The first season was way too short, but still, the finale was a good way to end the season.  Some nice bits of continuity--so that's how Rick's hospital room door was barricaded, and the grenade that Rick got in episode 2 was finally put to good use.

It's obvious now that when the series went into production, Darabont and AMC wanted some sense of finality just in case the series didn't catch on.

But the series did catch on...and now October 2011 is gonna be a long, long, long wait...  ;D

With the last two episodes I've seen, Walking Dead is starting to mildly suck and resume it's downward spiral after the promise of Episode 2. And here i was thinking that Frank Darabont would buck the old cliche but sadly it's looking like the book is better.

From Twitch Film:

THE WALKING DEAD Producer Denies Mass Firing
December 5, 2010 11:37 AM

Last week Deadline reported that Frank Darabont had fired the entire writing staff of hit show The Walking Dead and planned to forgo a writing staff entirely for season two, hiring on freelancers when outside help was needed. Not so, says series producer Gale Anne Hurd in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

According to Hurd head writer Charles Eglee is departing of his own accord to pursue his own projects. And she also says that various other writers have projects that they are pitching which will take priority should they be picked up for pilot or series. But that's all standard behavior in the television world. Who wouldn't want to have their own show on the air rather than being a hired gun on someone else's? The idea that Darabont has fired the lot she flat out denies.

Deadline is normally pretty reliable but this also wouldn't be the first time that someone had planted a story there to try and make someone look bad. So judge for yourself. Did Deadline have it right, in which case Hurd is performing a spin job now? Or was the whole thing a widely spread mistake?

DL Subtitle Edit tapos open mo yung SRT file then convert mo from UNICODE to UTF, then save again.  Solb.

Tsip Anya.  Here it is.  Once installed, sa tick box ng ENCODING, just make it UTF-8 then save.   Yung ayaw ma-recognize na SRT, malamang UNICODE or anything other than UTF.

Darabont on Walking Dead, Writers Rumors
Source: Deadline
June 23, 2011

In anticipation of the forthcoming Emmy nominations and The Walking Dead season 2, Deadline spoke to Frank Darabont about his hit AMC series.

Darabont used the interview to clarify rumors that he canned all of his season one writers. "Let me just begin by stating the obvious: that it was all pretty overblown. It left the impression that I walked in one day and murdered 12 people. Would you like to know how many writers we were talking about? Two. My thought had been that they’d under-delivered, and a change was necessary. I had to do too much of it by myself last year, and that was only six episodes. This season, it’s 13 and we’ve hired a fantastic writing staff. We hired Glen Mazzara as our Number Two in the room. We consider him our head writer and he’s just a fantastic asset. We’ve also got three other staff writers in Scott Gimple, Evan Reilly from RESCUE ME, and Angela Kang. Plus Executive Producer Robert Kirkman, who wrote the original comic book, is also writing for us."

He also offered a taste of the mounting drama we'll see in the forthcoming season.

"It’s fair to say that the first six episodes were teeing up a lot of conflicts that will be more fully explored in our second season. We find a growing conflict with our two main guys, Rick [Andrew Lincoln] and Shane [Jon Bernthal]. We’re really excited about putting all of the characters on a chessboard and seeing how wonderfully and effectively we can toss conflict into the game."

From SuperHeroHype:

FRANK DARABONT LEAVES THE WALKING DEAD
July 26, 2011

Though "The Walking Dead" will be returning to AMC on October 16th for a second season, Deadline reports that Frank Darabont will be stepping down as the series showrunner.

Darabont, who made the transition from films like The Shawshank Redemption and The Mist to the small screen with the ongoing adaptation of the Robert Kirkman zombie comic, is said to potentially be staying aboard the series in some capacity, though an official announcement has yet to be made. There is also no official reason yet for his departure from the show, though it is highly likely that a return to the big screen may be in Darabont's future.

The second season of "The Walking Dead" is currently in production and will feature a cast that includes Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Norman Reedus, Laurie Holden, Jeffrey DeMunn, Steven Yeun, Chandler Riggs, Melissa McBride, Michael Rooker and Pruitt Taylor Vince.

Walking Dead's New Showrunner is...
Source: Deadline
July 28, 2011

This should really come as no surprise, but Glen Mazzara is taking on showrunner duties for The Walking Dead season two after Frank Darabont stepped away this week.

When there was talk of a disruption in the writing bullpen of the show, Darabont assuaged any fears by revealing in June, "We hired Glen Mazzara as our Number Two in the room. We consider him our head writer and he’s just a fantastic asset."

Mazzara is best known for his work on The Shield.

Wowza, Darabont Fired from Walking Dead?
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
August 10, 2011

Everyone was a bit taken aback when news broke Frank Darabont departed The Walking Dead.

Some speculated he had a feature film coming up and he need to make time for that, but THR did some digging. According to the trade paper, Darabont was fired. The cast and crew were separately informed and, says THR, they're afraid to speak about the situation because AMC is being rather aggressive about keeping the firing under wraps.

THR says Darabont was fired after trying to salvage an episode in which the footage - from another director - was deemed unusable. More from THR's article: "What remains a central mystery, even to those closely involved, is what triggered AMC's move to fire Darabont. As noted, AMC's decision to cut the budget dated to the previous fall, when the network instructed Darabont to produce 13 episodes for a second season, up from six for the first season, for less money. Not only would the show get a lower budget, but AMC also decided that Walking Dead would no longer reap the benefit of a 30 percent tax credit per episode that came with filming in Georgia. Now the network was going to hold on to that money."

Is the show facing a financial crisis? Did AMC bite off more than it could chew? It's an interesting read, folks.

Kinda disappointing that they fired Frank Darabont. Even though I read the comic book series, a lot of what the Walking Dead (the TV version) is reminiscent of Darabont's the Mist movie. Also, as AMC had conflicts with the producer of "Mad Men", I think there's something wrong with the way they treat their talent.

Cast photo promo for Season 2:

Reviewers who viewed advanced screenings state that the 90-minute Season 2 premiere is the goriest in the show's history so far.  ;D

AMC will also be airing a 6-part web series that feature Hannah, who eventually turns into the infamous "Bicycle Girl" zombie seen in The Walking Dead pilot. The webisodes will follow Hannah leading up to her death, un-death, and finally the iconic meeting with Rick. The Walking Dead webisodes will be shown on AMC’s website starting Monday, October 3.
