Has anybody here tested the actual multi-channel power output of the Marantz 5300?

Does it really deliver continuous 85W power to all 6 channels at the same time?

I'm asking since a lot of AVRs that report high wattage ratings (100+w/channel) actually drop to around 25w-35w only per channel in multi-channel mode.

I think the maximum power for all the channels is 80 not 85.

The multi-channel stereo of the Marantz 4300 is applied to 5 channel only not 6 channel (the surround back is not active in 5ch stereo mode). I don't have any measurement equipment to measure the actual power dissipated in 5ch-stereo mode.

They have to.  Afterall, there's only so much power consumption.  Whether 2 channel or 6 channels, the power supply is fixed.  So if a receiver says 100 watts rms per chanell in stereo, that's 200 watts rms total.  Check the max power consumption at the back.  If it says about 280 or 350 watts max, that's accurate.  But don't expect the receiver to give 100 watts rms per channel on multi-channel mode.  Where will it get another 300 or 400 watts?

Just for comparison, the Rotel multi-ch amplifier rmb-1066 i think gives out only 65 watts rms per channel.  It has 6 channels eating a maximum power consumption of about 700 watts.  That's very generous power reserve that takes care of transient peaks and the bridgeable power of 150 watts rms per channel into 3 channels.  Total of 450 watts output.   Rule to follow: an amp or receiver cannot give out a total rms power more than or equal to the maximum power it consumes.

Thanks for the info, guys!  From what you know about the 5300 and max power consumption (don't have access to this info kasi), can this AVR deliver 80/85 watts continuous power in 5 or 6 channel modes?

honestly I don't think the marantz is capable of doing 80 watts continuous on all 6 channels. I'll try to get the link that has a comparison of most receivers' actula power outputs on all channels driven.

bro,

i think it depletes a little (around 5wpc to 10wpc only)...but this is already acceptable unlike to yammies and denons where power goes down to 45wpc to 55wpc whereas it is "adverstised" to be 100wpc...peak pala...not continuous...this is the advantage of the NAD receivers...

just my 2-cents...iba pa rin ang 2-channel audio...walang daya sa power...minsan, underrated pa nga eh...thanks!

Well fellows,

Napag-uusapan na din lang ang Declared Power versus Measured Power, check the link below.

Measurement was conducted by Sound & Vision.

I am somewhat proud of my VR - 6070. Declared Power is 100W x 6. Measured is 92W x 6. At least di ganon kalaki ang degradation. Unlike the "others".

I am sure kung meron tinamaan jan, they will doubt Sound & Vision's Credibility.

wow.. some models really sucked big time on that list.  homecinemachoice does the same thing when they review receivers, they expose what the real power ratings should be at acceptable THD.  looking at the list, it would seem that its not always a brand thing, but more like certain models not making the cut.

Hi Nels76,
this is a good comparison. I took upon myself to have this posted also in comparison of receivers thread where this is more appropriate than this marantz thread. I am using RX-V630.

Hi akyatbundok,
you are right. It is quite a revelation. some expensive gear and yet over rated, and some cheaper gear with hefty muscle. The home cinemachoice sometimes just measure stereo - the rxv-630 can go as high as 92wpc (I knew this is in stereo only).

Mas preferred ko sana ang Marantz 4300 receivers kaysa Yamaha RXV-440 pero 50hz yung mga Marantz dito (diyan sa atin eh 60hz ang standard).

Meron bang nabibiling converter para dun?
