Studio 23 and its frequency was part of AMCARA Broadcast Network owned by Cady Carandang, one of the pioneer engineers of ABS CBN. ABS CBN bought into the said company obtaining management control.

Oh right, sorry my mistake I confused the two from each other.

Think of it like you built a 'house' (SkyCable) with 50+ rooms (channels)

Then you invite 'guests' (HBO, CNN, ESPN, etc) to stay in the rooms. You pay these popular guests so that they stay in your house and increase its value. There are other 'guests' (WINS, Arirang, Russian) that they pay the 'owner' rent just to have a 'room' of their own in the house.

Then the government says you are required to provide room to mandatory guests (TV Broadcasters, GMA included). Government says that they should occupy the room that has the same number as the guests to retain their identity if it is possible (see NTC Memo Circular linked in the GMA Hits Sky Thread).

You explained to the government that it is not possible since the room will be a mess hence they are given another room.

For ten years the broadcast guests stayed in their 'rooms' for free nor did they ask payment from the house owner.

Then one of the mandatory guests (ABS) 'requested' that they be transfered to another room for one reason or another. The owner acceded but told the other mandatory guests to do the rigodon of changing rooms to maintain their proper queue.

Another mandatory guest (GMA) complained that their new room is not to their liking. So they made sumbong to the government. Instead of politely asking the owner of the house that they be returned to their own room, nag-sampa ng demanda!

If you are the owners of the house, pinatuloy mo na yung mga mandatory guests dahil napipilitan lang, namimili pa ng sariling quarto!

Yun na nga eh. Had GMA politely asked Sky to be returned to their original channel, (pakiusap ba!) instead of going to the NTC demanding a total channel reallocation (which is technically impossible) wala sana problema. Now, Gabby Lopez have already stated their group will not take any adverse orders from NTC sitting down and are willing to take the case up to the Supreme Court (as though the SC has no backlog of cases!)

Kung ikaw ay nakikituloy sa isang bahay, di bat  tamang asal lang ang humiling na mailagay sa magandang kuwarto?

I believe though the discussion is taking a different route away from the title of the topic don't you think?

:)I do not think so ,It is quite informative although the topic here is about ABS-CBN and GMA . Ang pinalalabas kasi noong isang t.v. station na iyan ay may sabotage parati sa kanila yung isang network keso from power interruptions, signal disruption and so on and so forth. Kaya ganon lang ang awayan noong dalawang istasyon ng t.v. na ito.If I am right during the 1994 Miss Universe pageant coverage nagsimula ang mahigpit na awayan noong dalawang t.v.station na ito!Minsan over the belt na ang mga parinig noong isa like yung defunct t.v. show nila Janno Gibbs, Leo Martinez ,Anjo Yllana na may inihagis na manok at sinusulat pa ni Janno Gibbs kung ilan beses dumapo ang manok na ito? Remember the show?At yung station ID nila na tinapakan ang manok kasi gusto nito maging malaki at naging GMA ito .  I am Sick and tired of these awayan pati ba naman mga employees nang dalawang t.v. stations na ito may mga awayan din na nangyayari.

ABS-CBN suspends
noontime show hosts
Posted: 9:25 PM (Manila Time) | Jun. 12, 2003
INQ7.net

ABS-CBN decided to suspend hosts John Estrada and Willie Revillame for one week over on-air "inappropriate language or conduct" in the noontime program "Masayang Tanghali, Bayan."

The suspension will take effect from June 16 to 21.

In a statement sent to INQ7.net, the network said the hosts committed prohibited acts under their respective talent contract agreements "despite constant and repeated warnings to be conscious of the sensibilities of the viewers."

Because of this, ABS-CBN "found sufficient cause to exercise its remedies under its own agreements with...the hosts (Estrada and Revillame)."

The network was reportedly flooded with complaints regarding certain on-air antics of the mentioned hosts that offended viewers.

The ABS-CBN move, the statement said, was in line with its "commitment of self-regulation and policing the television industry."

Expect side comments by the Eat Bulaga hosts  on the suspension of their rivals!  :(

Also, I saw banners on EDSA proclaiming GMA at 53! Did they celebrate their 50th year? This is surely their response to the 50 years of Philippine TV ads of ABS (as if mas nauna sila!)

To set the record straight, ABS CBN celebrates 50 years of Philippine Television being the pioneer station that introduced television here. Bolinao Electronics, the original company that was eventually renamed Alto Broadcasting System (ABS) introduced the first black and white television transmission here. Eventually ABS was merged with Chronicle Broadcasting Network (CBN)of the Lopezes thus becoming the largest network then.

What GMA is celebrating could be their 53rd year of existense starting with Radio. Compare that to the 57 years of ABSCBN starting with radio.

To be strict about it though, ABS CBN as a company was silent for 14 years when its properties and frequencies were appropriated by the Marcos cronies for their own free use during the martial law and marcos years.

