I'm sorry but I really, really have to say this -- i've developed a big crush for jack bauer. mahal ko na talaga sya. I haven't seen a TV character that's as heroic as he is in a long time.  :)

What drugs are these ABS CBN execs on?
Tagalized??? ???
Buti na lang for most of us here, we've seen the two seasons na , untampered. (Sana mag-flop ala-Alias, maybe then they'll stop doing this.)

It's funny but it's also sad that either
a) ABS CBN execs perceive the majority of the Filipino people to be illiterate in English (our supposed second language)
or
b) that they're right. :(

Unfortunately, they are right. Tagalized shows rate more because, as one survey respondent said, "hindi mahirap pakinggan, madali kang makakasunod sa istorya."

While most countries are globalizing we're secularizing (insert sarcastic anti-government, anti-Establishment remark here).

So, what made them switch Alias (the un-tagalized Alias ;D) on 23 instead? Did it or did it not rate well when it was Tagalized on Channel 2?  If they wanted a Tagalog-Action TV Series, why don't they just write one, create one, instead of Tagalizing US TV shows? Sana those scriptwriting workshops they sponsor pay-off naman.

If that's the case (and I have a feeling it is for the most part), indie, then we're really in trouble.

Altho if you think about it, in other Asian countries like Hong Kong and/or Thailand and/or even Japan, they don't kowtow to English. American stuff is usually dubbed or subtitled. But then English isn't their second language either.

Maybe it's the whole social architecture that has made us afraid of anything spoken in English, given it subconscious connotations- - -of elitism, of economic hierarchy,et.al. Reverse elitism , if you will. I mean, what's so hard to follow about Alias, for example, that isn't as equally hard to follow in our local convoluted telenovelas?

On the other hand, did switching Alias to 23 and de-Tagalizing it mean that the so-called mass audience just wasn't equipped to appreciate it? That it was not just the language? God forbid. But if that's the case, then maybe someone should write a decent local action series na lang. Of course, if the height of TV writing here is exemplified by Idol Ko Si Kap then we really are in deep crape.  ;D

THEN ? Correct me if I am wrong but entertainment in the Philippines has been in deep %#@% the last decade or so ...

Unable to make artistic, creative and new programming that will cater to their market, the TV stations just threw the towel and decided to Tagalize these shows (telenovelas from Mexico, Meteor Garden, Alias, 24), insulting the viewer's intelligence and exposing their lack of it. It's a shame. If they really like these shows, can 't they at least use them as inspiration and adapt them to fit the Filipino culture ?

On a brighter note, the failure of Joe Millionaire 2 : A Foreign Affair gives 24 a big boost by showing two episodes tonight ... at 8:00, the pilot rerun .. and at 9:00, the 2:00-3:00 PM episode .. which from the reviews I read is not to be missed.  ;D

Hypothetical semantics, if there's such a thing.

Tho, in fairness(and I say this begrudgingly),  I don't really find reality shows like Survivor and Temptation Island (haven't seen/don't know anything about  Joe Millionaire tho) any less insulting to my intelligence than the worst local show. It's as much gossip pop culture as Kris Aquino, in many ways, only with an American accent and tighter editing

If they wanted a Tagalog-Action TV Series, why don't they just write one, create one, instead of Tagalizing US TV shows?

The problem there would be budgetary. It's so much cheaper (and safer, ratings-wise) to make dramas.

Still, that doesn't make Tagalizing English shows any less offensive, particularly when we claim to have English as one of our "official" languages.

And the weird thing is, if you try watching these local soaps/movies/teenage dreck , nagkakandarapa mag-Ingles ang mga bida , spouting whole lines of English as if they were cast memebers of Beverly Hills 90210.  I mean, do they think (or doi their audiences think) English is more understandable coming from the mouths of their local "idols"?

Hehe! Oo nga no. ;D

Totoo. But then if they spend so much time rin on promoting an original, tagalog-action TV series (that is if they do find the right material and script), like they spend so much time in promoting these telenovelas and F4 stuff, more people will watch (some out of curiousity, others because nabugbog na sa promo, di panoorin na lang ;D) eh di babalik rin yung ginastos nila thru advertisements. If they create enough media hype, with the right script and the right story, the audience will bite. Score for the network, money comes in. Everybody happy. (?)

Like I posted earlier, they sponsor this script-writing workshop. About a thousand signed up. Sana man lang kahit dalawa dun can make a good story ala 24 and Alias and the network picks it up and sells it to Pinoy viewers as  an original Tagalog action series.

Ano kayang magandang angle na parang 24 or agent-agent pero Philippine setting? NPA na Gov't employee? Abu Sayaff pero Military asset? Hehehe.

The first season of 24 would be great for Philippine setting.

An assasination attempt to a Presidential candidate ... masterminded by the son of a  jueteng operator / drug dealer / gun smuggler .... that got busted by an NBI agent.  The mole in the NBI ? An ex-girlfriend of the NBI agent, currently the girlfriend of the villain. The NBI agent and Presidential candidate connection ? The Pres candidate signed the warrant when he was still a judge.

How's that for Dalawampu't Apat ?

Wow! Hehe! ;D See, our scene is so rich in that kind of story! Kasi naman kung tatagalugin na rin lang, make the characters Pinoy and not some blonde talking in Tagalog.  ;D

Anyway....would this really click? Alias didn't. (I'm guessing since they moved it from masa Channel 2 to medyo upscale na Studio 23.) It is harder to follow the story of 24 compared to Alias....maybe that's why they decided to air it daily?

Edited to add (just read this post):

I'm sorry but I really, really have to say this -- i've developed a big crush for jack bauer. mahal ko na talaga sya. I haven't seen a TV character that's as heroic as he is in a long time.  :)

Baka mawala na crush ni Akane kay Jack Bauer niyan pag nagtagalog na siya. ;D A big part of his appeal is his voice.

By the way, I actually like Kim's new hair style. It's kinda funky ...

Yes. In the pilot episode,  one co-worker was giving her a hard time and showing no respect because of the common consensus that she got her job because of his dad's influence. So she did something to prove him wrong ... and order was restored. She saved the day hahaha.

It's about time actually. It's been three years and we all hope she's grown and matured ..  be a little responsible.  But one thing we should all remember, she invites trouble ... and even confined in the secured walls of CTU, bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow (theme from Annie LOL) ... or in a couple of hours .... trouble will come to her.

I didn't add any spoiler since I didn't really give any plotlines.  ;)

What do you mean ? The first two weren't up to your standards?

The sneak for next week seems high voltage tension and suspense. However, it is only the third hour. Don't you think it is too soon for them to find "Neo" (the one LOL) ?

I didn't think there could be another person more evil than Sherry Palmer ... but boy, I was wrong !

Again, no spoiler. I didn't spill anything ...  ;D ;D

seeing as how people in this series can recover from a coma or intensive torture in just a span of 2-3 hours, i believe we'll still be seeing more of that character in the future episodes of this season...   :)

Hehehe. I am not keeping my fingers crossed. It looked pretty bad.  He is an important character. I wonder if the better half will have a bigger participation if he's out the rest of the season especially the danger lurking around in the area.  It will probably also help Chase to do something more.
