Receiver question

Hello,

I have a rotel 1055 receiver can I use it as a pre amp? Wont it damage the amplifier section? Im planning to use the front output of the pre amp and the rest will power the surrounds.

If the receiver has pre-outs, the designer had it in mind that you can use it as a preamp.
