Speaker Help
« on: Jan 14, 2008 at 02:25 PM »
Is it possible that the said speaker will short one amplifier yet work perfectly with another amplifier? I'm asking this because my power amp conked out without unexplainable reason. It started with the left channel. When powering the amp there was a thump emanating from the left channel and no sound came out of it when I started playing (only the other channel playing). I exchanged the right and the left speakers and when I turned on the amp there was a louder thump and there was no more power in the amp. The amp is supposed to be stable until one ohm and all these happened while powering the amp with volume level at zero and without anything playing. However, when I used my old intergrated, everything worked fine and the speakers did not show any sign that something was wrong with them nor did they adversely affect the integrated.

i think it would be better if you take ur amp to a certified technician.... my suspicion is that there was a short circuit in the amp... it's a good thing though that it didn't damage ur speakers...

Thanks for the reply. The amp is already with the technician. My concern is that once it is fixed, something might happen to it again if there is also something wrong with the speakers. Is there something I can do to check that there is nothing wrong with the speakers? Although, they are playing perfectly at the moment.

if something is wrong with your amp. then the speakers are not the culprit.

if there was something wrong with your speakers, it should have manifested itself with your integrated amp as well.

relax lang... :)

dash ryt! if ur speakers are working perfectly after the incident, then it was the amp. otherwise, you ahve two broken speakers as well... please keep us posted on the diagnosis of the amp...
