Dual Monitor HTPC and 1080p question
« on: Nov 16, 2009 at 11:16 AM »
Hi guys!

I have a dual monitor htpc setup. My panny 32" is connected to the VGA out (onboard) of my pc.
The other monitor, AOC, is connected to NVIDIA card with DVI out.

My problem is that I can play 1080p videos in my AOC monitor but when I dragged the player (I use MPC) to the second monitor (my Panny 32"), the video won't show up. The sound is still fine though. Made no difference kung fullscreen or window mode sya. I have no problem doing this on 720p videos.

Any thoughts on this?

Try exchanging the connection and see if your Panny on the nvidia can play your 1080p files.

Since your problem doesn't crop up with 720p files on both displays, check to confirm your Panny's native resoution is 1080p.  I've had problems before displaying 1080p and 720p video files on monitors with lesser resolution.

I have dual monitor setup too on my HTPC.  1360x768 60Hz 720p/1080i LCD TV via VGA (secondary) and a 1920x1200 LCD Monitor via DVI (primary), but I only have 720p videos and use a dual DVI ATI card.

Some ideas:

1.  Update your Nvidia drivers.
2.  Try another codec (uninstall -all- old/previous codecs, and do a reinstall).  I use only klite codec with media player classic
3.  Keep both monitors at a common frequency  ie.  60Hz.  Re-check your video settings on both.

I find it interesting that you are connecting to the onboard graphics and a dedicated VGA simultaneously.  Your dedicated VGA card has only 1 output port?

Salamat po sa mga inputs. Will try later mamaya pag uwi.

I've read kasi somewhere na hindi daw nakakahandle ng 1080p ang vga cable. Eh sa vga (d-sub) pa naman naka connect si Panny. Anyway, I'll try your suggestions and will post the result/s here.

 :)

Bat po kaya ganun? My AOC monitor's native res is just 1440 x 900 pero na didisplay naman po nya yung video without problems. Am not sure about my Panny's res thought. Pero alam ko hindi sya full HD. As far as I understand it, kapag Full HD yung TV then 1080 ung resolution nya. Tama po ba yun?

The dedicated card has a DVI out po. Yung onboard is D-Sub.
