I just want to put forth this information hoping it will help the community.

We all know that content manufacturers would like nothing better than we keep buying the same releases over and over and over (How many copies of Star Wars can one own?).

We also know that as legitimate owners of content, it is also our right to legitimately back them up.

The next salvo the content manufacturers in this tug of war is coming.

It's called CINAVIA.

Cinavia is a form of protection wherein playback devices are embedded with this technology to prevent unauthorized content from being displayed.

What it is is a audio watermark that's embedded into the audio/video tracks and when a Cinavia enabled device tries to play it back it will kick in.

Users of PS3 already have begun to experience this when playing back ripped m2ts files from cinavia protected content.

I'm here to inform you that starting February 2012, SOC (System on a Chip) manufacturers intending to sell devices designed to play media files will be MANDATED to include Cinavia protection embedded on their devices. This includes Sigma, Realtek, Broadcomm, Marvell, Intel etc etc.

Hence. If you intend to continue enjoying playing back media files even those with Cinavia watermarks, make sure you get a media player that was manufactured PRIOR TO FEB 2012 or else you risk a media player that's Cinavia enabled.

I've been aware of this impending issue for some time now and unfortunately this is just NO way to remove watermarks in audio/video tracks embedded with Cinavia protection, it can be movies, tvshows from digital cable systems etc etc.

If you are unsure, make sure you do your research first before you put down money for a media player.

Remember, this applies to any model of media player introduced after Feb 2012.

C300 affected?

Judging history, these protection schemes will get by passed anyway. There is always a way.  ;D

I hope you guys are right...

At the moment there's NO way to remove the watermarks in a lot of films already released (example SALT).

Watermarking has been effecting in other mediums for establishing true ownership of content (photos, videos, music). Heck I use them myself on digital images I make personally and even at work to protect it from piracy.

FYI.. C300 is not affected. I think they planned this as a loophole to allow them to not have to embed Cinavia protection in the player.

sino/alin po ba ang regulating body na nag-e-enforce nito sa media player manufacturers? possible kaya na magkaroon pa rin ng media players na non-conformant?

Lots...

Bluray alliance
HDMI consortium
Dolby
DTS

Basically all the above control the various codecs, interfaces and security.

Chip manufacturers (Sigma, Realtek, Intel, Marvell, etc etc) will not be able to release their products without the proper licensing from the above.

In this case it's the bluray alliance who made the rule.

i see, sort of indirect enforcement ang magyayari. like say for example DTS being part of BDA, can refuse license to chipmakers not implementing CINAVIA

^ as i understand it, no. assuming your blu-ray player supports cinavia, it wouldn't matter as long as your disc is legit

based on some further reading, turns out CINAVIA will only be required on players that need BDA license. this includes Blu-Ray disc players, hybrid media players (ones with Blu-Ray disc support), and also media players with Full BD navigation (for BD ISO)

i'm guessing it's possible that new media players may still be manufactured without CINAVIA implementation, as long as it doesn't feature BD ISO/Full BD Navigation. after all, a large majority of media player owners don't really keep full ISO copies

And if the NMT makers do not find a way, they're history.

There will always be a backdoor firmware or else it's suicide for them.

My take, if it's on the chip, fooling it will be very challenging for any manufacturer.

I Love keeping bdmv and Iso, for the full bd navigation that go with it.
