Display problem connecting HTPC to LCD TV
« on: Jun 11, 2009 at 12:38 PM »
Guys, any idea bakit garbled/washed-out/basta parang hindi maka display ng maayos yung LCD TV ko kapag nakakabit sa HTPC ko? Pero pag nag re-boot ako na naka-disconnect yung VGA cable sa LCD TV tapos kinabit ko after boot-up (nasa desktop na) maayos na yung display nya. Bakit kaya ganun pag nakakabit yung VGA cable sa LCD pagnag boot up eh sira yung display kailangan ko pang tanggalin muna yung VGA cable sa likod ng CPU tapos boot-up then pag narinig ko na yung windows startup sound kakabit ko na yung VGA cable back eh ok na sya. Any idea?

HTPC spec:
MSI 780G board
Video using VGA cable kasi walang HDMI or DVI yung board

LCD TV:
Hitachi A01

DAMaster, what is the mobo's model number? Baka kapareho tayo.

Since you can't tell which is which, can you use a "unimpeachable" source for your LCD, another PC or notebook?

It would appear that sa particular LCD HDTV mo, 1:1 pixel mapping is implemented sa VGA and not through HDMI.   Kaya malinaw sa VGA.   In other words, ang standard PC connection on your HDTV should be VGA.   Check mo yung manual ng LE8 to know the maximum resolution it supports under VGA.

This case is common - unfortunately.

Have you tried connecting through each HDMI input.  Minsan, and again depende sa model and make, a specific HDMI connector is meant for PC connection (kase nandun lang sa video channel na yung yung pixel mapping).  For example in Samsung's case, I think it's HDMI1 or 2 tapos you have to rename the Video Channel as "PC" pa.

na set ko narin sa lahat ng resolution using hdmi ganun pa din sir masyadong blury   :( but sa vga kayang kaya niya kahit sagad malinaw parin...

ibig sabhin di uubra ang Panasonic LE8 sa pc using hdmi???

Hindi sa di uubra.  Ibig sabihin the intended PC interface for that particular LCD TV is VGA kase hindi optimized yung HDMI ports mo to receive digital signals from a PC.   Bale hindi makayang madisplay ng TV yung pixel by pixel signal na na-fe-feed from the PC through HDMI.   Through VGA, puede kaso analog nga lang.   That is not uncommon.

Try to check the manual of your LE8 and find out the descriptions about PC input, Dot-to-Dot, 1:1 Pixel Mapping or Just Scan (kung meron man).

So when you buy an LCD HDTV or Plasma HDTV and you intend to connect it to a PC for regular computing, make sure to verify that the model you're interested in can do 1:1 pixel mapping via HDMI because this feature is not standard to all HDTVs.   For example Samsung model A550 is supposed to be able to do this quite nicely - crisp and clear texts (daw).  My 32LG50 can "somehow" do this via HDMI but not quite perfect.

BTW, kahit blurry man yung texts, when you play a movie through the PC and feed it to the HDTV, it should look fine.

Balik tayo sa HDMI.  Try mo nga effect kung totally minimized ang Sharpness setting.  As in ZERO.  That should make the texts more readable.

@hyperpath: i have a Panasonic 32LX80 LCD TV. i am content with the VGA connection since it gives the best PQ in my TV. i have already done various configuration using:

1. LX80 + HTPC with Emaxx AMD780-PRO(128) via HDMI
2. LX80 + Asus Notebook with ATI HD3470 via HDMI
3. LX80 + NEC Notebook with Intel 4500MHD via HDMI

all the above setup resulted in poor PQ as compared to VGA connection. but when using my Philips HDMI DVD player, the PQ is good. this made me conclude that my TV does not fully support PC connection via HDMI (or I just hadn't found the right settings yet).

here is the HDMI and PC pages on the Panasonic manual (valid for both LX80 and LX800 series):

Sorry pero mukhang iba yung problem ko kasi yung mga setup nyo may HDMI yung sa akin wala.  Sa VGA lang ako nag connect kasi yun lang meron sa board ko.  Follow-up question, ano yung nakalagay sa monitor properties nyo sa display settings.  sa akin kasi default monitor lang ayaw mag plug and play monitor.  sa tingin ko may effect yun kung bakit ayaw mag display kapag pre-attached na yung vga cable sa LCD TV ko.

@DAMAster: my Panasonic LX80 is connected to HTPC via VGA cable. it is detected as "Default VGA monitor" as well.

1.  First of all, have you gotten in touch with LG to confirm if it's actually workable to connect a PC via one of the HDMI inputs on that specific model?  Could be some handshaking issues, could be out of range video settings, or could simply be your HDMI ports are not meant for PC connection.

2.  I have a 32LG50 in Manila and if I remember correctly, HDMI 1 is distinctively labeled as PC Input too -in addition to the VGA port.

3.  If you have 2 video outs from your PC, could you try connecting both VGA and DVI-HDMI simultaneously?

i have a LG 32LG53FR and connected it with my BENQ laptop with dedicated graphics card (ATI RADEON 256MB) through DVI-HDMI cable.  i used both HDMI-DVI and HDMI1, and showed good PQ, no problem encountered at all.  i surf the internet and played with farcry 2.  now im planning to either assemble dedicated  CPU for HTPC and gaming or just a WDTV and 1 TB wd.   ;D

Sir, try to check the video settings of the game. Maybe the video resolution is way too high for your TV to handle.

It has to do with the frequency rate. If your display is above 60 Hz it will never dispaly any image - out of frequency.

I had a 32Le8 (sold already) and it flicker sometime or no display at all when the frequency rate is above 60hz or unstable frequency occurrences.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents. I've read somewhere in the forums that there are LCDs that you'd have to re-label the HDMI for the PC to "PC" for the settings to work. Otherwise, you'll have a bad image - washed out, blurry edges and fonts.

Try This:
1) Reboot
2) hit F8 go tto the Boot Choice, then hit F8 again
3) you'll see the choices for Safe Mode etc.....choose Enable VGA, you'll get the lowest resoultion possible for your LCD/Plasma
4) Once you get logged, right click to display, now choose and configure the display's best setting gradually.
