HELP: Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 THX powered HT audio system
« on: Jun 21, 2011 at 05:31 AM »
I've got this Klipsch system which has been functioning and working perfectly for me for so many years.

This is a 5.1 THX system with an external control pod box which plugs into the back of the subwoofer via a 9-pin DIN plug.

The problem is that last Saturday I was cleaning the back of the table where I placed the subwoofer on the floor and I accidentally stepped on the DIN plug that plugs into the SW. Result: The DIN plug got bent slightly. Nothing wrong with the SW or anything else - just that the main body of the plug got slightly bent.

When I manually straightened the plug and then plugged it back into the SW and I pressed the power on button of the control pod - NO POWER! I felt like crying because of this misshap. I removed the DIN plug and wiggled the base of the DIN plug where the wires enter the plug and plugged it back in, switched on the power and it went on for a while but when I move the wires the power went off again. So it appears some of the fine wires that go into the DIN plug housing assembly might have been damaged. This is a 9-pin DIN plug and I wonder if this particular type is available locally. Anyone knows where to find this part? I could always buy the part on ebay since this is available there and even go further by having to send the control pod to a repairman on ebay who repairs this stuff but that is so much hassle having to send the control pod to the US and then wait for it to be shipped back to me in the Philippines. Besides I'm a bit skeptic and worried because I have no guarantee on the reputation of this repair service person. I'd rather have the fixing done locally at least madali kong habulin kung may kapalpakan na gawin.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows of a good service electrician or repair center who can do a very good job of fixing and fine soldering this kind of stuff. I could always purchase the spare part and supply this to the repairman or center - it's just that I want someone who is careful and knows what he is doing and who can do a very good and quality job of re-soldering the connections of the new DIN plug as if it were new again (or even be able just to fix the existing DIN plug internal wiring). This is the only thing that has been damaged because of this accident. Bummer! Now I have to settle with a HT with only the TV and no HT audio. Grrr....

Please help!
