« on: Jan 23, 2006 at 09:51 AM »
hi all,

how do u mount your surrounds speakers?
what is the maximum height for wall mounting surround speakers?
can an ordinary hook (L shaped) can carry a 7 kg speakers or I should use a shelves for surrounds?
which is better?

I can not use a speaker stand because of space problem my best option is wall mount the speakers. thanks :)

Pre try this:

This surround speaker recommendation is for 5.1 setup only. It is because a 7.1 or even 8.1 HT setup will have different speaker placements.

Normally, using taller stands like a 38-inch pair for your surrounds is okay if you have ample space at the sides or rears of the listening position. The surrounds are place either at both sides of the listening position or slightly at the back.

If the position of the speakers are at the sides they would face each other. However, if the speakers are a little bit behind the listener, the speakers would face forward where your video screen located. But read the user manual also. Some speaker manufacturers would recommend that the speakers at the back should directly face the head of the listener for optimum performance. My recommendation, try to experiment.

If you do not have enough space at the sides or rears of you listening position like me, the surrounds setup may require speaker mounts that you attach to the wall. Sound Dimension at Park Square 1 sells these good types of speaker mounts that can accomodate biggers speakers, unlike the ones the you buy at SM.

Please see picture:

The recommended height is 6 inches above the head. For me, I read somewhere that for this kind of setup the speakers should be facing each other. And that's what I did.

Try to experiment on the position of the speakers until you get the sound that you like.

Hope this helps.

sir, check mo sa True Value and Ace Hardware... they carry the Perfect View brand and may several types of wall and ceiling mounting brackets for surround speakers... hindi ko lang sure kung meron for a 7kg load... ito ginamit ko before for my Mordaunt Short surrounds... ok na ok but kailangan mo lang magbutas ng wall mo...

Recommended height would be 2-3 ft. above ear level when listening. Also another technique would be to stand up and mount your speakers at ear level. Try visiting www.dolby.com for some help. There are many and different brackets available. Look around for what you may like.  ;)

sir salamat sa reply.

@bogsle

@jeckjeck

Nakita ko  na yung mga nsa ace hardware at parang ni-rerequire ata nilang butasin yung speaker cabinet to put the screws on. di ba pangit ppag binutasan yung speaker?

thanks

I had the same dilemma. Ayokong madamage ang box, that's why I opted for brackets that held the speaker at the bottom. It had an adjustable holder and it uses screws to secure the box. I ground the pointed screw and used washers to prevent damage to the box and distridute the pressure.  ;)

May model na clamps ang gamit -- patong mo lang then tighten the clamps sa side... this is the model for large bookshelf speakers... Yung MS ko kasi may ready na na holes sa likod for mounting talaga... Yep.. never drill holes sa cabinet ng speaker mo...

Yung mount is 1,400.00 pesoses yung isang pair.

Tawaran mo ha! Balita ko kasi dun sa isa kong kasama binibenta nila ng 1,700.00 pesoses. Sayang din yung 300.00, pang gasolina din yun.

I've tried it as high as 1.5 feet but since the speakers are immediately above my head ang pangit ang effect. As you can see in the PIC yung sofa is nakasandal sa pader. That recommended height of yours would be good kung medyo may space at the back of your listening position and you're not immediately nakasandal sa wall.

Pre, here is another pic.

Please click on the pic to enlarge and see the labels on it.

See the clamp there on one side of the speaker? There is one more on the other side (near the wall). The screw below is used to tighten the clamps to hold the speaker in place. Now, the bad thing is that the other end of the clamp (near the wall) has 2 puncture screws (see in the  picture the knob that is used for the puncture screws). Of course I do not want any puncture holes at the side of my speakers. So what I do is to put coins between the puncture screws and the speakers.

By the way, these LX2002 bookshelfs are the full sized bookshelf types. The wall mounts are so far able to hold their weight.
