People who bought their Blu Ray Players from the US
« on: Jun 08, 2011 at 10:13 AM »
Hi,

Just a question for owners who bought their blu ray players from Amazon or the US. I am thinking of buying a blu ray player from the US, but it won't be able to play my old DVDs (Region 3), any suggestions kung anong ginagamit nyo na DVD player with upscaling? Thanks!

check if that player you intend to buy has unlock code to make DVD playback region-free.  mine which i bought in Amazon US early this year (LG BD570) still has no hack code available.  i don't mind though cause i didn't buy it for DVD playback and since i got taste of HD movies, it's always NMT or bluray for me.  all my DVDs are just there eating dust.

good luck!

I have a Sony BDP-N460 region !. it plays region 3 dvd's but it will not play imported region 3 dvd's though or it depends on the distributor of that disc if i'm not mistaken....you can correct me if i'm wrong.

It wont really play region 3 DVDs BDP players from the U.S., if you still wanna sometimes browse your DVDs just get a Pioneer DVD player but I'm not sure if it upscales picture quality or so if it has HDMI connection capability w/c I think automatically upscales Dvds to higher picture quality ;)

Yes, Pioneer or any other DVD players with HDMI output can upscale the video but the quality of this upscaling varies from one brand to another; it depends on the video source as well. In the case of DVDs, newly-produced DVD titles tend to benefit  more from upscaling than the older DVD titles.

There are purportedly Region 3 DVDs that can play on US-made blu-ray players (in my case, I own a Sony BDP-S550), but upon closer inspection, these "Region 3" titles bought locally (esp those produced by Magnavision, C-Interactive) turn out as region-free pala.
