You're right, I already looked at one and held it in my hands last week at Astrovision Festival, but when I came back for it today, there were no longer any stocks available. I wonder when will the new stocks arrive and will they still be the same (R1) as the first batch?

At least you held it in your hands. I've only seen it online while reading reviews, all the while increasing my frustration  ??? Nakakainis! I was even offered a vcd copy to tide me over. Ano kayo hilo??

Shift the audio track from the default Dolby Digital 5.1EX to Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround.

I think.

Yup! Ganyan din nangyari sa kin sa Tower Records Glorietta the first time, when i came back in the morning wala na din!
So, nung nakakita ako sa Astrovision Galleria, hindi ko na pinakawalan, binili ko na agad!  :-)

There were still 3 DVDs at Tower Records Glorietta, but unfortunately I didn't have enough moolah to be able to take it home, much to my chagrin. And when I returned the next day, it was all gone.

Astrovision and the rest of the local shops says their new stocks of LOTR DVDs will arrive in two weeks' time.

I suggest that you guys source out the contact numbers of your favorite video shop and just call 'em up to be updated. Or get the number of the distributors themselves, since they -- more than likely -- will be able to give a clearer idea as to when their re-orders will arrive, rather than the retailers.

It will save you the effort and frustration and you can always ask to secure a copy should it becomes available.

Just checked the DVD Marketplace. Two sellers there have put LOTR: FOTR on the block. One of them has 3 copies. The threads aren't locked yet, so maybe you can still get ahold of the discs.

Stocks of the LOTR DVD were depleted from retail outlets as early as two weeks ago. It's already the 19th of August and new stocks still have not arrived in retail outlets yet. I think this failure by the local legit distributors to meet the demand of consumers for the LOTR DVD is not helping in the drive against piracy one bit. Think of it this way: LOTR is probably the most popular DVD title ever released to date. People who would not normally buy original DVD copies of movies are likely to make an exception with this one. This is supposed to give the ailing local video retail industry a rare opportunity to boost sales. But what do they do? They treat the rare occurrence like crap and flush the opportunity down the toilet. A couple of days after the DVD is released, anybody who is not willing to sell their soul for it could not get a legit copy of the LOTR DVD. Until today, stocks of this DVD have not been replenished in retail outles yet. Now, do you think people in this day and age are willing to wait weeks for stocks to arrive in stores just to get the original copy of a movie? I think the regular customer’s initial reaction after they find out the LOTR DVD is out of stock in Astro or Video City would be to head down to the nearest Abu shop where ironically the dual layer LOTR DVD (true copy of the original, not a screener) has been available since June and are always on stock.

Ganyan talaga ang buhay.  Kung mabagal ka eh dadaanan ka ng pagkakataon.  The issue with the wrong raid by VRB at Astro Megamall should have been a signal to act quickly.

If you read the earlier posts on this thread, the 5-disc Gift Set was initially priced by Amazon at $50.  Then a few days after eh ginawa nilang $60.

Same with the 2-disc set.  Baka hindi sinadya ng tadhana na mabili ng mga naghahanap.  Baka ang plano sa inyo it either to wait for the new stocks or get from PinoyDVD sellers.

hey guys!

just got another copy of LOTR widescreen R1 with the sticker for the NZ trip promo.  I noticed that this one was made in taiwan...  the other one that I have from Astro was made in Korea...   do anyone of you care about where the disc was made?  I'm intending to give the other one and would like to know which between the two is the best copy.  Comments please.  Don't want to open the other one yet so I'd like to know who among you got the one with NZ sticker.

thanks!

Well it says somewhere at the back that it's made in Taiwan. Btw, are the two versions (Taiwan and Korea) identical in all other details?  I only have one copy which is made in Taiwan. ;D

From VideoBusiness: (not sure if this was posted already)

AUG. 16 | New Line Home Entertainment's The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring looks to be doing an unprecedented percentage of its sales on DVD.

The studio confirmed that its shipment to retailers was 65% DVD and 35% VHS but declined to provide sales figures or discuss competitors' sales estimates.

According to estimates by competitors, the title sold 5.2 million to 6.5 million copies in its first week, with VHS representing just 1 million to 1.5 million, or as little as 20% to 25% of those.

Competitors believe Warner Home Video's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone sold about 55% of its copies on DVD in its early weeks.

And that's just the 2 disc DVD. :o

Why on earth not? But even in a worst case scenario, you have our ever reliable suppliers like Parc, Charbit, and my own favorite Procopio.

Hey, what are the features of your LOTR? Is it Region 1? At the sound options menu you can change from 5.1 ex to 2.0 surround, both in english. Unless you have a different version and there really is no switch to english 2.0 surround, you can get a good enough Altec Lansing 2.1 Active speaker system (a.k.a. computer speaker. It's pretty cheap and easy to get an adapter if the speaker won't accept RCA inputs/outputs) for under P2000 -- even with 5.1 ex setting you can just crank up the volume and hang on. But shop around, there may be better and cheaper speakers out there aside from the PC, maybe you have some stereo speakers at home with aux inputs. I use an A4 2.1 PC speaker set up. It's still good. hope this helps.

Yeah, if you don't have 5 speakers and a subwoofer, forget it. It's still good but you lose a lot of other sounds. Match it with your two speaker set-up. Much louder. More sounds. Anyway, it's surround.

i'm just scared that we're gonna get some crappy R3 version. i want the packaging gorgeous and easy to look at and actually look precioouuusss... and not l;ook like some cheap taiwan imitation. i've learned my lesson from the moulin rouge R3 (lord ang panget ng packaging) and i don't want that to happen to my beloved LOTR. :-*

I've heard a lot of good things about Parc and Charbit. And my own personal experience with Procopio has been wonderful - I'm one satisfied customer. The DVDs I get from him are R1 - and they're far from crappy. :) The packaging is intact. When you deal with him, you specify what you want and he delivers.

I got it at PC express for under 2000. it's a multi-purpose thing with i think 800 watts of PMPO or sumthin. not just for the computer, for any unit that can output to a speaker.  but you should shop around and compare quality. Like I said, I saw an ALtec Lansing for around that price but I don't know about the sound and quality. should be good, though.

::) In spite of most of us being ecstatic about the arrival of our FOTR 2-disc set and our anticipation of the 4/5-disc special edition coming this November, some people don't have the same opinions that we do. Read on this article :

Planning to buy the two disc LOTR: FOTR, because I can't wait for the collector's set - question:

May inserts (or booklet) ba ang 2 disk set na ito (r1)?

Yeah. But the booklet is just full of coupons and ads.
