Starting a HT/music setup
« on: Jul 02, 2012 at 05:28 PM »
Hi, I'm thinking of improving the sounds for our LCD tv in our den. The room is approximately 25 sq m.  The system would mostly be used for tv viewing, some music and occasional (one a week) movies.

I'm thinking of getting a good pair of bookshelf speakers, say the wharfedale 9.1 or 9.2, a inexpensive T-amp such as the Lepai TA-2020 or Dayton DTA1. Then plugging this to the RCA out of my tv. Future upgrades would hopefully follow. :)

My questions:

1. Would the wharfedales sound good with the inexpensive amp or would it be wasted?

2. Could I use my digibox or DVD players' volume control to control the volume since the amps does not have any remote?

3. Are there any other speakers or amps I should consider?

I forgot to say that budget is P10k, buy might be slightly negotiable. :)

Thanks for your inputs!

I forgot to ask about inputs. I plan to plug an iPhone dock, LCD tv, possibly a network media player (raspberry pi or similar device to play music without turning on the tv). What would I need to plug them all to the amps since, I believe, it only has one input?

Thanks.

At that budget, i would buy a vintage amp. Madami dito sa PDvd. Madami din selectable inputs. Wharfs require significant power to sound good. I have a special liking sa 10 series nila. Kayang kaya i-drive ng 50w vintage amp.

i had a lepai ta-2020 before and had it drive a pair of wharfdale 9.3. maganda siya tumunog pero mismatched dahil nga medyo power hungry ang wharfs. second the motion ako sa advice ni master nelson, suyurin mo yung marketplace for decent vintage/secondhand amplifiers. more power to drive your speakers plus more iputs to suit your needs

Thank you all for your suggestions.

If I were to go with a more powerful or maybe a vintage amp as suggested by warmaster, should I consider these:

Marantz 2230 receiver or A100 power amp

NAD316 or APA150
http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php/topic,165178.0.html

NAD705 or Sansui 8080
http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php/topic,165147.0.html

How about the 30wpc of Topping TP22, is it still bitin?

Approximatley how many wpc would be needed? The specs says 20-100w power requirement, do I get something on the higher side?

Sorry I have many questions, newbie kasi. :)

Ganyan din ang tanong ko dati.

http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php/topic,163000.0.html

t-amp na lang ginamit ko. para tipid sa kuryente.:) ayos naman. no complains.

kinakabit ko yung kaiboer 1055+ tapos yung music source. y connector lang.

among these choices i'd go for the nad316 if budget permits. when it comes to t-amps kasi i take their power ratings with a grain of salt. the lepai t-amp is rated at 20wpc but i think actual power is less than that, around 12wpc siguro. one thing i learned from the gurus here, it doesn't hurt to have more power plus may dynamic headroom ka pa if and when the material being played demands for it.

don't get me wrong, i enjoyed my lepai although ang application ko is for near field and low level listening sessions. sweet talaga ang tunog at tipid sa kuryente. timbangin mo na lang sa type of music that you play, level of volume and how it sweet it is for your ears and pockets
