so far, I have tried the extended version on four players and it has failed to work properly on one of the platforms. I tried playing it on two Compaq laptops with DVD-ROM model  toshiba dvd-rom sr-r2102. it's also an 8x CD writer . The first laptop failed to play it properly with error message from windows xp "cannot play on current windows setting. Tune down colors and resolution." But it turns out that a particular driver was not properly installed on that laptop. I tried playing it on an identical model laptop and dvd-rom, but with properly installed set of drivers, it played really well and the resolution on the LCD screen was breathtaking, with screen settings at 1280x1024. 64 million colors, was a breeze.

Then when I got home, I plugged it in a Sony VX-series DVD component. Played awesomely well. Lastly, I plugged it in a Sony Playstation 2 SCPH-30001, 2001 US version. It played quite well too.  ;D

To those who have bought the Gift Set from Amazon.ca... is there any difference in packaging from the one being sold in the US (French text on the outer box, etc)? Thanks...

All trailers and "basic" extras can be found in the 2-disc set and ONLY in the 2-disc set.

The 2 disc and the extended cut have completely different features.

That is why up to now I'm still keeping the theaterical version(2disc) to avail all the features on both versions.

Just remember the 2 disc is what peter  Jackson says is the directors cut and not the 4 disc extended version. :D

Just got my 4-disc set from Amazon but haven't opened it yet. There's a note on the box that says there's a free movie ticket to TTT. I wonder if the ticket can be used in the Phil???

Did you get the US Version? I think I got the Canadian version because it doesn't have any indication that I could watch TTT for free. Anyway, I'm not sure you could use that here either.

There's an easter egg where you can access the two towers trailer - just go to the second disc, go to the fanclub credits (48) then when you get there go to the number (48) again and click down - you should see an icon of the two towers. :)

No, it's valid only in the United States, and only from December 18th - December 31st.

Hey, those with the free ticket, check it out! There's a pink padlock printed on it. If you blow on it, it disappears temporarily. Nice way to prevent pirated tickets!

Better yet, check the easter egg in disc 1. It's the MTV spoof of the council of Elrond. Enjoy! :)

from what I've read sa reviews, there are slight variations in the 4-disc set, in that some scenes have been re-edited... but not really taken out...

so I think what you see on the 2-disc set is still in the 4-disc set, but some are probably not exact identical scenes.

You can check out IGN DVD Review of the Extended Cut here:

They basically tackled all the changes and additions to the movie... :)

Well, it had to happen.  I've read the posts with the warnings about the dual-disc amaray cases, pero di ko pinansin.  Last Sunday, I took out my LOTR 2-disc set to watch the theatrical version after watching the extended version.  Noong tinanggal ko 'yung Disc 1 na naka-attach sa additional disc holder, bigla na lang may natanggal na maliit na part.  Tapos, nakita ko na maraming cracks - ang isa pa nito ay 1-1/2 cm. long!

Nakakapanglata talaga!  Sayang na sayang ako.  Shelling out P1,500 for it is no joke.  Kaya, kayong may LOTR 2-disc set na nakalagay pa rin sa original dual-disc slim amaray cases, lipat niyo na 'yung isang disc sa isang spare single-disc case.  Huwag niyo nang paubutin sa sinapit ko!

i dont think the extended 20 minute end credit is included in the 30 minutes of additional scenes

am i correct? so all in all we are getting a total running time which is 50 minutes longer?

I've been trying to justify you.
In the end I will just defy you.

There are two lord of the rings easter eggs. The first one on disc one happens after the last chapter which is The Council of Elrond. If you scroll down (i think), you should see an icon of the ring and if you highlight this, you get to see the MTV-spoof of the council of elrond.

The second easter egg is on disc two, after the fanclub credits. Go to the chapter selection for the fanclub credits, scroll down again, and you should see at the bottom right hand of your screen an icon of the Two Towers. Highlight this and you'll get to see an amazing preview of what is to come this December when The Two Towers opens worldwide. This is amazing stuff!!! Hope this helps and enjoy! :)

dexterc,

maybe I should apply the same philosophy? hehe, people just don't take care of other people's things...

mongaddi,

running time is approx 228mins... that includes 20mins of fan club roll...  so that leaves out around 208mins for the extended cut...with credits...

as for the theatrical cut... running time is 178mins... so yes there is actually 30 minutes of extra footage, which includes the credit roll, but not including the fan club roll.

Discrepancy in LOTR
« Reply #328 on: Nov 28, 2002 at 10:50 AM »
Have you tried to compare the special features of the Lord of the Rings 2-Disk with the Extended Edition?

I noticed in the 2-disc version that included in it is an MTV of Enya whereas, it is not available in the Extended Version.
 :P
i know that it might sound to trivial, but I couldn't help but be interested since I love Enya's music.

the features of LOTR FOTR 2-disk and LOTR FOTR EE are really different.
