaga ang problem. if that's the case...
