Expect side comments by the Eat Bulaga hosts on the suspension of their rivals!
Also, I saw banners on EDSA proclaiming GMA at 53! Did they celebrate their 50th year? This is surely their response to the 50 years of Philippine TV ads of ABS (as if mas nauna sila!)
To set the record straight, ABS CBN celebrates 50 years of
Philippine Television being the pioneer station that introduced television here. Bolinao Electronics, the original company that was eventually renamed Alto Broadcasting System (ABS) introduced the first black and white television transmission here. Eventually ABS was merged with Chronicle Broadcasting Network (CBN)of the Lopezes thus becoming the largest network then.
What GMA is celebrating could be their 53rd year of existense starting with Radio. Compare that to the 57 years of ABSCBN starting with radio.
To be strict about it though, ABS CBN as a company was silent for 14 years when its properties and frequencies were appropriated by the Marcos cronies for their own free use during the martial law and marcos years.
GMA on the other hand managed to be in business as they made sipsip to the powers that be (and the cronies were not interested on their facilities as it is the most antiquated of all the networks then. In fact, Republic Broadcasting System (GMA) was the last network to shift to color!)
