Hi!

Is it advisable to get a player which has wifi versus a regular blu ray player? Considering that we can't access netflix and other streaming US sites, what's the advantage of getting a wifi-enabled player?

doing that right now. para dun sa mga rare, hard to find and out of print movies. already got tron (1982), pulp fiction and malena (uncut).

future proofing i guess. kasi in th near future malamang ang mga hd movies streaming na and maging maayos na rin ang broadband internet services sa pinas. plus, with wi fi it's easier to update the player's firmware

went to sm, ever (abenson and western), trinoma (abenson, anson's, automatic, gadgets in style), lahat wala kahit order basis. will try glorietta next weekend.
kapag wala pa rin, will try a cheap media player muna (nbox n82) and will just upgrade to a real bd player next year.

At G4 they have a higher model LG Blu-Ray on display, I forgot the model number but it costs P 13,999. You have to speak to the LG representative I can't remember his name but just ask who's in charge of LG.

ship freight is your best option. ndi naman nila bubuksan yun. but be sure na secured mo siyang mai-box, baka magka-damage. nice price for the movies, how much you will sell them? curious lang.  ;D

I checked the BD movies they are not real. It's BD ripped into DVD9 with 720p res.. >:(
The real BD cost around P500-1000+ depend on the title...

Will check the quality of the BD's but have to decide 1st whether to buy a dedicated BD player, a ps3 or NMT with BD drive... I am thinking kasi maybe next year biglang magbabaan prices ng mga BD player.. ;)

I just picked up my LG BD-550 (after being delayed) a while ago from Anson's Glorietta. Surprisingly it's still not available to the public, it's only by order basis. I was surprised to see printed on the box that it supports MKV files and external hard drive (contrary to what the LG rep first told me). It loads Blu-Ray movies quite fast when we tested it at Abensons.

How much was it? Have you tested the USB port if it can play mkv and supports NTFS?

It was 7.995. I'm still at the office so I haven't installed it yet. I'm sure it will support it it's in big bold letters on the front of the box "MKV".

Got this from another thread:

LG BD-560 bluray/mkv/dvd player w/ internet capability and supports NTFS.

http://www.lg.com/sg/tv-audio-video/video/LG-blu-ray-player-BD560.jsp

No issue so far except sometimes cant detect external HD > 1tb.

I tested BD560, with an MKV file earlier at Robinson's Pioneer and it worked fine. Price tag there is 14,990 (with free 500GB external hard drive).

The concern is with BD550 as the user's manual doesn't have any reference to MKV.

http://www.lg-bd550.com/assets/content/LGEBD550_manual.pdf

On the contrary, BD560's manual specifically stated *.MKV as one of the file types supported.

Sir Conan's BD550 has "MKV" printed on the front so his actual testing clears the confusion.

I tested my 1TB hard drive with MKV file on my LG BD-550, works like a charm! I still think though that an NMT would still be better especially if your library is big. Oh and by the way PQ is stunning!

Maraming salamat bro. You've just made me think again about my plans which is good. ;D

@larokulit,
Walang display unit yung mga 550/560 dito sa bandang north area. Libot nga ulit ako bukas pag may time. :)

By the way the video upscaling of this LG BD-550 is very good! The picture quality of my DVD's are now better than using the video upscaler of my Onkyo 608 with my previous DVD player.
