PIXEL PLUS is a video chip inside a Philips TV which is their proprietary name for the Faroudja DCDi line-doubler/deinterlacer. You'll indeed be impressed with the picture resolution, especially during its initial introduction in or around 2002 with the last in line CRT tube TVs. However, very few Filipinos could afford it at that time because Philips was selling the 32-inch model at around P110,000. Now the 32-inch LCD model is being sold at Abenson's for something like P99,000+. For me the only added value for a Philips TV is the embedding of the DCDi chip. if not for its presence, Philips is mediocre and has no claim of standing out in the audio-video market. This Faroudja-Pixel Plus chip is the very reason Philips has the temerity to charge so much for its mediocre, Malaysian-made TVs. But don't be fooled, you don't have to be extorted of your P100K for a flimsy, paltry 32-incher because there is a "resort" in getting the same benefits from a DCDi - not on a TV, but through your DVD player. Denon DVD players, mainly models 1930, 2910, 2200, etc. makes DCDi de rigoire (or a requirement) on its more popularly-priced players. If your current TV has an HDMI connection, then you're getting the same Pixel Plus performance by coupling it with a Denon unit. Philips tries to present itself as a competent, big-name brand - but the truth is its merely a Jack of all trades - literally excelling in none.
