It's not just the tubes, it was how it was used and the sum of the parts that were used(like the output iron) in the amp that created the magic.... i had a simple pp- el84 amp that had fabulous sound...circa 70's
if you can find an old but working "Constellation" radio, you will find the philips equivalent of that 6bm8, these radios really sound good....SET amps are to be found in many of those radios and even b&w tv sets, we owned an Admiral 21 inch tv's in the 60's, it used a 6aq5 output in a SEP format, and i remeber that the sound was so fantastic....
