Accredited dealers of Panasonic Plasma and LCD
« on: Sep 16, 2009 at 01:52 PM »
Guys. Just want to share with you a NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC ad in inquirer dated Sept 16, page D3.

It list the following accredited dealer's outlets:

Abenson
Anson
Automatic
SM Appliances
Western
Fair & Square
etc

I was just wondering why our friendly stores here like LIS group, TW, Sights and Sounds are not included in the list.

SnS was never a official Panasonic Dealer. The Listening Group and TW were accredited dealers, unfortunately weren't happy with their treatment with regards to terms vs big appliance stores.

Will the warranty on plasma & LCD tvs sold by SnS and TW honored by Panasonic Phils?  May we request an answer from e-reply and nemesis.  Thanks.

Simple answer is no.  Sila na mismo nagsasabi nun.  Ask any of their sales personnel and they will tell you that.  Gray market ang Panasonic nila as well as most AV shops in the metro.

yeah i also saw the ad kanina. Hindi ba kumikita si pana phil sa mga gray unit? Or its just a pressure coming from the chain stores?

For me its never been an issue,  both vic and jeff have superb with regards to warranty claims! Isang text mo lang dyan, their response woulf be" cge sir papick up natin, palitan natin", do you think abenson or anson will do that? Hell no! My gf's 1week kolin aircon bought from abesons died down, its been more than a week na since tinawag namin, naka 4 na changes na sa dates kung kelan titingnan! till now iniindian pa din kame. Authorised seller yan ha.

This I agree! For the record, I'll think twice before buying from these so-called big shops. I know some people have fair to great experiences with them, for me they've always been "big and bureaucratic".

Personally, I "feel" for the small shops who genuinely want to get from these large electronic giants, but their dealership policies seem to favor the chain stores. Hence, the reason why some of the "little guys" go grey. I will endeavor to promote products from Panasonic, Samsung, Sony, etc, etc, if and when they're really worth promoting, but for now you won't see me recommending a forumer to your nearest (fill in the blank), Nor will I even barker and barter for people who ask my help, to buy only from authorized dealers.

But any buyer should have to keep in mind the risk that gray market sellers can fold and leave you out in the cold in terms of any kind of support.  Nobody is hoping for that of course, but given the times, who can tell.   At any rate, the friendly sellers here seem to be worth that kind of risk at the moment.

OT, Anchit, you should have bought Carrier aircon.   ;)  We have 4 in the house and their warranty support and home services are always prompt and pulido.

The friendly sellers here have established their reputation as specialty AV shops selling audio and home theater stuff you would not find in the appliance chain stores.  Onkyo, Denon, Mission, Paradigm, B&W, etc. are brand names you would (normally) not find in the appliance stores.

The LIS chain (yes, they're also a chain) and SnS have been importing big TVs unavailable in the appliance stores for many years now. I bought my 110v Toshiba 36in CRT from Listening Room way back when and it's still going strong.

Some of them may have had some misses too over the years as borne out by some old threads here but I would presume they've learned from these incidents--they've grown (and matured) over the years as much as the PinoyDVD community has grown also.  :)

Also, if you live in the provinces or outskirts where only official or licensed service centers exist, it would be in your best interest to get an officially warrantied unit since you would entail a lot of hassle and issues if you try to claim shop warranty, for you and the seller...especially if the shop are an hour or two flight's away.  ;)

Accredited dealers would normally warn that Authorized Service Centers MAY NOT accept to do repair works of gray units even for a fee.   Ano nga ba talaga ang policy on this?

If you buy a particular model that is not locally available, it's fairly sensible to imagine why a Service Center would refuse.

At the moment perhaps.  Ideally, the Service Center should have the repair manuals, the schematics, spare parts and some hands-on training on a particular model in order to service it properly.  However, it is also possible that some spare parts are common among different generations and models of TVs, or, some repair/service jobs do not require new knowledge or skills.  But at the minimum, the correct spares and drawings must be available or obtainable by the local Service Center.

If you used a credit card, you may check its policies in regards to appliance purchases. Call your credit card help desk and see if you can stop payment for the defective unit. Or complain about the bad service to the store you bought it from and return it.

