Just bought Marantz SR4400 last Monday and here's my review:
Im eyeing for Yamaha440 previously until I came across Marantz4400. In my opinion, Marantz sounds a lot better in multi-ch/2ch stereo; it's clean, warm and smooth. Marantz SR4400 and Yamaha RX-V440 are neck to neck in terms of DTS/DTS-ES/DD/DD-EX audio quality(tested with my friend who has yammy 440). The Yamaha is being most aggressive, very bright and forward sounding which is great for movies but way too bright and tiring for music which lacking the musical smoothness of Marantz.
I think, Marantz SR4400 has the same features with SR4300 but I like it's silver faceplate. It's looks and it's sonics blends well with my current speaker mission m7c1(center), mission m70(front), and sony satellite speakers(rears). Great for SACD and DVD-Audio too (tested with Norah Jones and Metallica). I'm recommending 100% for music and 80% for movies. If one watches DVD exclusively, get the Yamaha 440 which is the other way around.
Strengths:
Great warmth, depth, clarity, tightness and immersive sound esp for music. Solid Construction and great audio qualities for an entry level reciever. And it's 6.1 input/output for future upgrades.
Weakness:
The remote's design but none for its price per audio qualities.
