hi guys. am seriously thinking of buying the 4-disc dvd (already have the 2 disc). was wondering if it's an ok purchase compared naman to the steep price of the gift set. also to those who have the 4-disc, they add the 30 minutes extra footage right? complete with music and such? thanks guys!!

sell your two disc set and get the extended version. if your a fan of the film, you ain't goin to regret it. 30 more minutes that makes the second movie make more sense. unlike other movies (like say Starwars), the cut scenes were important or somewhat relevant events that shouldn't have been cut in the first place.

with regards to the bookends. i dont think its wise to spend $58 on a one movie dvd set.

Heads up, people! I finally saw the 4-disc edition of The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring at Astrovision (SM Centerpoint branch), and it's being sold at just:

P 2000!

You read that right.

I guess good deals come to those who wait!  :-\

Edited to add: Whoops, kanina pa palang umaga na "heads up" sa R3 section ito. Didn't check there, since it's an R1 disc.

Definitely the best release of Astro as of to date. I would even dare say the best DVD pack ever. ;D The deleted scenes were just amazing, I even wonder why they took them out in the first place.

It's because of New Line's request that the movie shld be less than  3 hours (which is also needed for the pacing of the movie)

It's not in the DVD anymore but from what I recall, it's in the scene where Bilbo and Gandalf are talking, sitting on the mountain slopes. There's a pan of the landscape from their POV - and you can see this tiny bit of smoke chugging, chugging along what seems to be a road until it disappears out of sight.

I don't think so, otherwise a lot of local buyers would have already complained by now.  In case you don't know, the 4-disc LOTR released by Astrovision is Region 1 encoded.  I got my set from Charbit and I have not encountered any problems with it.

The Lord of the Rings, book-wise, is actually 6 books compiled into three parts: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and Return of the King. Each part contains about 2 books.

Before The Lord of the Rings was The Hobbit. While The Hobbit was written for children, The Lord of the Rings was an epic meant to be read by adults.

J.R.R. Tolkien created a whole world in Middle-Earth. The Silmarillion, finished and published by Tolkien's son (I think), has more info on it. Tolkien also wrote Middle-Earth's history, and invented different languages for its various peoples. The History of Middle-Earth books (there are around...4? 6?) are being sold in National and Powerbooks now.

The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy is based on the The Lord of the Rings books, although the beginning of FOTR summarizes the topics found in The Silmarillion, as well as the plot of The Hobbit.

There're also animated versions of both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Hope I helped!  ;D
