HT RECEIVER VS. SEPARATE PROCESSOR
« on: May 21, 2007 at 05:16 PM »
 :-\ :-\ :-\ Some video fanatics prefered one box receiver to avoid cable worries, but for videophile separates are their best choice.   :D :D :D

  :o :o :o In your own opinion. What's set-up do you choose, say you got enough dough to shell out for the system you like?  ??? ??? ???

ADDENDUM:

* MULTI-CHANNEL :

 ;D ;D Yamaha made only control amps as far I knew (but not sure way back years). Only few names make dedicated A/V processors due it's price, that costs more than entry level receiver or three times. But the quality and flexiblity benefits are more then you imagine like you can upgrade without changing your power amps or you can use any amps you have in your hands. ::) ::)

Pre-owned a/v pre/pro bro meron, hunt ka nga lang.

Got a denon AVD-2000 and a yamy DSP-E492 which are both multi channel pre/pro. This two I switch around with my multi-channel power amp. Beats the upgrade itch anytime ;D ;D ;D

BTW this are just Dolby Digital pre/pros that have a 5.1 analog input. If you want DTS sounds sa DVD player mo lang kunin ;)

If I had the resources, of course I would go for separates.

But since separates are too expensive here (and we dont have the low ebay prices in the U.S.), I had no choice but to go for a high level Receiver + power amp. Power amps handles the fronts, receiver handles the surrounds. Does a good job IMO.

I have, in fact borrowed a friend's Rotel processor for comparison & I do not find its performance far from my Yamaha 2500 + Rotel combo**.  I am not sure when it comes to Anthem & the higher end processors like Lexicon though.  :D

**But the Rotel pre/pro excels in music though, w/c doesnt matter to me now that I have a separate tube audio setup.

In short, separate audio setup is still the best for an audio & videophile on a budget like me. Still beats "separates" from my experience & tube preference. ;D

But if you are a SS user for audio, separates is the way to go!

actually I believe the reason why most of the mass market manufacturers dont offer seperate digital preamp/processors in their lineup anymore is because there is very little money to be made due to very low market demand.  for every 1 consumer who is into seperates there will be at least a hundred other consumers more interested in HTIB's and all in one A/V receiver boxes.  Industry giants such as Pioneer or Sony will not have any problems whatsoever manufacturing digital preamp/processors due to manufactuing costs. Its just that their marketing strategies target the mass market which is where the money is  :)

 :D  :D   At the used market I frequented every weekend, I've seen sansui,kenwood,technics,yamaha and other brands 2 channel separate unit as they were called " Control Amp "  which same funtion as preamp.It means, they actually made separate systems those years before integrated became popular. And maybe production cost and retail price is more than single chassis int. system. Than came the mini and midi systems which flooded the showrooms in 90's Separates became old fashion to most consumers, but the early models were in separates.(I still have the pioneer "Contempo model" I purchased way backed 1992). ;D ;D
