good question nga.  i'd have the same dilemma.  they're on the same price range.

8 inches versus newer/clearer model

Whats the viewing distance on the panasonic 50 inch?

rule of thumb is 2-3 times the size of the screen kaya its 8-12 feet.

depende sa viewing space nga, kaso we are always tempted to buy the best tech available. personally, since pv70 is regarded as one of the better plasmas out there, i'd get the 50, size does matter.  ;D

Dropped by TW Trinoma yesterday with my family and had the chance to see the 50PV70 vs. 50PY70 side by side. On playback was "Disturbia" BD.

My immediate impressions on a 6ft viewing distance:
1. Color - 50PY70 stands out. You don't have to look longer. It's really obvious.
2. Resolution - Both have just the same look. You'd have to look closer and a little longer to see the better difference of the PY70.

 ;)

The PY700 also has a very effective anti-glare screen, but the big question is: "Is it worth the added P50 k?"

Wow additional 50k lang. All the while I thought it was plus 80k? I think 50py70 would be worth it if one is headed or mostly bluray viewing. But if its mostly sd and mkvs, 50pv70would be enough.

Yup, close to 80k. The 50PV70 SRP is 90K v 165k for the 50PY700 ;D

To minimize SARS, I suggest that you decide on the basis of PQ and not simply size (although I'm a firm believer in the adage "GO BIG EARLY").  If you can't afford your choice just yet, I suggest waiting a couple more months for the prices to go down...  Waiting for the prices of your chosen TV to go down is a lot easier than trying to unload a set that you're not happy with at a steep discount.

FYI:  I got myself a 42PV80 and couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I'll certainly go for the 50PV70!  ;)

IMO, the extra dough 80k for the small improved differences is not justifiable....unless of course $ isn't a problem.

Really depends on the viewing distance.   You will only maximize the better PQ of the newer model if you sit at the appropriate distance.

I guess in real world situations....better to get the 50 incher....

the chart below is a very good guide

Hey Hello Teta, how's the PV80? Has the replacement of this unit to your PV70 solved the 'blinking' black-out effect? Hope you're happier now because of smooth performance.
