Syabas Popbox
« on: Jul 16, 2010 at 11:26 AM »
Forgive me if there's already a thread like this

...but looks like the Popbox has started shipping already!

$129. Personally i'm sick of my unintuitive Xtreamer, bugs and all, and am looking forward to this. Hopefully i trickles down to our shores and we can get first hand impressions from our fellow members.  ;D I hear the UI is vastly improved

and the remote's doesn't look bad either..

any idea if the software will be in the PCH200 as well ?

this should look just right with a 2 Tb WD Elements beside it, boxy black boxes.

vx2, pls. correct the thread title. Should be Syabas Popbox.

I am also very interested in this unit. Let us know if we could buy this locally. This would fit nicely in the deck of a home theater environment.

Unfortunately that product is for the U.S. market only.

It's Advertising driven so you will get advertisements.

And the streaming services will not work outside the U.S. without significant hacking.
Don't be fooled by the image, it's PLASTIC so honestly it's just as plain jane as any plastic box.

The remote also doesn't have the usual 1-9 keys, so it's a bitch to use when you have to enter settings or even navigate a movie (the number keys on the NMT take you to various parts of the movie, 1 being 10% and 9 being 90%).

The UI (sans the advertising) is coming to the A-200. I've tested it already and it's going to be great.

Another less known Syabas product is the Saiyashi MP-2000;

Saiyashi MP-2000

It's like an A200 but can't accept 3.5" drives and the firmware is locked to Chinese. It also has an eSATA port.

Thanks. So we have a good idea of the coming PCH UI :) I really think I made the right choice with the PCH.

I guess my other media player would be a Boxee Box or what Apple has in store end of the year.
Or maybe just wait for Google TV on my underutilized PS3.  ???

Isn't the boxee box also targeted at the US market with lots of US-IP locked apps?

looks like this wont be my next media player :(
