Topic: Athlon Phenom II x2 550 and Emaxx AMD 785G and 1080p mkv HTPC?

Athlon Phenom II x2 550 for 2,700 pesos and the Emaxx AMD 785G with HD4200 video on board at 3,700 pesos
Is this a cheap combination for an HTPC...i need to build one that is cheap and can play 1080p mkv.
this system willl be connected to my LCD tv which has an Egreat connected to it.
this setup will be used for internet sufing, playing pc games and playing 1080p movie that my NMT cant play.
My existing quadcore pc setup is overwhelmed by my son and wife playing cafeWorld on facebook, since all our old computers broke.

you need to confirm what cpu you're eyeing ... there's no Athlon Phenom II cpu ...it's either an Athlon II or a Phenom II

Athlon II's are the entry or mainstream level cpu's of AMD, these replaced the previous Semprons and Athlons ... Athlon II x2s are selling for about the same price you mention 2k+~3k+

Phenom II are the high-end cpu's of AMD ... these replaced the previous Phenom processors ...Phenom II x2 is roughly 5k in price

if you are planning to use the system for mainly HTPC purpose, the Athlon II cpu's would suffice