GMA on the other hand managed to be in business as they made sipsip to the powers that be (and the cronies were not interested on their facilities as it is the most antiquated of all the networks then. In fact, Republic Broadcasting System (GMA) was the last network to shift to color!)

The war of the network continues.  It is now heating up once again now on a new front, the war for Chinovelas supremacy.

Meteor Garden started the trend it became phenomenal barely a month on its premiere.  GMA as usual fallowed the lead and got its own chinovela but will it fly, will it click (I doubt that it would)?

I saw in GMA's newscast that their new Chinovela will include one of F4's member and also claimed that "kapuso" na nila ang F4.  Funny, GMA is acting like a second fiddle once again they even claimed that the rest of the F4 will be in that new chinovela making it sound that they will be a regular, but someone told me the other 3 members will just be making a guest appearance.

I think this new front on the ongoing war of the network will fizzle out at once because the phenomena that is called chinovela is cause by this boyband F4 and without them chinovela has nothing special going for them to sustain the viewers interest.  So sorry na lang ang GMA.

:) ABS-CBN is the oldest television network period!. GMA FM radio station keep on bashing the F4 they call them pineapple hair etc... in one of their anime programs. Look who's riding the F4 popularity! In most message boards ABS-CBN vs GMa channel 7 is aways the topic . Now 5566 vs F4  . My GMA insider told me that 5566 had  some following too during its 5:00-5:30 pm but it is not that big compared to F4. Poor dubbing?

I may have mentioned these in other threads but I understand ABS spent for a dubbing machine that can practically synchronize the length of the spiel with the movement of the lips being synched. That's why in the ABS telenovelas (spanish-mexican series), the spiels are spoken very fast para sabay sa buka ng bibig. The same is done for the chinovela (chinese/korean/jap)

For the ABS teleseryes (Pinoy series) problema na ng malaysia and kenya to dub it in their local tongue to understand the series. Sa GMA, kaya ba nila yun? (to export locally produced series)  ;)

:( Guess what, They had another "Chinovela" upcoming. "Lavander" . I hope that they dubbed it right. Look at GMA teleseries it is not that interesting to me. They just drag the story too long like the show of Dingdong Dante and Tanya Garcia, it was supposed to be finished .

I think GMA's chinovelas and telenovelas' dubbing actually capture the culture they are from. I notice that most telenovelas on GMA are dubbed in Filipino but with distinct Spanish accent unlike the telenovelas in ABS-CBN. I caught some episodesof My MVP Valentine and I think they did what they did with telenovelas, they dubbed this chinovela in Filipino but with a somewhat subtle Chinese accent.

As for the extension of Sana Ikaw Na Nga, It was supposed to end when it should have ended however they extended it due to the unavaialbility of Lorna Tolentino to start on her new soap with GMA since she's stuck with ABS-CBN's Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay.

I personally saw the telenovela of ABS-CBN in malaysia no dubbing was done, they only put a caption.  They are so into pinoy teleserye there.

Now this is silly. Both ABS and GMA are claiming that they had the last interview of Senator Cayetano. Not only is it insignificant who had the last interview, it also comes across as a bit crass.

But come to think of it, both maybe true. Each have their respective network's last interview with the senator.  ;)

Not following time schedules is actually illegal. I don't know why the government is not giving them a warning about it.

Not following time schedules are not really illegal. However, commercial overloading that more often than not results to overtime shows is frowned upon by the KBP hence sanctions are imposed on the erring station after due process.

Really? I can't remember where I read it but i think it is a stipulated regulation for TV stations to follow their time schedules. From what I've read, it's illegal because you're basically keeping your audience captive. I think I read it in one of the sunday magazines -- I'll have to double check though.

Let me re-state my response. When I said not illegal is in the context of having no law that makes 'tardiness' a punishable crime for TV stations. However, the KBP has strict rules regarding keeping times hence you may also consider it 'illegal' or should I say, improper. At the end of the day, the viewers must make themselves heard that they will not tolerate non-conformance to time skeds! (especially for the sake of airing overloaded advertisements.  :)

It's not just commercials though, it's a devious way of "hamletting" televiewers, for lack of a better word.

I forgot the industry that is used for this dirty tactic but what happens is, if a station's show does not follow its schedule, the viewers who watch the show will not want to change channels anymore because they've already missed 10 or 15 minutes of the other channel's show.

For example, may telenovela kang pinapanood sa Dos from 7 - 7:30. Paano mo pa masusundan yung 7:30 - 8 na telenovela sa GMA kung matatapos yung 7- 7:30 show ng Dos ng 7:45? You've already missed 15 minutes of a 30-minute show. What happens is, you'll just resign yourself to watching the next show in Dos.

It's a method that has been discussed extensively by one of the sunday magazines years ago when, sorry to say this, Channel 2 started using this tactic.
