Unlikely. This one had the VRB sticker on it. And the menus were down pat right TTT.

I think Parc is already accepting pre-orders for LOTR-TTT Extended Edition. Just text or pm him for the price.

Do they even do that? That would get them in trouble. Anyway, I took out the cover last night and surprise: the VRB hologram sticker came off! :o Upon closer examination,I found out that it was glued to the cover. It had these dried up crystalline traces that were definitely glue or paste or some other adhesive. Another discrepancy besides the disc and cover print and the picture quality was the list of SPECIAL FEATURES at the back. It said the movie has Malay, Chinese, Thai subtitles. What it failed to mention was that there is a Spanish one too. I played the movie with the subtitles on and they weren't off. I'll be posting screencaps when I have the chance.

Now if this is indeed a pirated copy, why is ACA allowing this practice? I'm sure Mr. Revilla would like to hear about this.

VRB stickers, from what I understand, you can get them in bulk, if you have a rental shop. So you put the sticker in as many copies as you want, legit copies.......or not. :o You've already paid for that when you applied for license in VRB or something like that. It's part of their package. How it gets in the hands of the pirates in Greenhills, ewan ko na lang. :)

Bad_burn from what you've described, that doesn't look like the legit copy, sa cover pa lang. ACA is a franchise, right? I'm not sure about that, but maybe the owner of that particular ACA branch rents out those copies, without the knowledge of ACA mismo. I don't know, just speculating. :) Did the people in that branch tell you it was the real thing? If they did, you could probably report them to ACA head office or whoever sells the franchise.

I still haven't bought a copy: ubos agad! ;D But I will be getting one next week siguro when a new shipment arrives.

Anyhow, I rented the TT DVD from ACA and it was different from the retail ones. The cover and disc print was nowhere near the retail one (it had Legolas, Frodo, Aragorn and the Army of the Last Alliance from film one. Strange...) and it was only one disc! ??? Weird. I rented it because I was hoping to see the 10 minute ROTK preview, I didn't mind so much sa movie.

And another thing: the picture quality was not really up to par, if you get my drift. I had a friend who showed me a Jack Sparrow copy and it's picture quality was much better and sharper than the one I rented from ACA. Ba't ganun?

Well if you have time to check out GB3 Music One, I still saw a million copies there. Also in Tower Records Megamall (Former Music One).

from www.thedigitalbits.com:

September 02, 2003 - Thanks to numerous reports from our readers, it seems there is a major problem with this run of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. What we've learned is this:

* If your LotR:TTT disc is going to go bad, it will always take place at the same spot: in chapter 51, where Gandalf says "The battle for Helm's Deep is over, the battle for Middle-earth has begun." The disc will stop skipping around chapter 52, although sometimes it jumps back about an hour in the disc.

* The most common players prone to this problem are Sony players and the PlayStation 2, but Sony isn't the only victim. People are reporting the problem on players from Toshiba, Panasonic and Apex.

Most folks have been able to exchange their discs, although some had to go back as many as three times before finding a working disc. With enough trial and error they find a working one. My suggestion is if you take back the disc to get a new one, if the store has working DVD players on the floor, open it up right there and try it out.

I've spoken to New Line, they are looking into it. We'll get back to you as soon as we hear from them.

I'm beginning to suspect that too. I didn't bother asking if it was the real thing or not because obviously it wasn't.

Will be reporting this to the proper authorities but I'm not sure what good will come out of it. I bet there're other branches that practice this too. If anybody can provide me with the contact number/email add to the
ACA Head Office or the VRB, it would be much appreciated.

Okay, here are the shots I promised. These have not been edited or doctored. The first batch is the one I took from the copy I rented from ACA. The second batch is from the Jack Sparrow copy from a friend who got it from China months ago. Now if you have an eye for detail ::), you'll notice that there are differences.

They must be reported. Those are pirated DVDs they're renting out.

Your screencaps look okay. I don't know if it's just me but they seem to have the same quality as those pdvds which copy off of the original. Medyo downgraded ang kulay, kahit na sakto lang ang proportion.

Me too skips/freeze in chapter 26, had it changed also and so far no problem whatsoever.  Problema lang disk 1 lang ang pinalitan nila hindi yung buong package. Kawawa naman yung bibili nun kung ipagbibili pa rin nila yun. Intact pa kasi yung Security Seal, plastic lang yung sinira.

just read the discussions they are having at dvdfile.com on the problems they are having with this title. it seems that most of the people there who are having problems are using predominantly Sony dvd players.

For me, i've sworn off using any sort of SONY dvd player whether drive or player ever since i bought my 1st dvd rom drive which had problems playing dual layer dvds.

National Geographic Beyond the Movie: Return of the King
« Reply #567 on: Sep 12, 2003 at 01:06 AM »

From dvdanswers:

New Line Home Entertainment have released details on National Geographic Beyond the Movie: Return of the King which features exclusive film footage and interviews for the final part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The documentary delves beyond the film to provide a historical context for Aragorn's struggles. It will be available to own from the 16th December this year and should set you back somewhere in the region of $24.98. As well as the main documentary the disc will include some bonus footage and interviews, a fact file, timeline and an interactive map.