A bit of OT:

I bought a LCD TV from one of the gray market AV stores popular here in PDVD. When I reach home, I found there was a dead pixel and I PMed the seller. I was told that they don't have anymore stocks of the model like mine. Reading from the threads in this forum, I know the model I got was indeed no longer available (phased out). I was never given any advices from the seller on what to do with my unit. I was hoping I will be told to bring back the unit and just replace it with another model or brand.

When I got the unit, I asked the sales personnel if they have a dead pixel finder to check for dead pixels and he said it's not in their shop during that time, but I was assured they would replace the unit if I found any dead pixels.

I live in the province thus I don't have time (and don't want the hassle of transporting a big TV) to bring the TV to the shop to show them the dead pixel.

Had anyone else experienced this kind of problem? How did your AV shop handled it?

it is always a risk to buy with grey import sellers ....

lalo kung taga province ka ..... it is not adviseable unless you are willing to pay for transportation fee everytime

just my opinion po :)

Pero kung mga 20K ang initial savings compared to prices at accredited stores, mag-iisip ka talaga kahit outside the Metro Manila area (and vicinities) ang residence mo di ba.

Medyo nagiging competitive naman na.  50 inch models are getting closer in price and so are the 32 inch models.  Yung 42 na lang yung medyo malayo ang pricing.

With that being said, if you live in the province, safer talaga to get from the big appliance stores.  Then again, depends rin on the province, since not all municipalities would have proper service centers in place.

As for the service center accepting gray market gear... I think they would.  Kita pa rin naman yun eh.  Authorized service centers are not owned by Panasonic Philippines or any other appliance company... (except maybe for Samsung).  So, if you bring in gray market gear, they would accept it, but of course, you have to pay.  Same thing with non-gray market gear.  If its under warranty, madali naman kausap ang mga AVshops natin.  SnS even gives you free hauling to the service center.

I was eyeing the 42c10, so I called around to canvass the price of this specific model.  Listening in Style is selling it for less than 39k++.  That sounds like a good deal to me but unfortunately they did not have the stocks when I'm ready to commit.  Was told to call back another week to see if they have stocks already.  I'm not in a hurry so waiting is fine by me.

Last weekend, I happen to be conveniently close to SM appliance store and just to see the price difference, I went in to inquire how much is the 42c10.  Salesperson blubbered something about "original price niyan ?? pero bibigyan kita ng discount so it's now 49k".  Oh well, I was in the mood to tell the guy how other shops are selling so I told him about the LIS price - "ang layo naman ng price nyo, 10k na mas mahal kesa LIS."  He immediately told me that LIS is a gray market and that Panasonic will not honor the warranty if it ceases to work.  Well he seems to be telling the truth because Panasonic just released the an ad in the Philstar today and LIS is not there and all the other audio-video specialty shops I'm familiar with.  I did interrogate the salesperson more so I asked him - okay so hindi nila irerepair for free but what if you do pay Panasonic for the service (if in such cases it does break down in less than a year), he has no straight answer so I walked away.

Imagine a 30% difference just to cover a risk which has probability of less than 1%.   This does not convince me to buy only in authorized dealer list of Panasonic Philippines just because of the warranty.  I also feel they are just bent on making a big profit with that markup. Which made me just go back to my  ??? mode and not buy anything.  I feel better just holding on to my hard earned cash.

Question to those in the know - on the extreme rarity that a Panasonic product bought from a dealer (not in the Philippine dealer list) breaks down, my assumption is the shop where you bought it will handle it.  Have you had any negative experience with these so called "gray market"?

i think if its within the warranty period, gray market sellers in my opinion reacts better and quicker than official channels. since most (i say most) of the time they just replace you with a new unit of the same model if ever the model is not available anymore, they may charge you a little more for a new model unit.

unlike official channels, they tend to really look at the specific problem and try to fix the unit first before they will replace it with a new unit if indeed they concluded that you have bought a "lemon" unit.

the nice thing about gray market sellers are they are first and foremost a marketing company, so they sell, they dont fix, so if there is a problem its faster to replace than to try to fix the malfunctioning unit. i guess they have their own distribution agreement from their source which make them flexible when it comes to replacement of units.

but of course after the warranty, that's when it will make a difference. since there are now claims that when you have your gray market units fix by local manufacturer's service centers, they say they will charge you more because you did not buy it from them. so for me, this could be the crucial factor in deciding if you should buy a gray market unit.

for me, if a panel will last 5 or more years guaranteed, gray market is the way for me.  :)
